‘Ehd-e-Wafa’ takes a dramatic turn, begins to gather momentum

Eleven episodes in, ISPR and Hum TV’s joint collaboration Ehd-e-Wafa has begun to gather momentum and is picking up pace.

Directed by Saifee Hassan, the drama follows the life of four friends – Shahzain (Osman Khalid Butt), Saad (Ahad Raza Mir), Sheheryar (Ahmed Ali Akbar) and Shariq (Wahaj Ali). The boys were together in Lawrence College Murree before they were expelled because of their shenanigans. While Saad went onto join the army, Shariq is pursuing a career and education in journalism. Sheheryar’s profession is still unclear and Shahzain, who belongs to a feudal family is incorporating himself into the family business.

All four boys also have their love interests, though the stories of Shariq and Sheheryar aren’t as well developed yet. Alizeh Shah as Dua plays Ahad’s love interests while Zara Noor Abbas as Rani is Osman’s.

While the premise and central plot of the story is the life of the four boys, there are several subplots running side by side because of which the episodes are a bit packed and muddled at some points. Instead of one scene flowing into the next, the episode tends jumps from scene to scene.

However, the acting of all the main characters is superb. Particularly note-worthy is Zara Noor Abbas as Rani, whose lively and colourful performance puts a smile on your face no matter what. Adnan Samad Khan, who is playing Gulzar Hussain from Basti Malook, Dera Ghazi Khan, is phenomenal in his character and has won the audiences with his strong performance. Ahad and Alizeh’s chemistry is very lit and their scenes together are very adorable.

    Saad and Dua

The supporting cast of the drama including Vaneezah Ahmed and Syed Muhammad Ahmed are also doing a commendable job.

Last but not least, the background score and OST is very enjoyable – the upbeat tune perfectly complements the mood of the drama.

Ehd-e-Wafa is no Alpha Bravo Charlie but the drama is a much-needed refresher in the list of dramas which are either tackling serious topics such as rape (Ruswai) or are the usual masala fest (Meray Paas Tum Ho). Moreso, it also qualifies as a great family entertainer.

  • ‘Ehd e Wafa’s’ latest episode throws shade at Abhinandan

‘Ehd e Wafa’s’ latest episode throws shade at Abhinandan

Hum Tv and ISPR’s joint venture Ehd e Wafa featuring Ahad Raza Mir, Osman Khalid Butt, Wahaj Ali, Ahmed Ali Akbar, Zara Noor Abbas and Alizeh Shah trends every Sunday. The drama has a loyal fanbase and given that it is a light-hearted family watch, that comes as no surprise.

In the latest episode, Saad (Mir) has joined the army and his training is underway in full swing. On one of his training missions, the officer tells the cadets, “Aap uss azeem fauj ka hissa bananay ja rahe hain, jis nay dushman ko jahaaz say utaar kar chai pilatay hain aur baad main poochtay hain ‘How was the tea?’” (You are going to become part of that army, who after capturing the enemy from the helicopter, served him tea and asked, ‘How was the tea?’)

To this, the cadets chimed, ‘Fantastic, sir.”

This scene definitely threw direct shade at Abhinandan, the Indian Airforce pilot who was captured in February in Balakot. A video of him drinking tea and saying that it was “fantastic” had gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Shahzain (Osman) and Rani (Zara) are getting betrothed to each other, much to Shahzain’s opposition. He wants to get married to Dua (Alizeh) to spite Saad but Alizeh’s parents reject his proposal. Shariq (Wahaj) is struggling to be a journalist while Sheheryar (Ahmed) is playing for his father’s band much to his disappointment.

The drama has begun to pick up in terms of the pace and the story is progressing well – it is entertaining and gripping. Ehd e Wafa is definitely the perfect Sunday night watch.

  • ‘Ye Dil Mera’ is off to a mysterious start

‘Ye Dil Mera’ is off to a mysterious start

The anticipation for Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly’s latest drama Ye Dil Mera was high. Even though the drama’s teasers made headlines for all the wrong reasons and were touted to glorify workplace harassment, fans and audiences were excited to see the real-life couple on the big screen.

The first episode of the drama aired this Wednesday and it was off to a mysterious start as audiences are introduced to the characters.

Noor-ul-Ain, played by Sajal Aly, is a happy-go-lucky girl with a dark past – viewers are just shown snippets of it. She lives with her overprotective Agha Jaan, played by Adnan Siddiqui, who has his daughter followed by guards at all times. Agha Jaan is so possessive of his daughter that he has his men beat up Aina’s university colleague because he flirted with Noor. So we’re a little wary of Agha Jaan’s character – he seems dubious.

On the other hand, we are introduced to Amaan, played by Ahad Raza Mir. From the glimpse the audiences are given, we’re assuming that he also has a mysterious past. Amaan is confident, successful and rich and Ahad gives off strong Christian Grey vibes as Amaan. There is more to Amaan than what meets the eye.

Noor and Amaan cross paths at a dholki where Amaan draws a sketch of Noor. What’s puzzling to both Aina and the viewers is that Amaan in his sketch drew a mark on Aina’s neck, a reminder of a haunting past, that she has covered up. The two later meet again when Amaan visits Aina’s university for an internship drive.

The pace of the first episode was a little slow while the flow was slightly bumpy because of weak editing. But considering it was only the first episode, we’re prepared to give it some time.

As far as the acting is concerned, Sajal, Ahad and Adnan delivered strong performances. Particularly noteworthy was Ahad’s performance as Amaan. Amaan has many shades to him and Ahad played them all finely – his expressions, mood and body language changed swiftly according to the mood of the show and deserve a round of applause. Looks like all his theatre work has polished his acting skills – not that he didn’t have them before.

Ye Dil Mera has been penned by the award-winning Farhat Ishtiaq and directed by Aehsun Talish of Suno Chanda fame. Along with Ahad, Sajal, and Adnan, the drama’s cast also includes Rabia Butt, Zarnish Khan and Mira Sethi.

Hum TV has described it as a tale of “love and revenge” and from the look of it, the drama will be a thrilling one – unusual for the Pakistani screens.

  • ‘Ye Dil Mera’s’ teasers take a dark turn

‘Ye Dil Mera’s’ teasers take a dark turn

Ever since the teasers of Ahad Raza Mir, Sajal Aly and Adnan Siddiqui’s upcoming drama Ye Dil Mera debuted, they’ve created a stir and dominated headlines. The initial teasers had received immense criticism for romanticising workplace harassment so much so, that the writer Farhat Ishtiaq had to defend the drama on social media (Read full story on that here).

Nonetheless, Sahad fans are excited to see the return of their favourite couple and Ye Dil Mera is set to air on Wednesdays starting October 30.

Following the announcement, Hum TV shared five more teasers of the drama, two of which are terrifyingly dark. While the first of the latest teasers show Ahad and Sajal in a professional environment, the other three teasers are dark and show the two battle with their respective demons. It appears that Adnan Siddiqui will be playing Sajal’s father in the drama.

Hum TV also revealed that the drama will be a “tale of love and revenge.”

Ye Dil Mera has been directed by Ahson Talish of Suno Chanda fame and written by Farhat Ishtiaq.
