‘She didn’t mention which Khan’: Azma Bokhari’s inappropriate attack on Bushra Bibi draws criticism

Punjab’s Minister for Information, Azma Bokhari, has come under severe criticism on social media for her recent highly inappropriate and misogynistic press conference against the former first lady, Bushra Bibi.

She referred to Bibi’s speech during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests when she said that she would not leave the dharna without the incarcerated former prime minister and her husband, Imran Khan – implying that they would not leave until Khan was free.

“She said she would not be back from Islamabad without Khan, but she did not mention Imran Khan. So what is all the fuss about?” the minister said.

“If she didn’t mention Imran Khan, that is because she went back with many Khans. Ali Amin Gandapur is also a Khan, and there were many other Khans with her,” stated the provincial minister.

Bokhari’s press conference was held after PTI remained unsuccessful in having a rally in Islamabad that started on November 24 –  a move deemed as the party’s “final call” to push the government to agree to the party’s terms.

One social media user wrote, “The more they abuse, troll and vulgar talk, the more points they get in Maryam’s weekly evaluation chart.” Another X user commented, “@AzmaBokhariPMLN, this is so below the belt, you wouldn’t like it if the other sides throw stones at your glasshouses.”

Bushra Bibi had taken a central role in leading the PTI caravan to the federal capital from Peshawar; however, around midnight of November 26, the entire PTI leadership was nowhere to be seen as the security forces launched a crackdown on the protestors.

Media outlets quickly reported that Bushra Bibi, along with the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur, had left for Peshawar through Haripur, while the PTI supporters on social media denied these reports at the time.

PTI supporters on social media have been strongly criticising the entire PTI leadership for abandoning the people in the dark in Islamabad as the government launched a crackdown.

The political situation in the country became tense over the last few days as protestors defied the government’s warning not to enter Islamabad while violent clashes took place between the PTI protestors and security forces, leading to multiple casualties.

The government also deployed the Pakistan Army after violent clashes led to the deaths of Rangers personnel. A notification issued by the Interior Ministry said that the army was authorised to impose a curfew in any locality deemed necessary to maintain law and order.

Interestingly, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi blamed a “secret hand” for failed negotiations with the PTI protestors, saying, “The PTI leadership wants to hold talks, but a secret hand is controlling the party, and it is stronger than all others. They have some other motives.”

Naqvi’s comments came after reports claimed that PTI leadership, including founder Imran Khan, had approved shifting the protest to Sangjani amid violent clashes. The same was not accepted by Bushra Bibi, who said she would continue leading protesters to D-Chowk till she had spoken to her husband herself.

Shahzeb Khanzada schools Info Minister Azma Bukhari for threatening journalists

Veteran journalist Shahzeb Khanzada scolded Punjab Information Minister Azma Zahid Bokhari in his show over her threat to journalists before a press conference held by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz addressing the matter of the alleged ‘rape’ case of Punjab Group of College.

Azma Zahid Bokhari on Tuesday, while threatening journalists, stated, “If anyone creates a nuisance in the press conference, I will not spare anyone, and my complaint means you have to face difficulties in your employment.”

Later, the Information Minister clarified her statement on X (formerly Twitter) by saying that her video clip was not fully shared.

Responding to the open threat, Shahzeb Khanzada, on his programme, criticised the Information Minister, saying, “Aap hath jor kar karain ya buland awaz ma karain, ap tameez se karain ya badtameezi say karain, dhamki tu dhamki huti hai.”

“Who are you to threaten journalists,” he questioned.

Khanzada highlighted the double standard of the Information Minister, stating that when they (indirectly named PML-N) are in opposition, they stand with journalists, but once they form the government, they show their true colours.

On the other hand, Azma Bokhari told journalists at the Lahore High Court (LHC) that there would be no more pampering.

“Jo mujhy meri auqaat bataty hain un ko pehly apni auqaat dekhni chahiye,” she added.

Responding to a journalist’s question, she replied, “Now there is no brotherhood and no pampering.”

  • Over 20 PTI workers arrested in Lahore, Azma Bokhari claims they attacked police

Over 20 PTI workers arrested in Lahore, Azma Bokhari claims they attacked police

More than 20 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were detained by Lahore police for holding a corner meeting in Gulberg area of the city.

While the party claims to be preparing for the upcoming procession in Lahore, Gulberg police said that the PTI workers pelted stones and opened fire when police officials arrived.

The police van was damaged in the violence, the police claimed.

Punjab’s Information Minister Azma Bokhari also shared videos on X (formerly Twitter) calling out “Tehreek-e-Fisad” (movement of chaos).

Azma wrote that the “Gangsters of this movement of chaos have already started burning and encircling the roads, now if we take action against them, they will start crying in protest.”

Taking a jibe at PTI’s leadership, who are repeatedly asking people to stay peaceful, Azma shared several videos on social media captioning that these people are rooming around Main Boulevard Gulbarg in Lahore, “Listen to the peaceful speeches of their so-called leaders while actually this is their real face.”

