    Here is a complete list of the nominations from the Lux Style Awards 2023

    The final nominations for the prestigious Lux Style Awards 2023 are finally here, celebrating the best of the art and culture of Pakistan. The 22nd award ceremony will be held in Karachi, attended by the creme de la creme of the entertainment industry.

    This year marks a cultural shift as Pakistani entertainment is fresh off the high of global praise. Songs from Coke Studio like ‘Pasoori’ by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill received international acclaim, and the later was also the subject of a controversial re-make in the Bollywood film ‘Satyaprem Ki Katha’.

    Pakistani films like Kamli by Sarmad Khoosat were well received , as well as ‘The Legend Of Maula Jatt’ which was sadly not included in the nominations after the producers released a statement saying the ceremony’s limited film categories honoring writers and directors is the reason why they did not submit their film as consideration.

    ‘Joyland’ by Saim Sadiq which featured the transgender actress Alina Khan, is among the most nominated films in the awards ceremony. The movie received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival, and was shortlisted as a nomination for the Academy Awards.

    ‘Pasoori’ virtuoso Sheema Kermani says she’s against remakes amid Bollywood controversy

    The dancing virtuoso Sheema Kermani has thoughts about remakes after Bollywood remade the Coke Studio hit ‘Pasoori’ in which the dancing legend made an appearance.

    In the past few days, the internet became a battlefield after Bollywood music giant T-Series adapted the massive Ali Sethi and Shae Gill hit, with Ajit Singh for ‘Satyaprem Ka Katha’.

    It was a blazing hellscape, with Indian and Pakistani fans of the original track calling the remake distateful. Shae Gill had to step in to implore to fans to stop sending hate to the singers in a video:

    “And if it’s something you don’t like at all then I would say don’t listen to it. Instead of sending hate, don’t listen to it because not liking something and talking about it in your home is still fine but if you are publicly humiliating and insulting someone then it’s not very nice, is it,” she requested fans of the Pakistani hit.

    Now Kermani has given her two cents on the topic while speaking to Aaj Tak. The feminist activist said she has not watched ‘Pasoori Nu’, and is not a fan of remakes:

    “I haven’t even seen it, so I can’t comment. My feeling about remake songs has always been mixed. The toppers that are popular are remade. First of all, my reaction is that no brother, the original, is the best. The composition is so beautiful, so what is the need to remake it? I don’t like remake culture too much. Although seen in a way, the advantage is that young people are also listening to the old iconic songs. It’s a good thing. Personally, I am against it.”

    During the ‘Pasoori Nu’ controversy, an old video of Ali Sethi singing Arijit Singh’s ‘Aayat’ from the film Bajirao Mastani during an Instagram Live session went viral on the internet, where he praised the singer as one of the best ones from Bollywood:

    “Aapke mulk ke jo sabse zabardast singer he, sabse versatile… I have said this many times, but you know I feel like the sign of a great singer as opposed to say the sign of a very gifted singer, is that they can make it feel effortless and this is what Arijit Singh does with the song Aayat, which I am obsessed with. Which I think is one of the most beautiful songs to emerge from the Indian movie scene in years.”

    These last two days will probably go down in history as the only time Pakistan and India combined forces to take on the urgent matter of Bollywood taking up classics and destroying them.

    On Monday, T-Series released their own version of Coke Studio’s massive global hit ‘Pasoori’, giving credit solely to Ali Sethi, excluding Shae Gill and Xulfi even though they had an equal part to play in making the song what it is today.

    The new version is sung by Arijit Singh, and even though for Pakistanis it’s like kisi ne dil par pathar mara hai, across the border the verdict has been announced: they can’t feel the new version either.

    Jo bacha ab Pakistan Studies agay ja kar parhay ga, it wasn’t peace talks or Fawad Khan’s smolder that got India and Pakistan to unite, it was the utterly incompetent T-Series.

    It’s confusing for us as well

    Mubarakien maybe Pasoori can be called the song that finally united India and Pakistan together.

    Remember how anxious we all were when news arrived that there was a chance ‘Pasoori’ will be used ‘Satyaprem Ki Katha’, an upcoming Bollywood film, starring Kiara Advani and Kartik Aaryan.

    When the rumors emerged, the internet had a rightful blowout because kuch tou rehnay do humaray pass Bollywood?! Shae Gill revealed to The Current that she had not been aware about the recent reports.

    But now, it seems like Bollywood has indeed taken Pasoori…and turned it in to an item number song.

    Clearly Twitter users were unhappy with how T-Series had once more, taken a beloved Pakistani hit and turned it into a cheap pop song. Adding fuel to fire, they did not tag Shae Gill in the tweet!

    Bollywood news outlets have announced that the massively popular Ali Sethi and Shae Gill hit ‘Pasoori’ is being remade for the upcoming film ‘Satyaprem Ka Katha’ which will star Kiara Advani and  Kartik Aaryan.

    Bollywood Hungama reports that a source close to the film said:

    The shoot will take place tomorrow and it will be shot in Mumbai over a period of two days. The set is being put up and the team is ready to unleash their final brahmastra in the release week. The song, Pasoori, is extremely popular in the digital world and the team is hoping to recreate the same magic.”

    Since this news broke out on Twitter, Pakistani fans have slammed Bollywood for plagiarising yet another brilliant single from Pakistani singers, because kya Nach Punjaban aap logon kay liye kaafi nahi tha?

    In an Instagram story, actor Yasir Hussain has said that Pakistanis have become too cool to appreciate their own artists, referring to singer Ali Sethi not being appreciated enough for his performance at Coachella.

    “Diljit too went to Coachella and everyone in India was appreciating him. This is also a big achievement for a Pakistani artist. But, as usual, we did not appreciate it,” wrote Yasir.

