    Good news if you are planning to apply for a scholarship!

    Australia’s University of Wollongong (UOW) has announced the commencement of Vice-Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarships for students in Pakistan.

    Sources in the Punjab Higher Education Commission spoke with APP, revealing that it is the first time that a reputable Australian university has introduced scholarships for Pakistan.

    Two Pakistani students will be awarded the scholarship every year, HEC sources have disclosed.

    Currently, more than 27,000 Pakistani students are studying in Australian universities, with approximately 1,000 of them studying at the UOW, HEC disclosed.

    World Cup 2023: South Africa defeat Australia by 134 runs

    Australia’s poor run continues at the World Cup with a massive defeat at the hands of South Africa on Thursday night.

    Before the match, played at Lucknow’s Ratanshree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and invited South Africa to bat first.

    Opening batsman Quinton de Kock and captain Temba Bavuma started the innings for South Africa, with a solid partnership of 108 runs, but then Bavuma was caught out after scoring 35 runs off Glenn Maxwell in the 20th over.

    De Kock was dismissed for 109 runs while Markram played an innings of 56 runs. Klaasen scored 29 runs, David Miller scored 17 runs and Marco Jensen scored 26 runs, thus South Africa scored 311 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the given 50 overs.

    For Australia, Mitchell Starc, and Glenn Maxwell took 2, 2 while Hazlewood, Cummins, and Zampa took one wicket each.

    The Australian top-order proved to be a wall of sand in the chase, with none of the batsmen being able to hold their own against the brilliant bowling of the African bowlers. Chasing a target of 312 runs, six Australian batsmen returned to the pavilion in short order.

    Marence Labushin put up a little resistance in front of the South African bowlers, but he too was out on 46 runs. Mitchell Starc put up 27, captain Pete Cummins 22, and Zampa scored 11 runs, so the entire Australian team was bowled out for 177 runs in the 41st over.

    On behalf of South Africa, Rabada dismissed three players by giving 33 runs in eight overs, while Marco Jensen, Keshav Maharaj and Tabriz Shamsi took two wickets each.

    On August 14th, a Malaysia Airlines flight from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur was forced to turn back when an agitated man claimed he had “explosives” in his backpack, Australian police said.

    The 45-year-old was arrested after the plane returned to Sydney and has been charged with one count of making a false statement about a threat to damage an aircraft.

    Videos of the man went viral where he can be seen praying on a prayer mat in the airplane’s aisle and repeatedly asking people if ‘they are a slave of Allah’.

    The Current has confirmed with multiple sources that the man is a former Pakistani model and actor, Muhammad Arif Ali. According to his LinkedIn profile, he graduated from NCA in 2002. He worked as an architect at a number of firms in Karachi and Lahore from 2002-2016.

    He was also featured in renowned Pakistani singer Abrar-ul-Haq’s song, “Preeto” and as an actor he was in a Pakistani sitcom, “Kollege Jeans”, which revolves around the campus life of the National College of Arts, directed by Jawad Bashir.

    Most of his entertainment industry friends say that they lost contact with him while one of our sources confirmed that, “I lost contact a long while ago but I heard that he has developed extremist views”.

    We followed his social media and here is what we found:

    His Behance profile as an architect was made in January 30th, 2012, where he shared different projects he worked on during his career.

    His Facebook profile is open and shows that he lives in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. People have started commenting on his public posts.

    His YouTube channel “food for thought” is made up of shorts and videos, mostly based on his religious views. The last video on August 12 2023.

    His Instagram profile was made in June 2014 and has a throwback video with his “Kollege Jeans” co-actors. His former colleagues and his lawyer say they hope he is given a psychological assessment and is dealt with in a fair manner, saying that he likely suffers from mental health issues.

    The World Test Championship (WTC) final saw Australia thrashing India on the fifth day, defeating them with a huge margin of 209 runs to lift the maze on Friday at The Oval in London. Unfortunately, both teams have been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for slow over-rate.

    The ICC declared that none of the players from the Indian team will receive their match fee. Meanwhile, the Australian team has been fined 80% of their match fee for slow over-rate.

    The Indian team reduced five overs, while the Australian team reduced four overs within the allotted time. According to ICC regulations, every player is fined for a slow over rate, with 20% of the match fee being imposed for each over.

    In addition, Indian opener Shubman Gill has also been fined. Gill criticized the umpire’s decision after getting out.

    Shubman Gill has been found guilty of violating ICC Article 2.4, resulting in a fine of 15% of the match fee.