  • Fayyaz ul Hassan offers to hold a joint press conference with Azma Bokhari

Fayyaz ul Hassan offers to hold a joint press conference with Azma Bokhari

Punjab’s Provincial Minister for Prisons Fayyazul Hassan Chohan and Secretary Information Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Azma Bokhari had an interesting exchange outside the Punjab Assembly earlier today.

Fayyaz Chohan offered to hold a joint press conference in the Punjab Assembly with Azma Bokhari.

“Azma sahiba can talk openly against our government and then it shall be my turn to comment on her party [PML-N],” said Fayyaz laughingly.

Azma Bokhari said she should be allowed to answer him point-by-point. Chohan Fayyaz said it would not be possible.

On being asked by a reporter as to why the two individuals weren’t ready to do a joint press conference, Azma said, ” He [Fayyaz] should resign from his ministry, and stand beside me and hold a press conference as today’s presser is the Opposition’s.” Azma further added that she would happily welcome him [Fayyaz] and present him with a garland if he resigns and joins the Opposition.

“I offered her [Azma] to speak first because I personally respect her,” said Fayyaz.

Fayyaz Chohan later took to Twitter and said, “I offered Azma Bokhari to hold a joint press conference today, I was ready to give her the first turn but Azma did not dare accept.”

To which Azma tweeted, “I asked you to resign. You are not destined to stand beside me.”

  • PML-N’s Azma Bokhari reveals Maryam Nawaz’s hotel room number during a terror threat

A day after the Balochistan government requested the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to postpone its rally in Quetta due to terror threats, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N)’s former member of the Punjab provincial assembly (MPA), Azma Bokhari posted a video on social media revealing Maryam Nawaz’s room number and suite name. While shaking the door handle of the room, next a sign which clearly states the name of the suite and the number, Azma says, “…yeh lock aur darwaza InshaAllah salamat rahe ga, agar kisi ko adventure karne ka shauq hai tou hum yahan hi hain” (this room is locked, and if anyone wants to have an adventure, we will be waiting right here).

The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued a terror threat for Peshawar and Quetta, saying that banned militant outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is planning terrorist activities in the two cities. The statement reads that the TTP is aiming to target religious and political parties in possibly bomb attacks or suicide bombings.

Azma Bokhari seems to be alluding to the recent arrest of Captain Safdar from his hotel room in Karachi, suggesting that the workers of the party are on high alert and will be there to counter any potential ‘middle of the night’ arrest in Quetta.

The PML-N former MPA was previously involved in another ‘video war’ with members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, over the price of aata in her area.

PDM lead by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Maulana Fazalur Rehman, PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz and the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has done two successful jalsas, one in Gujranwala and another in Karachi but there is some speculation about cracks within the opposition.

  • VIDEO: Punjab govt sends bags of atta to PML-N Azma Bokhari’s house amid wheat crisis

VIDEO: Punjab govt sends bags of atta to PML-N Azma Bokhari’s house amid wheat crisis

The country is facing one of the biggest wheat crises in Pakistan’s history with a bag of atta costing a record high of Rupees 75 per KG. Amid the wheat crisis, PML-N’s member of the Punjab Assembly (MPA) Azma Bokhari was engaged in a heated debate on a television talk show with the Chairman of Punjab Food Authority and PTI MPA Umer Tanveer Butt.

PML-N’s Azma Bokhari telling PTI’s Omar Tauseef to send a bag of atta to her house since she was unable to find it in Model Town

Azma said that there was a wheat crisis in the country and Umer refused to accept it, saying there was no shortage. Azma then said that if there was no shortage, then he could send a bag of atta to her house.

We called Azma to confirm the following story. She says that when she woke up this morning, she was told by the cook in her house that a truck had come with bags of atta. The bags were being unloaded outside her house and her cook told her that he had bought a bag from them for Rs. 790 a bag. Others living on the street had also come by to buy bags of atta.

Bags of atta were dropped outside Azma’s house by Umer

Azma says that she went out and asked the people unloading the bags to take the bags and leave. They said that they had “been instructed” to leave the bags outside her house and sell it to people living in the area. She ordered them to leave her property and says that this was an attempt to “harass” her.

But according to Food and Authority Chairman Umer Tauseef, who was on the program with Azma, they weren’t harassing her and that she is “once again, using the harassment card”.

Umer says that she asked for a bag of atta on the show, saying that people in Model Town were not finding atta anywhere. He says that there is no wheat crisis and therefore, bags are available everywhere and to prove his point, he sent bags of atta to her house so people living in Model Town could have access to it.

When asked if PTI was trying to divert attention from the real issues, like a looming wheat crisis, he said that this was, “PML-N’s propaganda machine” at work and challenged to show him “one place where atta is not available”. He denied that there was any wheat crisis and said that the prices had increased due to the fact that the government had removed subsidies from certain forms of wheat.

Umer Tanveer is denying that there is a wheat crisis but other ministers of the PTI have stated that there is a shortage of wheat in the country.
