    Hazim Bangwar, Assistant Commissioner for North Nazimabad, Karachi, has responded to criticism on his unconventional attire at the Hum Style Awards.

    He asserted that he has carried his office “with respect and dignity and always dressed appropriately”, adding that no doctor or officer wears their uniforms outside their office.

    Hazim Bangwar, has often been the subject of attention on social media — but this time he is in the spotlight for a very ludicrous reason.

    He is not an average Pakistani Commissioner.

    In a world full of stereotypes, he is a gritty fashion icon with a unique sense of style. He has a passion for singing and has released a few songs too. He is often attending events including the red carpet premiere of Money Heist, Korea.

    And only recently, he made an appearance at the red carpet of Hum Style Awards in an all-black, sleek costume-like attire with a long, pleated neck piece.

    His edgy look was criticised on social media by one account— and former Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry.

    However, many people jumped in to support Hazim Bangwar.

    In all this debate, the question is: does one’s attire matter? Does wearing a crisp, white shalwar kameez with a waistcoat, or the finest of suits make one more diligent in their job?

    By all accounts, Hazim is doing a good job as Commissioner. Why then should we be bothered by his clothing choices, worn at a private event?

    Trolls really need to come to a grip with trying to dictate their choices onto public servants.

    The past month, Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar broke the internet with his larger than life personality and fashion choices. The government official has been a model, rapper and music producer in Hollywood.

    Bangwar showed up on Mathira’s show, where the former singer opened up about why he had decided to leave behind his career in Hollywood and come Pakistan to do his CSS. Bangwar revealed that it was the realization that he wanted to help his country that made him want to come back:
    “I completed my Bachelors in Fashion Marketing, my second degree was LLB. My mind would keep fluctuating between art and academia…Then I got signed to a music label. So I was travelling, limousines, first class, this and that…So when I came to Pakistan, reality would hit me. I’m first class in Emirates and here people would get pushed around while travelling on buses. I’m eating the best food from the best restaurants, and here people don’t have anything to eat. So I would ask myself ‘What am I doing?’ I was disconnected from reality, and somehow felt like I was wasting my time. So while I was on my break, I came back to Pakistan and decided to stop complaining and take action.”

    Bangwar also ta about how shocked other people in his life were when they found out about his decision to stay in Pakistan.
    “People would say to me ‘Why have you come back? You’re set in life go back! A government job?!’ Because of that I was absolutely determined to show them that why not? If someone wants to do something good for their country then why can’t they come back?”

    Restaurant shut down by Assistant Commissioner for refusing to give discount, claim owners

    Yak Grill in Gilgit has shared a post on their Instagram page revealing that their eatery had been sealed by Assistant Comissioner Gojal, Rao Rafy Afzal, because they had refused to give the administration a discount.
    In the caption, the owners revealed that they would be challenging this order in court and called out the AC for the corrupt practice.

    “AC Gojal Rao Rafy Afzal has illegally sealed Yakgrill restaurant in Passu, Gojal, Hunza due to the restaurant not providing discounts to the administration.
    He made electric heaters in the restaurant a base and sealed the restaurant. The right to operate a business and offer services is protected under the law, and it is important that these rights are upheld and respected.
    We will challenge this in court to restore our operation as soon as possible.
    Our restaurant will remain close till further notice .”

    In a video that is currently circulating on Twitter, AC Afzal can be seen in an argument with the owners.

    The Current reached out to AC Afzal who explained that the restaurant had broken Section 144, which is a law pertaining to using electric heaters. Upon inspection, the team had found electric heaters in use and thus gave orders to shut down the place.
    “The owners are spreading propaganda to hide the truth. We had imposed Section 144 CrPC on the use of electric heaters. On spot checking and inspection they were found using them. Thus, orders were given to seal the restaurant and to confiscate the heaters. Upon which the owner and his team used threatening and offensive language. They came up with this fake story to cover up. The owner is being prosecuted against under PPC for relevant offences.”

    On whether this Section has been imposed before on other restaurants before and why was this the issue to focus on, the AC responded that it was due to the electricity shortage problem which is why it was emphasized on.

