When we asked whether she had received international offers, Amar Khan replied, “The interesting thing is there was one offer and I did audition for it, but obviously, it didn’t work out. I am sure I would have been a better option there, but I am sure with OTT platforms, actors are trying their luck abroad. I am sure more avenues like this open up for Pakistani actors.”

“Your drama is still airing on Geo, what do you think has been the best character of your career so far,” The Current inquired.

“There is one drama which is very close to my heart but it didn’t get a lot of viewership neither did I get ratings as such at the beginning of this year. I did a drama by Kashif Nisar ‘Breaking News’ which was the first Pakistani drama solely based on journalism. I portrayed a journalist, and while I received a lot of critical acclaim but our saas -bahu audience didn’t like it that much,” the actress added.

Currently, Amar Khan is starring in the drama serial Dil-e-Nadan with Mikaal Zulfiqar, written by Sadia Akhtar and directed by Saima Waseem. She is playing the character of Nayab, whereas Mikaal is playing the character of Zaviyaar.

  • Breaking News is a new-age take on media and companionship with a desi tarka

Breaking News is a new-age take on media and companionship with a desi tarka

Green TV’s new serial ‘Breaking News’ is a rather fresh concept among the current lot of dramas currently running on television. True to the Green track record, the serial promises an out-of-the-box story. Two episodes have been released till the time this review is being written.

The story revolves around Mishaal and Hussain, a pair in love (but not madly so), equally focused on their respective careers. The boy brought up in an urban and slightly privileged background, shows restraint in his countenance. Mishal, on the other hand, is a small-town girl, ambitious and a lot more expressive. She lives in a rented place where her landlady’s teenage son has an eye for her but she is traditional enough to not share it with Hussain even though he asks the reason for her discomfort multiple times.

Mishal is played by Amar Khan and Hussain is played by ‘Fairytale’ star Hamza Sohail. They both look the part and the styling is on point for the strata they represent.

There is a parallel story of Naveed Khan played by Ali Safina, the corrupt television anchor born to a journalist father who died a terrible death after reporting against a local politician. As a kid, he was beaten for the same crime his father committed. He is a masochist- inflicting pain on himself- and conducts a completely staged show against ethical norms, only to get the ratings. He is also lenient towards his content director Hussain’s idealism which in most instances is in clash with his desire to get views and ratings.

Like other Kashif Nisar’s ventures, the drama is real and relatable but less bleak. That may prove to be wrong in the future as the teaser for the coming episode promises things turning topsy-turvy for the lead characters. The negative side of media and the risk journalists put themselves through has been shown in multiple projects including the recent ‘Ishq e Laa’, but a dedicated project to the modus operandi of media, the rat race of ratings and the rhetoric of “screen ki sage par jab sach lutta hai wo bikta hai”.

Airing twice a week, the show is a window into the optics of news medium, the 24/7 media feed culture, and the dirty politics of breaking news keeping morality at bay. The tug-of-war that goes between anchors in this industry will provide insight into how they contribute to the industry with this crisply written script.

‘Watching SRK on-screen is an event’: Amar Khan in awe of Shah Rukh Khan’s screen presence

Actor Amar Khan took to her Twitter handle to share her excitement about Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback film Pathaan‘s release.

Amar tweeted, “Reviving back so many Single screens . Now that’s the hysteria of a King! Ufff last saw his zero in Pakistan, then films got banned on both sides. Watching Shahrukh khan on screen is not viewing a film it’s witnessing an event. This man withstood all TVs, VCRs, digital & and whatnot.”

Earlier this month, Khan appreciated Bhansali’s work and expressed her desire for a filmmaker like him to be born “on this side of the border.” She further stated that there is a dearth of women-centric storylines in Pakistani cinema.

Amar Khan wants Pakistan to have proper acting schools

“The success of Gangubai Kathiawari dispelled two myths: that heroines cannot be box office heroes. And that good old-fashioned dialogues are not appreciated by everyone. Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his simplest film infusing it with deep emotion and complete drama,” a fan wrote on Twitter.

Following suit, Khan shared the fan’s post by reflecting on the lack of similar projects in Pakistan. “Hopefully in 2023 someone like Bhansali is born on this side of the border too, or we will be doomed to watch only male-centric films! We have never made female-oriented films that are commercially successful, it’s just the same old repetitive storyline circling a man,” lamented the Daraar star.

Amar Khan wants Lollywood to create more female-centered, commercially successful films

Looking back at the year 2022, Pakistani cinema produced commercially and critically successful films like Kamli, Joyland and of course, Maula Jatt. This year was the start of listening to voices that didn’t just circle around men. Now actress Amar Khan has expressed hope that the conversation keeps going on, while the industry releases more movies that champion women voices and don’t revolve around male-centered notions.
Yesterday on Twitter, the actress shared a post applauding the success of Bollywood movie “Gangubai Kathiawari” which has surpassed all other productions to become the number 1 movie at the Indian box office. The post applauded director and writer Sanjay Leela Bhansali for breaking the stereotype that women-led movies don’t become instant hits, and that movies infused with emotional dialogues rather than intense action scenes wouldn’t interest anyone.

Amar Khan wrote that she hoped Pakistan would follow the same footsteps as its neighbor and soon start creating more films that were female-centered and also commercially successful.
“Rab kare 2023 mein koi aik adh bhansali border k is paar bhi janam le.Warna we have never made a female oriented commercially succesful film. They continue to be male centric!!”

‘Don’t even know Bipasha Basu’: Armeena Rana hits out at trolls for remarks on her pregnancy shoot

Actor Armeena Rana Khan faced flak for being “too western” in her maternity shoot, a netizen even accused her of plagiarising Bipasha Basu’s pregnancy shoot. However, the Janaan star clapped back at haters.

Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover announce pregnancy, shares maternity photoshoot pics - CINEMA - CINE NEWS | Kerala Kaumudi Online

While sharing a screenshot from the comment section of her maternity shoot picture, Khan showed how she shut a troll for being a “hypocrite” for wanting her to confide to his perfect ‘desi woman’ standard. “Troll me all you want, I don’t care and will never care,” she wrote reiterating that it’s her online space and she shares all updates with her fans and well-wishers and not with haters.

She went on to share the brutal comments she has received on the post. A person commented on how her maternity shoot looked like a “Hollywood copy” and that women shouldn’t copy the “Kafir (sinners)” to feel empowered. “Hey ladies, Don’t be like Fatima. She’s a hypocrite,” wrote Khan.

Triggered by the negative comments, Khan put up a PSA for everyone following her. “Next up, I will talk about my delivery and all of the details when it happens. [This is] my space, not yours,” she wrote in a series of Instagram Stories. “If I haven’t triggered you religious fanatics enough yet, watch this space.”

She also went on to encourage other women to share their experiences of motherhood, and otherwise and claim their space after a fan congratulated her for finding the strength to do the same. “Claim your space, ladies. Motherhood and all its aspects are indeed beautiful. We should discuss our experiences. Let’s lift the ‘shame’ which isn’t even Islamic by the way, but has more to do with misogyny and our oppressive culture,” Khan exclaimed.

Khan, on a roll, pointed out the lack of logic in a certain troll’s comment who insisted on her to feel “shameful because she’s a Muslim woman.” She said, “When you see a pregnant woman in public on the streets, do you wear those horse blinkers or do you avert your eyes? I doubt you do either. It all depends on how filthy your mind is,” she concluded her series of posts.
