Which Pakistani cricketer is behind Sri Lanka’s historic win against India?

On Tuesday, Sri Lanka defeated India in an ODI series after 27 years. Sri Lanka won the three-match series with a 2-0.

The first match between India and Sri Lanka was a nail-biting tie. In this match, Sri Lanka played first and scored 230 runs while losing eight wickets. In response, India needed just one run off five balls with two wickets in hand, but the match took a dramatic turn as both wickets fell without scoring any runs.

In the second match, Sri Lanka defeated India by 32 runs, while in the last match, they defeated India by 110 runs.

Sri Lankan bowlers were a nightmare for Indian batters throughout the series. They were a step ahead of the batsmen. Sri Lankan spinners, especially Dunith Wellalage and Jeffrey Vandersay, were outstanding.

All credit should go to the coach, right? Interestingly, Pakistan’s former cricketer, Aqib Javed was their bowling coach. He was appointed as bowling coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team in March this year before the T20 World Cup 2024.

He is associated with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars.

From 1988 to 1998, he played 22 Test matches and 163 One-Day Internationals for Pakistan. He was also on the Pakistan team that won the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has met a delegation of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Qalandars Atif Rana met the PM with newly appointed Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi.

During the meeting, PM Khan wished the franchise good luck and predicted that they can win this edition of PSL.

Imran Khan said that the decision of making a young captain can be fruitful for the team. The youth has always made difference in changing the results.

PM has said that the franchise has adapted a unique style among the other franchises. Finding the talent from grass-root level is the USP of Qalandars.

On this occasion, the CEO Atif Rana informed the PM about the services of the franchise in the past while he also briefed him about the franchise’s future plans.

PM Khan said that the contribution of this talent hunt in the Kamyab Nojawan Programme is admirable.

Former cricketer Aqib Javed opposes PSL anthem

Former Pakistan Test cricketer Aqib Javed has said that every year a new anthem of Pakistan Super League (PSL) is unnecessary.

“There is no need for an advertising campaign; it is just a plain waste of money. Nobody wants to see singers,” the former head coach said while speaking to Geo News.

Javed said that money should not be wasted on songs, there is no star bigger than cricketers and fans want to see Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam, not singers.

“But now, fans come to watch Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and other cricketers in action. There’s no bigger star than the cricketers. People don’t come before the matches to see the singers,” he said.

He further added that now there is no need for publicity campaign. Fans want to see cricketers in action and the song “Groove Mera” which is popular should be permanent.

Speaking about his team’s anthems, he said the franchise had released several songs, but none of the songs were as famous as the first one.

He said that the proposal of PCB chairman Ramiz Raja to hold a four-nation cricket series was good.
