There is one thing Ali Safina will never ever do

Ali Safina has established himself in the entertainment industry with a successful acting, modelling and hosting career. He recently appeared as a guest in Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast where the host asked, “One thing you will never do.”

Safina replied, “I will never talk nonsense against Pakistan. Nowadays, it has become a trend to say bad things about Pakistan or whatever. We constantly talk badly about our own people. You know, people talk about the establishment, then cricketers, then artists. I mean, give us a break.”

The Fairy Tale actor reflected on the trend of negativity, expressing disappointment at how quickly people criticize and judge their own country’s achievements.

“What I’m trying to say is, why everyone so angry is. Why is everyone judging others? I think our country is really great, a beautiful country, but people aren’t appreciating it. We’re destroying everything and fighting with everyone. Why are we fighting, we have nothing to celebrate. But even the little things sometimes we feel happy about them. Like recently, when our satellite went to space, people were still making negative comments about it,” he observed.

Ali Safina continued, “Okay, tell me, when was the last time we sent a satellite? It’s the first time we did something like this. Now that Sparco has finally done it, it’s a good thing. You know, people need to talk positively. But again, they only criticize. You’ll never find me speaking badly about Pakistan.”
Safina has starred in dramas like the Barat series, Suno Chanda, Chupke Chupke, and Very Film.

Was Ali Safina mocking Wahaj’s famous shawl scene?

People worldwide went wild for Murtasim, the swoon-worthy role immortalised by Wahaj Ali in Tere Bin, and his iconic shawl. Regardless of what shenanigans were going on, the shawl always remained perfectly in place, capturing fans’ hearts. Wahaj Ali’s performance added to the shawl’s allure, making it a sensation, and people couldn’t get enough of it.

Actor Ali Safina recently donned a shawl in a play, leading to accusations of him mocking Wahaj.

Ali Safina played the comic role of ‘AK’ in the comedy drama ‘Fairy Tale in Ramadan’, in which he performed comedy while wearing a shawl.

In an interview, Safina clarified, “I did not make fun of anyone, a comedian makes his own jokes. The drama was shot in the cold nights of December and I was feeling cold.” He said that he asked his female co-star to bring him a shawl or something and he just wanted to put a comedic spin on the drama. At the time he had envisioned Batman as his inspiration when he walked away with a flying shawl but it later became Murtasim’s signature move.

Yasir Hussain opens up about his controversial remark, ‘Naumaan Ijaz should quit acting’

Actor Yasir Hussain recently made an appearance on Hasna Mana Hai hosted by Tabish Hashmi. On being asked for clarification about his statement that senior actor Naumaan Ijaz should quit acting.

The Aik Thi Laila star clarified that once he was talking to Naumaan Ijaz about how hosts ask guests questions like who should leave acting and he just does not want to name anybody. To this, the Raqeeb Se star told Yasir that he can take his name whenever such a question pops up. Ijaz also assured him that he wouldn’t be offended and that is why Yasir took Naumaan Ijaz’s name.

Last year when Hussain was featured in an episode of The Talk Talk Show, hosted by Hassan Choudary, he revealed that he doesn’t want to work with Ahsan Khan.

He said, “I suppose Ahsan Khan finds me dull. Please do ask him why he finds working with me boring.” He claims that I am uninteresting, despite the fact that I am fond of him.

In 2017, Ahsan called out Yasir for his joke about his role in Udaari, while recording an award show skit.

“I worked very hard in Udaari, I risked my career by playing the role of a child molester, just so the entire team of Udaari could spread awareness about it. So at the HUM awards, when Yasir Hussain made that remark I honestly felt bad, more so at the audience from the educated class that was laughing with him.”

He further added, “The character of Imtiaz is not a joke. Ehtesham worked so hard on this project and you cannot just associate the sensitivity of the topic with a joke. But as hurt as I was, one thing I would like to say is that Yasir called me to apologize and he has also issued a public apology.

However later the two bonded on Ahsan’s chat show.