    Ali Sethi performed at this year’s Coachella festival on April 16. Sethi sang his smash hit Coke Studio song Pasoori.

    Last year, Pasoori became the most Googled ‘hum to search’ song of 2022. Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s iconic track left behind chartbusters like BTS’ Butter, Siravali and Chaand Baaliyan.

    Feroze Khan has issued a public apology to the ten celebrities whose personal information was leaked to the internet when he posted their personal phone numbers and home addresses on Twitter in a screenshot.

    Khan had written in a statement: “As an actor, I know the importance of privacy and value it the most. I never intended that anyone’s peace be disturbed. If any one of my colleagues had to go through any inconvenience I’m deeply sorry for that.”

    Actor Muneeb Butt and his wife, Aiman, along with her sister Minal, were among the celebrities whose private info was leaked, but yesterday Butt shared a picture of him and Khan together, and revealed that they had settled their differences and decided to drop the charges against the “Habs” actor.

    His statement read:

    “..To give us pain and mental distress wasn’t FK’s intention it was a mistake I announce to drop all of the charges.”

    Butt had previously filed a stalking report with the cyber crime department against Khan for leaking his and his family’s personal information.

    “Whoever is suggesting this to you has thrown you into deep trouble my friend I feel bad for you now you will have to face all of this… Initially I thought it’s a stupid mistake waited for 24 hours but no apology or excuse proved that it was a deliberate move, I thought you were better than that seriously. Complaint registration/ verification process has been completed FIA cyber circle has intiated the inquiry. The process has started, you will have to taste your own medicine now wait for the call,” he had written.

    Celebrities like Yasir Hussain had slammed Khan for being ‘stupid’ for first beating up his wife, and then leaking his number to the world.

    Actor Sarwat Gilani had shared a screenshot on her Instagram page of the numerous phone calls she had received since her number was leaked by Khan, and publicly announced that she was suing him along with the other celebrities.

    Gilani had written: “It is bizarre and despicable that private information, including phone numbers, of various famous individuals has been publicly shared on the absurd pretext of issuing legal notice to them by @ferozekhan Not only are such actions clearly illegal but also demonstrates the total lack of maturity to handle matters in a civilized way.”

    ‘Pasoori’ crosses 500 million views on YouTube

    Coke Studio’s season 14 smash hit Pasoori has crossed 500 million views on YouTube, making it the first ever song from the music juggernaut to reach this milestone.

    Taking to Instagram, lead singer Ali Sethi shared the news of the record with his followers alongside a few pictures and videos from a close-knit party commemorating the achievement. In the clips, Sethi can be seen happily celebrating with many others including Shae Gill, Abdullah Siddiqui and Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan.

    The official YouTube channel of Coke Studio also shared a heartwarming video to hail their latest accomplishment. The description of the video included a touching note to their supporters.

    “Celebrating your ever-growing love for Pasoori, helping us transcend borders and boundaries and making it a global phenomenon. Congratulations to all of you on helping Pasoori achieve more than 500 Million views across YouTube,” said the statement.

    Ali Sethi to perform at the Coachella Music Festival

    Pakistan’s entertainment industry is continuing 2022’s highs with Ali Sethi all set to perform at this year’s Coachella festival.
    The singer took to Instagram on Tuesday night to reveal that he will be performing at the famous music festival.
    Sethi will take the stage on the third day of the almost week long festivities on April 16, when Frank Ocean will be the main headline.
    In his post, the singer encouraged all of his fans to attend and also revealed that presale tickets will be available from January 13 onwards.

  • 8 Pakistani artists featured in ‘Top 50 Asian Stars’ list

    Hailing from diverse realms of showbiz, the Pakistani showbiz industry icons have dominated the Top 50 Asian Stars list. Having greatly contributed to the entertainment industry, these Pakistanis celebrities were recognised nationally and internationally.

    The list is published annually and this time, Pakistani actors and singers have made their nation proud. From Fawad Khan to Arooj Aftab, there have been eight stars who were listed among other South Asian artists on Britain’s EasternEye.

    The list includes Fawad Khan, Sajal Aly, Atif Aslam, Ali Sethi and Shae Gill, Humayun Saeed, Hadiqa Kiani, Arooj Aftab, and Riz Ahmed.

    In ascending order, Fawad Khan sits at number two. The handsome hunk broke records with his terrific performance in The Legend of Maula Jatt smashing all Pakistani box-office records globally.

    Following Khan is the iconic singer Atif Aslam securing the 13th spot. Aslam also became the most-streamed Pakistani singer of 2022.

    Sitting at number 16 is actress Sajal Aly. The diva made her international debut with the English film What’s Love Got To Do With It?  that propelled her to international stardom.

    At the 17th spot, we have Riz Ahmed. This British Asian actor has been shining bright like a diamond by winning a Best Live Action Short Film Oscar at the 94th Academy Awards for The Long Goodbye.

    For the 38th spot, Arooj Aftab jumped in to make it to the list. The New York-based singer is the first female Pakistani artist to win a Grammy award for Best Global Music Performance, along with securing a Best New Artist nomination.

    At number 40 we have the talented singer Hadiqa Kiani. The Pakistani pop icon with her soldout concerts, philanthropy, and humanitarian work during the flash floods in Pakistan helped her secure a spot on the list of accomplished artists.

    Another fine actor of Lollywood who recently made his Netflix debut is Humayun Saeed sitting at number 45. Saeed’s fine acting skills helped him land a key role as Dr. Hasnat Khan in the popular The Crown series. 

    At number 46 is the Pasoori duo Shae Gill and Ali Sethi for the roaring success of their Coke Studio 14 single.
