    Increase in road accidents during Eid holidays

    There has been an increase in the number of road accidents with 43 lives lost in Punjab during Eid holidays.

    Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of the Emergency Services Department in Punjab has thus called upon all stakeholders, including parents, educators, and civil society members, to raise awareness among their loved ones about reducing motorcycle speed and staying in the left-most lane to prevent such accidents and the loss of lives.

    He commended the rescuers who worked through their Eid holidays to efficiently provide emergency services to the people of Punjab, noting their exceptional commitment and dedication to duty during the festive period as well as the pivotal role played by these rescuers in saving lives and offering timely assistance to those in need.

    During a virtual meeting with all Divisional and District Emergency Officers, Dr. Rizwan stressed the importance of change in behaviour to encourage safety and prevent emergencies. He also emphasised the need for collaboration between public and rescue services to save lives and enhance safety standards.

    Motorway Police to issue daily journey planner for travellers’ convenience

    The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has announced a new initiative to facilitate travellers by issuing daily journey planners that would help drivers navigate the highway more efficiently.

    The spokesperson of NHMP said that the project of journey planners has been initiated at the direction of Inspector General NHMP, Khalid Mahmood.

    He stated that in addition to any planned construction or maintenance that may affect travel times, the planners would also take into account information such as traffic updates, road closures, weather updates, and accident reports.

    By informing drivers of any potential risks or delays, the Motorway Police hope that this new service will assist in shortening travel times and increasing safety on the highways, the official said, adding that the planners would be accessible online through the website and social media channels. The trip planner has received a great deal of appreciation, and the NHMP is dedicated to giving its consumers helpful information. It also continues to receive excellent feedback.

    Travelers reported that the trip planners have shortened their travel distances and increased road safety. Adnan Jameel, a motorist on the M-1 motorway, told APP that the planner had made it easier for him to organise his trip and prevent any unwelcome shocks along the route.

    Hyderabad will finally get Rescue 1122 service by 2023

    Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad Fuad Ghaffar Soomro, who also serves as acting Director-General of the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA), revealed that Hyderabad would launch its 1122 emergency service by the following year.

    Additionally, Garbage disposal in the city will also become operational by the next month due to the recent contract that has been inked.

    He was addressing the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) members in this location on Tuesday night. The Site area filtration facility, he claimed, had been rendered operational and would shortly be turned over to the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa).

    According to him, Hyderabad’s water quality is superior to Karachi’s. He also noted that the city’s power outages had grown since the introduction of 1000 MW of energy. He claimed the water supply and drainage industries were being impacted.

    He committed to resolving the problems with marriage gardens and reception halls. Underpasses, he added, were also necessary for the metropolis. For the renovation and adornment of roundabouts and greenbelts, he requested the assistance of the business community.

    In his welcome speech, HCCI President Adeel Siddiqui noted that rising gas costs, electricity and gas prices, as well as unannounced power outages, were all contributing to a decline in production at small and medium-sized businesses.

    Man disappears after company pays 286 times his salary accidentally

    A company in Chile accidentally paid one of its employees 286 times his salary in May, after which the employee resigned from the company and disappeared.

    The man worked at Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos (Cial), one of the largest producers of cold cuts in Chile. The company paid nearly Rs37 million to the man although his salary was Rs111,760.

    Soon after the incident, the company realised its mistake. The management reached out to the employee who at the time agreed to get the money refunded.

    However, when the company did not get the amount back, they tried to contact the employee again but their messages were not answered.

    Later, the man got in touch with the management and promised that he would visit the bank.

    However, on June 2, he handed over his resignation and disappeared without any trace.

    Subsequently, the company was forced to take legal action against the man to recover their money.

    Two men died on spot after being hit by a train in India. The deceased were standing on the railway track.

    According to India Today, Mithun Khan, 36, and Abdul Gain, 32, were taking selfies when the unfortunate incident took place in the West Medinipur district of West Bengal on Sunday.

    A third person, who was also present with the two, sustained crucial injuries and is currently hospitalised.

    The three men had gone for a picnic on the banks of the Kangsavati River. The railway bridge was situated near the spot where they went to take selfies. Eyewitnesses told the police that a train was running on the track at full speed.

    Railway Senior Section Engineer Biswajit Bala said, “Everyone is forbidden to climb on this part of the railway line. Despite the ban, many people are taking selfies lying on the train tracks. However, they did not move and ran along the line. So this accident happened.”
