Haroon Shahid, Faysal Quraishi call out PTV Sports for body shaming Azam Khan

Faysal Quraishi and singer turned actor Haroon Shahid took to social media to share an insensitive post by Pakistan Television (PTV) Sports’ official social media account, which posted a picture of Azam Khan with a caption that read: “Khata hai lekin lagata nahin.”

Faysal turned to Instagram stories and wrote: “Shame on you @ptvsportspk.”

Similarly, Haroon took to Instagram stories, saying: “Not a joke. At first I thought it’s a fake page running under the name of PTV sports. To my surprising, it wasn’t,” adding, “Is this how we are going to ridicule our players.”

National High-Performance Centre batting coach Mohammad Yousuf said wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan can’t look to hit sixes all the time.

He added that Azam has to learn to assess match situations and see what the team needs him to do and what approach he has to take.

Azam, who is the son of former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan, recently made his international debut as he featured in the first T20 International against England on Friday.

In the match, which Pakistan won by 31 runs, he made five runs off three balls, which included a boundary.

In the second T20 International, Azam only made one run as Pakistan was beaten by 45 runs.

The 22-year-old was called up to the national team on the back of strong performances in domestic cricket.

In the Pakistan Cup, he accumulated 186 runs in seven games for Sindh, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 46.50 and a strike rate of 124.83.

As for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he scored 174 runs in 10 matches for the Quetta Gladiators at an average of 17.40 and a strike rate of 133.84.

“Hitting sixes is important in T20s, but a proper batsman has to look at the match situation first and foremost and also look at what the team needs,” Yousuf told a Pakistani media outlet.

Meanwhile, netizens are also trolling Azam with insensitive memes on social media. Hashtag Azam Khan fat was also trending on Twitter.

The three-match T20 series is now tied at 1-1 and the decider will be held on Tuesday.

VIDEO: Dale Steyn jams with Azam Khan

South African fast bowler Dale Steyn was recently seen jamming with team fellow Azam Khan from Quetta Gladiators.

The duo, who played for the Quetta Gladiators this season, went live on Steyn’s Instagram account during which Azam sang Coldplay’s Yellow while strumming along on his guitar.

Fans of both the players loved the sweet bonding session, with many saying that it highlighted the other side of the PSL — the friendships and bonds forged after weeks of playing together.

Steyn had recently sparked controversy after he remarked that playing in PSL and Lanka Premier League (LPL) is more rewarding that playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“I [feel] that playing in these other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player. I think when you go to IPL, there are such big squads and so many big names and so much emphasis on maybe the amount of money players earn and everything like that, so sometimes, somewhere down the line, cricket gets forgotten,” Steyn had said.

“When you come to like a PSL or the Sri Lanka Premier League (SPL), for that matter, there is an importance on the cricket. I have only been here for a couple of days and I have had people in and out of my room, just wanting to know about where I have played and how I went about it. Whereas, when I go to something like IPL that gets forgotten and the main topic is how much money did you go for in this IPL?”

“That’s just me being brutally honest,” he added.

However, the South African legend later issued a clarification over his comments saying that he had not intended to degrade, insult or compare any of the cricket leagues. He had received a lot of hate from Indian fans.

“Social media and words out of context can often do that. My apologies if this has upset anyone,” Steyn had said.

Meanwhile, Shadab Khan and Azam Khan were concerned about Asim’s revelation, with Shadab asking if “this batsman is available for PSL” and Khan asking Azhar to stop stealing his job.

However, Azhar Ali gave Asim’s batting a thumbs up.

Given his batting technique, we have to admit that Asim ain’t lying – the Tum Tum star does have the right moves for the field.

  • Fact Check: ‘Shah Mahmood Qureshi slaps principal secretary for not letting him see PM Imran’

Claim: Shah Mahmood Qureshi (SMQ) slapped PM Khan’s Principal Secretary Azam Khan.

Fact: SAPM Shabaz Gill, PTI Focal Person on Digital Media Arsalan Khalid and SMQ have refuted the claim.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill has rebutted news reports claiming that Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is reportedly in hot water over his statement that strained ties between Islamabad and Riyadh, has slapped a top bureaucrat over his refusal to let the minister into PM Imran Khan’s office.

A private media outlet had earlier in the day claimed that a scuffle broke out between FM Qureshi and PM Imran’s Principal Secretary Azam Khan after the latter, earlier this week, barred the minister from entering the premier’s office, leading to a spat.

Citing sources, Abb Tak news had reported that Qureshi slapped the senior bureaucrat and entered PM Imran’s office. “He also complained to the premier about the principal secretary’s behaviour,” the report had claimed.

With the claim going viral on Tuesday evening, Dr Gill broke silence, saying that the government would also be approaching the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) against the television channel.

He also tweeted to urge the channel to act responsibly when it came to reporting about prominent individuals such as the FM and the principal secretary.

Qureshi has also reportedly rebutted the claim. “I have not slapped Azam Khan,” he was quoted as saying by a private media outlet later in the day.

It is pertinent to note that the report comes a day after a foreign media outlet claimed that Qureshi was likely to lose his post and be replaced by Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari as the government and military mend ties with Saudi Arabia.

The claim had been denied by Focal Person to the PM on Digital Media Dr Arslan Khalid.
