    Pak Suzuki suffers worst sales decline, sells less than 1,000 cars in February

    Recent reports indicate that Pak Suzuki Motors has experienced a significant decline in sales due to production issues. The company has recorded its worst sales performance in history, mainly because of a shortage of production parts and rising raw material costs.

    Reports reveal that Pak Suzuki sold fewer than 1,000 units in February, marking its worst performance since the country’s COVID-19 lockdowns in April 2020 when production and sales came to a halt. In January, the automaker sold 2,940 vehicles, a significant 74 per cent decrease in monthly sales. This was attributed to the poor sales of the Suzuki Alto, which declined from 6,898 units in December 2022 to 44 units in January 2023.

    The official figures from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) are yet to arrive, but the total units sold in February are expected to range from the high tens to low hundreds.

    Despite being among the highest-selling automobile brands in the country, Pak Suzuki’s recent sales decline has left it struggling to maintain its position in the fiercely competitive industry. The drop in Suzuki sales is attributed to production part issues, which have caused difficulty in obtaining necessary auto parts due to major supply chain issues caused by the pandemic. As a result, the company has faced a shortage of raw materials and production parts.

    Global inflation has further exacerbated the problem, leading to a rise in the prices of raw materials and an increase in the car prices. This inflation has further contributed to a drop in sales as it has become difficult for the company to access all the required materials.

    Honda’s mini-SUV, the HR-V is finally approaching its second generation. The upcoming model will have some significant upgrades from styling to engine performance.

    It will be bulkier, futuristic, and more powerful than the previous model, with better looks than the smaller, hybrid-only European variant introduced in 2021.

    VEZEL and HR-V confusion

    For those who may not know, the original name for ‘Honda Vezel’ is ‘Honda HR-V’. This hybrid vehicle has become quite famous in Pakistan for its good looks and impressive fuel consumption despite being an expensive completely built-up (CBU) unit. It is mostly witnessed with a ‘Vezel’ badging instead of ‘HR-V’ here.

    The Japanese automaker said that the new subcompact SUV will be based on the same platform as the international Honda Civic variants. It has a longer wheelbase than before, and the rear suspension is now independent.

    Engine and Performance

    One important thing Honda revealed about the powertrain is that it will be a more responsive engine as compared to the prior one, which might be the Civic’s 180-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four, replacing the existing HR-V’s 141-horsepower 1.8-liter inline-four.

    The HR-V’s engine for the base model could be the naturally aspirated 158-hp 2.0-liter inline-four from the Civic’s lower trim levels. Front-wheel drive will almost certainly be standard, with all-wheel drive as an option, and a CVT automatic transmission will almost certainly be the only transmission option. A hybrid HR-V is also expected to enter the lineup, though it may arrive later than the fuel-only model.

    Honda has not officially revealed any photographs or details of the HR-V’s interior, however, it will be exciting to see how the new platform will affect its packaging. As the fuel tank was positioned behind the front seats, the previous HR-V, like the Fit, had a surprisingly low cargo floor.

    The LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L variants from the current model are anticipated to continue over. Honda also published a video showcasing the new HR-V in a variety of colours, including red, silver, black, and white. Unfortunately, there is no official statement released by the company regarding its price and availability in other regions.

    Many cricketers and fans wished the cricket superstar. Boom Boom Afridi thanked his fans, friends and former colleagues on social media by individually responding to their tweets.

    Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar also wished Afridi on Twitter and wrote, “Happy Birthday @SAfridiOfficial . Ab toh sahi wali bata day lala.”

    Afridi thanked his former teammate and said: “Thank you Shabi…Time is running brother ”

    Akhtar later deleted his tweet.

    According to ESPNcricinfo, Afridi revealed in his autobiography “Game Changer” that he was born in 1975. However, Afridi’s official date of birth is March 1, 1980.
