    Sources have said that the former premier will return to Pakistan on October 21 via a connecting flight. Sharif will land at Abu Dhabi International Airport from London on October 21 and on the same day, he will leave for Lahore.

    Mian Nawaz Sharif’s business class ticket for flight 243 on a private airline had been booked in advance. The PML-N supremo’s flight will land at the Lahore Airport at 6:25 PM.

    Nawaz Sharif was permanently disqualified in 2017 for not declaring an outstanding salary. After that, he went to London in 2019 for a medical checkup and hasn’t come back yet.

    The PML-N, with the assistance of its legal team, intends to petition the Lahore High Court (LHC) for Nawaz’s bail prior to his arrival in Pakistan. This decision has been made in order to prevent Nawaz from being arrested at Lahore airport, as he has been declared a proclaimed offender.

    The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officers and employees unions have formally announced their intent to hold nationwide airport protests today. Furthermore, the unions have collectively resolved to initiate a campaign aimed at the removal of the current Director-General (DG) of the CAA.

    According to a report by ARY News, these demonstrations are a direct response to the federal government’s recent decision to contract out the management of three prominent airports, which has elicited strong opposition from CAA personnel.

    In the month of July, CAA employees had previously expressed their objections to the outsourcing of Pakistan’s three major airports.

    In this regard, a protest was organized at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, led by the CAA’s union and officer association.

    The government has approved a draft to outsource three of its major airports in a bid to boost its dwindling foreign exchange reserves.

    The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the government considered a summary presented by the Ministry of Aviation regarding the engagement of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is part of the World Bank Group, as a transaction advisor for the outsourcing process.

    The airports that will be outsourced are the Jinnah International Airport Karachi, Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, and Islamabad International Airport.

    The committee, headed by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, initiated the outsourcing process under the Public-Private Partnership Act-2017 to engage private investors/airport operators to run the airports, develop associated land assets, and enhance commercial activities. The committee also approved the draft Transaction Advisory Agreement (TASA) reached with the IFC by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) for the outsourcing of the airports after a detailed discussion.

    The details of the partnership or any agreement have not been made official. According to officials, Pakistan has been in talks with Qatar to jointly run terminals at the three airports.

    Prime Minister visited Doha last year to seek Qatari investment in the country’s energy and aviation sectors, and the Qatar Investment Authority pledged $3 billion to Pakistan.

    Pakistan’s national flag carrier is struggling with accumulated losses of nearly Rs400 billion Pakistani rupees, and the government hopes that outsourcing the airports will help attract direct foreign investment and provide world-class facilities to passengers.

    Customs seizes 400 kg of pork at Lahore airport

    Around 400 kg of pork was seized from a foreign individual by customs officials stationed at the Lahore airport.

    Sources claim that the customs officials were informed that pork will be smuggled from Dubai aboard private aircraft flight ER 724.

    Customs officers intervened and removed 400 kg of pork from the accused’s hands, thwarting the attempt at smuggling.

    The pork was concealed from the scanning device, according to the authorities, by being packed in 12 large cartons with special black plastic sheets.

    The smuggler was apprehended by deputy collector of customs Saira Batool when she arrived at the airport, and it was later discovered that the pork was being distributed to other hotels, according to reports.

    In a related incident, customs agents apprehended a passenger flying from the United States and thwarted an attempt to smuggle goods worth around Rs 8 million through Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.
