Outstanding performances and intense drama make Faraar a riveting watch

The new drama, Faraar, is a thriller filled with unexpected twists, intense moments, and some out-of-the-box characters. Its first episode aired indicates that it does not have a typical storyline – it is packed with action, hard-hitting storylines and shocking moments that keep you glued to your screen.

The drama unfolds a story of six characters, Batish (Hamza Ali Abbasi), Nazish (Sohai Ali Abro), Fasih (Batish), Saadia (Mamya JSK), Babrik (Danyal Zafar) and Zhalay (Meerub Ali) – all of whom come from different walks of life yet carrying their burdens on their shoulders. They’re all trying to escape their pasts, driven by guilt and secrets.

Faraar is written by Mustafa Afridi, a talented writer known for his ability to tackle complex social issues. His latest work in the drama serial ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ directed by Saife Hassan, showcased his skill in creating intricate characters while addressing important societal topics like Child labour, girl education and overpopulation.

In Faraar, however, Afridi brings depth and intrigue to the story by bringing themes of freedom, guilt and the search for redemption.

His portrayal of characters trying to escape their pasts highlights the struggles many face in real life, making the drama both relatable and thought-provoking.

Mustafa Afridi has primarily collaborated with director Saife Hassan on projects like Sang-e-Mar Mar, Sang-e-Mah, Ehd-e-Wafa, and Zard Patton ka Bunn. The drama serial Faraar, therefore, marks a shift, as it is directed by Musadiq Malik and Syed Wajahat Hussian. Their direction adds a fresh twist to Afridi’s script, and it hits the right cord because of the gripping execution.

From the very first scene of the episode, we see Ahmed Ali Akbar as Fashih, a suspended yet fearless police officer who remains committed to doing what’s right. His character brings a certain intensity to the screen in another drama that airs on HUM TV in which Ahmed Ali Akbar plays the same character of a police officer as SHO Jam Nagar, but in Nadaan, he is not suspended.

Then there’s Hamza Ali Abbasi as ‘Batish,’ the hitman (Gunda), with a surprisingly soft side. Batish appears so awkward around Sadia, played by Mamya JSK, especially when he tries to hide his crush, which is both cute and funny. The general store owner’s funny guess about Batish’s next move was a nice, light moment before things got serious.

Danyal Zafar, who plays the character ‘Babrik’, enters the scene, easily irritated by his rival Suleman in Swabi. But what truly stands out in this episode is Hasan Noman, who steals the show as the local Pathan.

His scene, lounging on a charpaye and commenting on Babrik’s rude behaviour, is so authentic and engaging that you can’t help but appreciate how perfectly he plays the role. Hassan Noman was the last to star in Khaie, where he portrayed the character Pathan.

The most powerful moment goes to Sohai Ali Abro as Nazish, a character caught in a terrible situation. When she’s bound to a chair and threatened with acid and violence over a suspected affair, the tension is almost unbearable.

Her pain, facial expression, and the harsh domestic violence of the scene make it horrible and terrifying. Also, Nadia Jamil’s character is outstanding; her dialogue delivery and facial expressions were all on point, as she is playing a negative character, but she did very well.

Tanveer Hussain, a seasoned actor from PTV, is also seen in Faraar. After Zard Patton Ka Bunn, Gentlemen, and Mann Jogi, he is now a new character in Faraar.

In the cast, Noor-ul-Hassan is also seen playing a professor, Hamdani, who dared to speak against a powerful and corrupt politician.

  • Nadaan: A look at life in Karachi’s tough streets

Nadaan: A look at life in Karachi’s tough streets

The new drama serial ‘Nadaan’ offers a gripping story full of suspense and strong performances, directed by seasoned director Mehreen Jabbar, written by Saji Gul, and produced by Sultana Siddiqui.

The drama features a gripping story set in a tough street in Karachi, where life is a constant struggle against the backdrop of crime and corruption.

The first episode of Nadaan starts with Haider’s flashback, recounting his first meeting with Dr. Tabeer to an interrogation committee two months later.
This storytelling approach creates a sense of tension and intrigue right from the start.