Earlier this year, Yasir opened up about his spat with actress Hira Tareen on Wajahat Rauf’s chat show. The Jhooti star was asked about actress Hira Tareen’s statement recently about him and his craft, Yasir said that he doesn’t even know her at all.

The Koel director stated that all he knows about her is that she is his friend’s spouse and even if she abuses him on the road, he’ll not react.

In November 2021, the celebrity couple Ali Safina and Hira Tareen, who tied the knot back in 2013, made an appearance on Time Out on Ahsan Khan.

The Khaas star declared her dislikeness for actor and writer Yasir Hussain.

On being asked about a celebrity who’s acting skills she doesn’t like, Ali answered for his wife and took Mahira Khan’s name. However Hira was quick to add that no, its actually a male celebrity whom she dislikes.

She mentioned that she doesn’t like Yasir’s acting skills at all, adding that he lacks basic manners (tameez), “Its about how you talk to people”.

The Jhooti actor recently shared a post and added a note that he will leak the movies on cable if they are not released in cinemas anytime soon.

Speaking of the digital era, the duo strongly believe that social media is starting to have a strong impact on the industry. “There will come a time when our actors will be girls who’ve risen on TikTok or other social media apps,” Safina said.

Tareen thought that time is already here and Hania Aamir is a strong example of this.”

The Qaraar star shared, “There was that shooting that happened at the production house in which a security guard opened fire on our engineer and seven others were injured as well. That was all over the news. A lack of security, late payments and dishonesty. No target oriented work which would mean that if you reach a certain target, this is the level you’ll achieve or be promoted. Actors or artists are investing their own money into social media. They’re getting their own pictures taken, putting in their own efforts to get them published and posted. If I put in this much effort in any other industry, I’d reach such heights in my career.”

  • Ali Safina thinks Captain Safdar is an ‘ideal ghar daamaad’

Ali Safina thinks Captain Safdar is an ‘ideal ghar daamaad’

Actor Ali Safina was asked on Geo News‘ special Pakistan Super League (PSL) transmission as to who would be a better ghar daamaad (live-in son-in-law). Anchorperson Shahzad Iqbal asked the ‘Chupke Chupke’ actor who would he choose as a better ghar daamaad: Minister of Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar, Faisal Sabzwari of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and PML-N’s Talal Chaudhry.

Ali voted for Captain (r) Safdar, who is married to Maryam Nawaz. “Safdar sahab already has the elements of a ghar daamaad in him”.

Shahzad added to Ali’s stance saying, ” Safdar sahab embodies this element very positively.”

Shahzad Iqbal played a clip of Safdar, where he says, “Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is like a brother to me while his father Asif Ali Zardari is the life-long president of the son-in-law’s union. I am the general secretary.”

  • Ali Safina responds to criticism on character in ‘Chupke Chupke’

Ali Safina responds to criticism on character in ‘Chupke Chupke’

Ali Safina has responded to the criticism on a character he is playing in a Hum TV’s special Ramzan series Chupke Chupke.

When a social media user asked Safina how he feels about the criticism on his role of a ghar damad, the actor said: “Bhai jab Miskeen bhai apni family k saath khush hai to logon ko kya fikar hai? Chill karein sab and enjoy the show (If Miskeen is happy with his family then why are people worried? Chill and enjoy the drama).”

Safina’s character has sparked a heated debate on social media with many saying that the drama is showing sons-in-law in poor light. Safina, who plays Miskeen is married to Gul (Mira Sethi) and lives in his wife’s house with her family. His duty is to look after the kitchen and to do all the other house chores.

Miskeen’s in-laws and wife never leave a chance to insult him and mock him for being “useless” and only a burden to the family. Some viewers are unhappy with this problematic portrayal of a ghar damad.

Earlier, Osman Khalid Butt had justified the character saying that Miskeen is ridiculed because he refuses to work even though he has an opportunity to join the family business.

“And while he’s played for broad comedy, has his own arc,” he had added.