    Australia had scored 469 runs in the first innings while the second innings was declared at 270 runs for 8 wickets after the Indian team was out by scoring 296 runs in the first innings.

    Pakistan beat New Zealand in the third encounter of One-Day International ternational (ODI) series against New Zealand last night and is now aiming to win the next two thrillers on Friday and Sunday so that they can vault from third to first spot on the ICC ODI Team Rankings.

    Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam stitched together a ninth century-partnership, also breaking the famous record of Muhammad Yousuf and Younis Khan’s partnership as Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 26 runs to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. At this time Pakistan is on number three in the rankings and just two wins away from the number one position.

    The two lads added 108 runs for the second wicket off 121 balls as Pakistan, put into bat, posted 287 for six on a slow surface. New Zealand capitulated after a solid and positive 83-run first wicket stand to be bowled out for 261 in 49.1 overs.

    With the series in their pocket 3-0 their first against New Zealand after 12 years Pakistan is super charge all eyes on Imam, Babar and Fakhar to take the team on the top of the ODI rankings now Pakistan have 3,133 points with 112 ratings in ODI rankings after the remaining Two wins they will white wash New Zealand first time and also make the history by becoming number 1 ODI team first time ever.

This meant the visitors needed 97 runs in the last 10 overs and despite fielding lapses. They managed only 70 runs to be dismissed for 261 in 49.1 overs.

    Opener Tom Blundell struck 78-ball 65 with seven fours featured in three useful partnerships. After adding 83 runs for the first wicket with Will Young (33), he added 30 runs from 40 balls for the second wicket with Daryl Mitchell (21) and 14 runs for the third wicket in 21 balls with Tom Latham (45).

    Debutant Cole McConchie scored 64 not out (45 balls, six fours, two sixes) and put on 25 runs (34 balls) for the sixth wicket with Latham, 31 runs (21 balls) for the seventh wicket with Adam Milne, 19 runs (14 balls) for the eighth wicket with Henry Shipley and 12 runs (9 balls) for the ninth wicket with Ish Sodhi.

    For Pakistan, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Wasim Junior and Shaheen Shah Afridi took two wickets apiece.

  • Unverified allegations against Babar Azam: Australian news outlet deletes story after PCB’s criticism

    An Australian news outlet posted an unverified and baseless story about Pakistan cricket team skipper Babar Azam. The publication accused the skipper of sexting to his teammate’s girlfriend. However, Fox cricket has now deleted the story after PCB slammed the news outlet for posting baseless stories.

     “As our media partner, you might have considered ignoring such unsubstantiated personal allegations which Babar Azam has not deemed worthy of a response,” the board tweeted from its official account.

    The story alleged that Babar Azam had sexted one of his teammate’s girlfriends and promised her that her boyfriend won’t be out of the team if she continues in that streak.

    However, the Pakistan cricket team captain has not commented on the allegations yet.

    Fox Cricket’s report stated “the account, which is a parody page, then removed the original tweet and explicitly apologized to Babar”.

    It should be mentioned here that a woman made severe accusations against the batter in November 2020 and requested that he be persecuted on suspicion of fraud and sexual harassment.

    A Lahore session court instructed the police to file a complaint against Babar. The Lahore High Court, however, suspended the order of the session court in 2021.

    What will happen if rain disrupts the Pak vs Eng final this Sunday?

    The much-awaited T20 World Cup final between Pakistan and England is set to be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia on November 13 (Sunday).

    As fans wait with baited breath for the clash of the titans, a bit of a dampener is developing on the horizon.

    The match is expected to be washed out by rain.

    According to the Bureau of Meteorology of the Australian Government, there is a 95 per cent chance that Sunday will bring showers (8 to 20 mm). To make matters worse, Monday’s outlook is the same as Sunday’s. That is bad news for the 90,000 fans expected to show up at the stadium for the clash.

    Under tournament playing conditions, if the final is abandoned, no result is possible or if a Super Over cannot be completed after a tie, “the teams shall be declared joint winners”.

    There is another possibility that the final could be reduced to as short as a 10-overs-a-side game, even if the reserve day is activated in case of rain. It is pertinent to mention that in the semis and final, both teams must bat for a minimum of 10 overs to constitute a game.

    Whether a match is resumed in the revised conditions is the key in determining how the game would continue on Monday at 3 pm, the scheduled starting time.

    Prior to this, three T20 World Cup matches at the iconic MCG have already been abandoned due to bad weather.

    In the 2002 Champions Trophy tournament, both Sri Lanka and India were declared winners because the final match couldn’t be completed in the two days allocated to it due to rain.