Ahmed Ali Akbar plays the character of SHO Haider, the new policeman in Jam Nagar Karachi. He and Tabeer initially clash when she treats a patient without waiting for the police, but later, their relationship builds up as they learn to respect each other.

Nadaan takes place in Jam Nagar, where a Pir sahib named Subhan has strong influence in the area and runs a dangerous drug (heroine) trade with the help of his right-hand Tayyab.

Tabeer, played by Ramsha Khan, a professional and dedicated doctor, reopens a hospital with Usama, played by Hammad Shoaib. The hospital is funded by the Usama’s father, who is the MPA of Jam Nagar, and challenges the Pir Sahib’s illegal activities, making it a target for him.

Nadaan promises to tackle hard-hitting issues in society and make it much more than just another drama. The cast is amazing, it is directed very well, and it has a meaningful storyline.

The cast of Nadaan includes, Hammad Shoaib, Ali Gul Mallah, Kashif Hussain and Ahmed Randhawa.

Writer Saji Gul is bringing fresh stories to the TV screens. His previous work tilted ‘Mrs. & Mr. Shameem’ also revolved around social issues, including AIDS.

Here is the teaser of Nadaan:

It’s also about the life of a regular person who overtime, through the eyes of Iqbal Masih, starts to see things that are very common around us, yet we don’t notice them.”

“It’s about the rights of children… and is inspired by Iqbal Masih’s legacy,” stressed Ahmed. “It’s very relevant, on what Iqbal wanted to accomplish, it was relevant then and is still now. It’s happening in front of us. So I feel it is our duty but it takes time to act upon it.”

After finishing it, I made a prayer to Allah while watching alone, that I hoped to work with this man some day. Two-and-a-half months later the film’s director Shoaib sahab reached out and asked if I would act in his film. I asked who would be the hero, and he said ‘Ahmed Ali Akbar’. I said ‘The Parizaad one!’ and was overjoyed!”

  • Upcoming Pakistani dramas we’re incredibly excited about

Upcoming Pakistani dramas we’re incredibly excited about

There hasn’t been a better time to watch Pakistani dramas than now, what with a whole range of shows and actors set to make their mark on our screens. It looks like finally the entertainment industry has started listening to our calls for something other than the saas-bahu jhagray, because these shows range from celebrating women in sports to satire to exploring the thrills of first love.

It also looks like Pakistanis are about to see fresh faces as well as some beloved actors make their debute on screen as Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed are coming back once more, and Instagram influencers like Mamia Shahjaffer, Khushhal Khan and Dananeer are set to star as main leads.

We’re definitely certain that you’re cancelling your plans to set up your movie night after scrolling through our list.

    22 Qadam

Starring Hareem Farooq and Wahaj Ali, the drama is set to explore the lives of women in sports, through the story of Fari (played by Farooq) who aspires to become a cricketer. Speaking to The Current, Farooq called 22 Qadam “the voice of the unheard” and said that the sole inspiration behind this show was women like Sana Mir:

“The first person that comes to our mind when you talk about women and cricket is Sana Mir, she’s been an inspiration for so many women out there. It is just about breaking stereotypes and the taboos out there that women can also excel in sports, and if nothing else it makes you more independent and gives you that confidence that allows you to face the world in the best way possible.”

    College Gate

It looks like the entertainment industry has finally understood that there isn’t any one out there willnigly ready to sit down and listen to another shaadi story about underaged women marrying men twice their age, because we’re finally getting a story about college students and their personal experiences. The show, starring Khaqan Shahnawaz, Mamia Shahjaffer and veteran actress Saba Hameed, promises to be a drama unlike what has been shown before with topics like addiction, peer pressure and depression thrown into the story.