Written by Saima Akram Chaudhry and directed by Danish Nawaz, Chupke Chupke is a comic caper involving two families. It also features Ayeza Khan, Asma Abbas, Farhan Ali Agha, Aymen Saleem, Arsalan Naseer, Mira Sethi and Tara Mahmood besides Butt and Safina.

  • Osman Khalid Butt defends ‘Chupke Chupke’ for ‘presenting ghar damads in negative light’

Osman Khalid Butt defends ‘Chupke Chupke’ for ‘presenting ghar damads in negative light’

Soul Sisters Pakistan’s (SSP) Kanwal Ahmed recently called out Chupke Chupke for portraying ghar damads in a negative light.

Ahmed, who was recently selected by Facebook as one of its 115 ‘Community Leaders’ using the social network to help others, criticised the serial for “disempowering audiences by reinforcing problematic stereotypes.”

Referring to a character (played by Ali Safina) belittled in the drama for staying with his in-laws, Ahmed said: “Such as here the ‘ghar damad‘ character is an object of constant ridicule. Only yesterday a woman on SSP was asking how she and [her] sisters can manage her old parents as none of them can move in with them.”

Responding to Kanwal’s tweet, Osman Khalid Butt – who plays the lead character in Chupke Chupke – said that in the context of the drama, the ‘ghar damad’ is not the victim.

“This is an interesting take. However, it’s important to mention that this ‘ghar damad‘ refuses to work despite being offered a job in the family business. He isn’t with his in-laws because of financial (or any) duress and while he’s played for broad comedy, he has his own arc,” said Butt.

Ahmed, in response, argued the character’s incompetence is to deliberately put him in a bad light to validate age-old stereotypes.

“My concern though is that comedy that identifies with problematic, existing stereotypes reinforces them in society. For example, how many men would want to be ‘ghar damads’ after watching this?” questioned Kanwal.

Agreeing with Ahmed that the stereotype was not as nuanced as it should have been, Butt said: “But viewers will also be considering the fact that his wife is shown to be quite obviously dominating / demeaning (which she’s called out on, albeit in a comedic manner). And he’s a slacker, no?”

Though the two are yet to reach a cohesive conclusion, it won’t be wrong to say our TV screens are yet to project behaviour that does not conform to societal norms in a positive light.

Written by Saima Akram Chaudhry, Chupke Chupke is a story of two families of late Daar Ji (grandfather), who married twice. The first wife Bebe (Asma Abbas) is a Punjabi woman and the second wife Bakhto (Uzma Beg) is Saraiki. Both gave birth to two children (hilariously emphasizing his equal treatment of wives) and unfortunately, both lost one of their children. We see Farhan Ally Agha as Bebe’s stingy son who has two daughters; Meenu (Ayeza Khan) and Muneeba aka Mirchi. On the other hand, Fahad aka Fazi and Gul (Osman Khalid Butt and Mira Sethi) are twin siblings and grandchildren of Bakhto.

If this seems confusing to you, embrace for more actors: Hadi and Wali (Arslan Naseer and Aadi Khan) are brothers, Ali Safina (Gul’s husband and a ghar damaad), Mishi (Aymen), and Roomi as OB’s sisters.

VIDEO: Hira Tareen reveals she had synesthesia since childhood

Pakistani actor Hira Tareen revealed in a recent interview that she has synesthesia, a medical condition in which people associate objects such as letters, shapes, numbers or people’s names with a sensory perception such as smell, colour or flavour.

In a recent interview, Tareen shared that as a child she used to associate numbers with colours, and did not think it was anything out of the ordinary. She did not know it was a medical condition with a proper term until she was in America for a clinic checkup.

“I was in America at a random clinic for a checkup when I saw something on TV that actually described my condition. When I saw that documentary on CNN, I was shocked to discover that whatever they were describing was what I did in my childhood. It’s a condition called synesthesia and in it, people join objects such as letters, shapes, numbers or people’s names with a sensory perception such as smell, colour or flavour.”

The 32-year-old model/actor is married to Ali Safina since 2013, and together they have a daughter.
