    Anzela Abbasi is quitting acting

Anzela Abbasi is from one of the most talented families in entertainment. Her dad Shamoon Abbasi and mom Javeria Abbasi are big stars, and her aunt Anoushay Abbasi is also a famous actress. She herself tried acting, doing a few projects, but later she decided to focus more on modeling.

Anzela hasn’t acted for a while, and people haven’t seen her on TV lately. But now, she’s getting ready to begin a music career. In an interview, she said she’s always dreamed of doing music, and now she’s finally following that dream. She explained why she left dramas and acting.

Anzela explained that she’s not trying to change anything, it’s just that people don’t know her well. Being different doesn’t mean she’s bad, she said, acknowledging that her uniqueness can be hard for some to understand, but she’s okay with it.

“Acting runs in the family, and I pursued it once I became an adult. While it was nice, it didn’t fully satisfy my artistic side. Pakistani dramas, for those who have watched them, often revolve around typical household issues and portray women in a derogatory manner. It didn’t resonate with the person I am. People started seeing me as just another actress from dramas, but in reality, I’m not. I’m a simple, soft-spoken person, and because I don’t do anything extravagant, I was labeled as plain and simple. I’m not like that. People who watch my dramas are surprised to see me speaking English on my Instagram because they have a different perception of me.”

‘Even as a cricketer, you’re an actor’: Wasim Akram talks to The Current about why he chose to act in ‘Money Back Guarantee’

In an exclusive interview with The Current, cricket great and commentator Wasim Akram along with his wife, philanthropist Shaniera Akram, discussed their upcoming film ‘Money Back Guarantee’.

The film plays host to a star-studded cast with the names of actors like Fawad Khan, Ali Safina, Ayesha Omar and Mikaal Zulfiqaar on the marquee.

When asked about why he chose to venture into acting after 25 years in cricket and commentary, Akram opened up about his decision:

“I have been acting for 25 years not just for television commercial or brands. And before that, even during the time I was a cricketer”, the 56-year-old former captain of the Pakistan team said. “When you’re on the field you have to be mindful about where you have to be angry, where you want to be excited, where you have to have a go at one of your fielders when they have dropped a catch.”

Akram revealed that he had always enjoyed watching movies and television shows, and was grateful for the opportunity writer and director Faisal Quraishi gave him by casting him in ‘Money Back Guarantee’.

“I enjoy watching movies…especially on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Stand TV in Australia. I watch very different movies too, so credit goes to Faisal who convinced me to give it a go,” the former pacer told us.

Akram also shared that this was not something he was making a career out of at this stage, but thought, “Why not, let’s give it a go?”

The complete interview with Wasim Akram and Shaniera Akram will be released on The Current’s YouTube channel on the first day of Eid.

  • Ayesha Omar shares advice for women who wish to enter the industry

Actor and singer Ayesha Omar was a guest on UrduFlix’s “The Shoaib Akhtar Show” where she offered advice to young women who wanted to form a career in the entertainment industry.

Omar stressed that the most essential tip for women to remember is that if they’ve shifted to a new city, it is safer to live in an apartment building rather than a house:
“I was just giving this advice to a girl who had shifted to Karachi and was an actor. She was terrified because someone had smashed the windows of her car outside her house. I told her it’s essential that if she’s living alone, she lives in an apartment rather than a house. This is for all women who are divorced, or moving out of their parents homes and want to live independently, it’s the safest thing for them to live in apartment buildings. Given the realities of this country, we have to adjust to it. You can’t change them. You have to be careful, you can’t fight everything.”

The second tip Omar revealed was to learn to be independent, and stop relying on other people to complete your tasks:

“Take care of your health and your expenses on your own. You cannot expect that you’ll find help out there. It’s your body and your life so take care of it. I take care of my own food, clothes and makeup wherever I go, and there is a lot of joy in doing so. You’re less stressed out as well… I’ve learned that if there are 20 people whom you keep requesting to do your work, those 20 people won’t do it. So you must conserve your energy and do things on your own.”

Sanam Jung was also a guest along side Omar, and she also told aspiring actors to remember not to reveal your personal struggles to people in the industry.

“Never share your home issues or financial problems with anyone in the industry, because they take advantage and they will take you for granted. They will know how desperate you are for work, so they’ll call you at inappropriate hours,” she said.

Twitter still can’t forget Fawad Khan’s performance in Kapoor and Sons

There are few performances on screen that remain etched in our minds even decades later, because of how well the actor was able to make the audience feel for the plight of his character.
Fawad Khan has had limited roles in the entertainment industry, but with the few characters he has portrayed on screen like Maula Jatt from The Legend of Maula Jatt, Ashar from Humsafar, or even Rahul from Kapoor and Sons, his dedication and talent has always shined through.
When this twitter user asked his followers to decide which performance by an actor is among the best, Fawad Khan was one of the few desi actors to be trending on the list. Users cited his performance in Kapoor and Sons to be one of the best one’s they’ve ever seen.

One user explained how well this single conversation captured the dynamics of a toxic family so well
“The way this movie captures the dynamics of a dysfunctional family, relationships, impact of past events on the present and the different ways in which people cope with loss and grief. And this scene specifically hits home with an argument escalating so quickly.”

Another user cited this as their favorite scene because of how it demonstrated the way parents can bring up your past in any argument.
“The way desi families can be so brutal bringing up your past at any given point and the way Kapoor & Sons displays it exactly how it is.”

The film is about a dysfunctional family where after the grandfather Amarjeet Kapoor (played by Rishi Kapoor) is admitted to hospital, his grandsons, the famous writer Rahul (played by Fawad Khan) and bartender Arjun (played by Sidharth Malhotra) decide to come back home to spend time with their parents. When the family is back home, old wounds and the appearance of a new girl threaten to rip the family apart. After Fawad Khan, the most popular male performer who was getting accolades on Twitter was Shah Rukh Khan for his performance in both “My name is Khan” and “Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Ghum”.