    Barzakh

Starring power leads Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed along with newcomer model Khushhal Khan, the series has definitely captured our attention, especially the fact that it is written and directed by the mastermind behind Churails (2018), Asim Abbasi. Speaking to Variety, Abbasi said that the inspiration for the series came after the death of his father and watching his own son grow into a young boy:

“In the aftermath of my father’s passing, and witnessing my son grow into a young boy, I found myself consumed with nostalgia, and memories of times gone and loves lost. And I began to think about my fears – the end of consciousness, the end of imagination, the end of love. And from these fears, grew a story where love was indeed eternal. Where it survived us – making it the ultimate human legacy.”

Producer of the series Kerjiwal said:

“‘Barzakh’ is a product of COVID brain – it was a time where like everyone else, Asim and I were talking about love, life, death, losing loved ones, unable to say our goodbyes. There was a sense of loss, but also confusion, because of a lack of completion. Death and parting didn’t seem like a finality like it used to because funerals and weddings were both happening on Zoom.

This new reality was surreal and to make any sense of it, physical contact or in-person meeting with friends and family became crucial. Hence the idea about a show which essentially was a family reunion came up.”

    101 Talakhien

This looks like the perfect drama for anyone (especially us) who is bored to death of marriage obsessed culture, and wants something dark and satirical- which is exactly what the show promises to deliver. Zahid Ahmed stars as famous lawyer Rustom Kavasji, who artfully decodes how couples begin to fall apart after getting married.

    Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri

This seems like a Pakistani version of K-dramas which will explore the thrills of high school relationships, because this trailer has already got us counting down the days to the release. TikTok star Dananeer and model and actor Khushhal Khan are the main leads of the drama and are shown to be complete opposites, who slowly come to fall in love with each other. However, their relationship is threatened by their parents leading to the couple going to any lengths to protect their relationship.

    Idiot

  • Ahmed Ali Akbar’s upcoming film ‘Gunjal’ follows investigation of labor activist Iqbal Masih’s murder

Actor Ahmed Ali Akbar’s upcoming film ‘Gunjal’ will certainly change the way Pakistani audiences see him. • Exclusive: Amin Iqbal reacts to Ali Abbas’ controversial confession about him

Exclusive: Amin Iqbal reacts to Ali Abbas’ controversial confession about him

Actor Ali Abbas’ acting career kicked off with director Amin Iqbal’s drama Meri Dulari opposite Yumna Zaidi on Geo TV. He weighed 86 kilos before stepping into TV and lost around 9 kilos to look the part.

However Ali revealed on Nida Yasir’s morning show that on the first day of his shoot, the veteran director slammed him. According to the Meherposh star, Amin told him that he doesn’t look like a star and will never become one, also that he doesn’t have the qualities in him to be a leading hero. This incident dampened his confidence.

Now in an exclusive interview with The Current while promoting his movie Rehbra, Amin Iqbal responded to Ali’s allegations. The Ishq-e-Laa maker said, “The judgement could be wrong at times as I am a human too but whatever I have said about someone, it has become true. There is a difference between being a star and being an actor.

“I have introduced artists like Yumna Zaidi, Saba Qamar and Sameer Sohail from Lahore to the showbiz fraternity, even recently when I casted Azaan Sami Khan in Ishq-e-Laa, people scrutinised his casting in the play but respect and disrespect is in the hands of God.”

“I know his father and grandfather personally and have had good terms with him.”

Iqbal concluded by saying that now that Ali is in a better space career wise, it could be because of the remarks that Amin gave him early on his career as Abbas must have improved himself after it.

Earlier this year Abbas appreciated his contemporary Ahmed Ali Akbar in an interview with Maliha Rehman.

The Mere Apnay star stated that Ahmad has given a superlative performance in Parizaad and it makes him happy that underrated actors like him are now getting leading roles in mainstream projects.

He added that at the time of Ehd-e-Wafa there was noise about him being sidelined in the play which starred bigger names like Ahad Raza Mir and Osman Khalid Butt alongside him.

Ehd-e-Wafa emerged as a blockbuster in 2020 and starred an ensemble cast.

The Fitrat star mentioned that he is the biggest fan of Naumaan Ijaz and takes inspiration from him while performing, especially from his performance in Mera Saeen.