    “This is enforced all over Gojal. There is shortage of electricity in Gojal. Which is why this was imposed.”

    Regarding whether Yak Grill and its owners were given a prior warning about their use of electric heaters before being sealed, the AC responded with:

    “The administration issues a notification/ order under Sec 144 CrPC which is displayed on social media and showcased at different places also. Individuals/ hotels/ restaurants can’t be sent such an order individually as it’s administratively impossible.

    It’s an open truth. Spot checking is done afterwards and legal action is taken. The notification/ order was passed on November 28th which has validity of 90 days.”

    First female Hindu officer assumes charge as Assistant Commissioner in Hassanabdal

    For the first time in the town’s history, a woman from a minority group has been selected as Hassanabdal’s assistant commissioner.

    The 27-year-old Dr Sana Ramchand Gulwani has taken over as the town’s administrator and AC.

    Dr Sana became the first female member of the Hindu community to pass the 2020 Central Superior Services (CSS) test and get accepted into the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS).

    She attended a local government school for her elementary and secondary education while growing up in the tiny village of Chak in Shikarpur, Sindh.

    Her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University was awarded to her in 2016. She continued her urology education after which she started studying for the CSS test.

    Her parents did not want her to see the administration, according to Dr Sana. Her career in medicine itself was the family’s long-held desire. She did, however, succeed in reaching both goals.

    Why are we so scared of people who aren’t afraid to be different?

    In a world full of moral policing and the constant battle between right and wrong, we get introduced to the newly-appointed Assistant Commissioner (AC) of North Nazimbad Karachi, Hazim Bangwar. The 29-year-old, commonly known as the ‘cool’ commissioner, has been called out for ‘imitating women’ as he carries himself in a certain way and because of his unique fashion sense, while others have been classifying him as transgender or even female.

    Bangwar is nothing like what one expects a bureaucrat in Pakistan to be like. Bureaucrats are generally considered serious and sober people who follow a particular dress code. Our mental image of a government servant is a man or a woman wearing spectacles, shalwar kameez or perhaps sunglasses. Some of the older lot wear smart suits with perfect ties.

    And here comes Bangwar, a breath of fresh air who defies the rules, looking like the most unconventional Assistant Commissioner in the country.

    Bangwar does not fit the bill of a traditional AC. This uber cool AC deviates from our conventional idea of masculinity and that is what people can’t digest. So we are forced to ask: why are we so scared of people who aren’t afraid to be different? Many people shared an alleged screenshot of a Twitter post supposedly made by Hazim in August 2018 that featured a rainbow flag with the tweet, “Happy Pride Month”. Hazim assured a news outlet that the post is “fake”. No such tweet can be found on Hazim’s official Twitter handle either.

    Where many were ready to rebuke him for his fashion sense and choice of living differently, there were others who said Bangwar was the change we all need. Many came out in support of the 29-year-old AC for his hard work and being a compassionate officer.

    Bangwar recently said that he can be judged by his work but whatever he does in his personal life has no bearing on his professional one. Nonetheless, the AC is being trolled online for allegedly being a transgender. Addressing the issue, he said that he is not a transgender but a male. However, the urge that people have shown to call him out as a woman or a transgender are rather offensive. One wonders: Is being a woman terrible? Or is being a third gender bad?

    In a world ready to put down people for being different, may we all learn to be unique and live our lives whichever way we like. Bangwar, through his unapologetically cool self, taught us that society and people need to change. Not you. Never you. Way to go, Bangwar!

    Special Assistant to Punjab’s Chief Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that she is a supporter of women empowerment and has always encouraged women to work. “I being a woman acknowledge the challenges women face in the world,” she said.

    However, while speaking so staunchly on women’s rights, she negated her own stance by saying that she was “also aware of the tactics women pull these days”.

    “I have my eye on the ones that are idle and wear ray-bans and only do modelling,” she told a Lahore News reporter.

    Previously a video of her insulting Assistant Commissioner (AC) Sialkot Sonia Sadaf, went viral on the social media. She was seen shouting at the AC, telling her that Sadaf was getting paid for her work and it was her duty to keep a check on things. She also asked the AC which ‘shameless person’ appointed her.
