  • Babar Azam becomes ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for consecutive second time

Babar Azam, captain and standout batsman of Pakistan team, was named the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODI) Player of 2022 on Thursday, taking home the prestigious title for the second year in a row.

In the year 2022 Azam amassed 679 runs from just nine games at an average of 84.87, including three hundreds in ODI matches.
Adam Zampa of Australia, Shai Hope of the West Indies, and Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe were also contenders for the honour.

“If you thought the Pakistan skipper had a year to remember in ODI cricket in 2021, then what he produced during 2022 was even better as the ultra-consistent right-hander maintained his lead as the No.1 ranked batter on the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings,” the ICC said in a press release.

Stating that the Babar has firmly held on to the title since July 2021, ICC said that in his current form, the batsman has no intention of letting go easily.
“It might be surprising to note that Babar only played nine ODI matches in 2022, but the 28-year-old made them count as he smashed three centuries, a further five half-centuries and only really failed with the bat on one occasion,” the cricket governing body said, lavishing praise on the Pakistani batsman.

  • Unverified allegations against Babar Azam: Australian news outlet deletes story after PCB’s criticism

An Australian news outlet posted an unverified and baseless story about Pakistan cricket team skipper Babar Azam. The publication accused the skipper of sexting to his teammate’s girlfriend. However, Fox cricket has now deleted the story after PCB slammed the news outlet for posting baseless stories.

“As our media partner, you might have considered ignoring such unsubstantiated personal allegations which Babar Azam has not deemed worthy of a response,” the board tweeted from its official account.

The story alleged that Babar Azam had sexted one of his teammate’s girlfriends and promised her that her boyfriend won’t be out of the team if she continues in that streak.

However, the Pakistan cricket team captain has not commented on the allegations yet.

Fox Cricket’s report stated “the account, which is a parody page, then removed the original tweet and explicitly apologized to Babar”.

It should be mentioned here that a woman made severe accusations against the batter in November 2020 and requested that he be persecuted on suspicion of fraud and sexual harassment.

A Lahore session court instructed the police to file a complaint against Babar. The Lahore High Court, however, suspended the order of the session court in 2021.

The accusation was first posted by verified Twitter account Dr Nimo Yadav, saying: “Babar Azam sexting with GF of another Pakistan cricketer and promising her that her bf won’t be out of the team if she keeps sexting with him is just.”

Babar posted a happy snap while appearing to be on holiday in Sydney on Monday.

“Doesn’t take too much to be happy,” he captioned the photo with the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background.

Pakistani cricket fans took to their social media and started supporting Babar Azam after the video and photos went viral on social media. The alleged viral video of Babar caused a stir among the netizens. Babar Azam breaks Mohammad Yousuf’s 16 years old record

Babar, made the new record during the first innings of the first Test against New Zealand in Karachi.

After surpassing Mohammad Yousuf’s total of 2435 runs in 2006, Babar Azam currently owns the record for the most runs scored by a Pakistani batter in a single year. Babar is currently batting on 54* and has 2477 runs across all formats in 2022.

He now owns the record of being the highest Pakistan run scorer in one calendar year. Previously, Mohammad Yousaf made the record in 2006 with 2435 runs.

  • PAK vs ENG: Saud Shakeel’s dismissal sparks debate on social media

PAK vs ENG: Saud Shakeel’s dismissal sparks debate on social media

The middle-order batter Saud Shakeel was given out during a vital stage of the second Test match against England, sparking yet another controversy on social media.

The left-hander nicked Mark Wood’s delivery on the leg-side, which was saved by wicket-keeper Ollie Pope with a fully extended dive. He was just six runs away from a magnificent century.

Field umpires also awarded Saud Shakeel the benefit of the doubt since it was evident from the action replay that the ball impacted the ground. But the TV Umpire was asked to look into the situation.

The third empire gave him out despite the review indicating that the ball struck the ground first, shocking spectators and the Pakistan team.

Speaking to the media after the match, Babar revealed that everyone, including him, in the dressing room felt the ball had touched the ground.

“The Shakeel dismissal cost us,” he said. “It looked to us as if the ball had touched the ground. As a professional, you have to respect the umpire’s decision, but we felt the ball had been grounded.”

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also questioned the third umpire’s decision on his Twitter account, saying “Thought I saw a little bit of the ball hitting the ground with that last dismissal. What another great Test match.”

ESPNcricinfo also questioned the decision and asked on its official Twitter account, “Was that a clean catch by Pope?”

A number of fans believe that it was a “clear not out” and the issue has sparked plenty of debate on social media.

Gen (r) Bajwa watches Pak vs England Test in Pindi

The former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa, watched the fourth day of the first Test series between Pakistan and England on Sunday in Rawalpindi.

The recently retired COAS handed over the military’s command to General Asim Munir earlier this week, marking the end of his six-year extended tenure.

Having taken a 78-run lead in the runfest, England declared their second innings on 264-7 to set Pakistan an improbable victory target of 343 with four sessions to go.

Harry Brook (87), Joe Root (73), and Zak Crawley (50) scored half-centuries for the visitors. While, the Shaheens: Naseem Shah, Mohammad Ali, and Zahir Mahmood claimed two wickets each for Pakistan.

A day earlier, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam became the seventh batsman to smash a century.

Last week, the Ben Stokes-led England cricket team finally embarked on their historic Test tour of Pakistan for the first time since 2005.

Twitterati shared pictures of the ex-army chief at the Pindi cricket stadium.

Video: Babar Azam reveals his favouite batter, Hint: It isn’t Kohli

Pakistani Skipper Babar Azam has revealed his favourite batter in an interview with former English captain Nasser Hussain. To our surprise, it isn’t Virat Kohli, who Babar has praised many times.

“To be honest, my role model is AB de Villiers. I love him, especially with the way he plays his shots. So, when I saw him batting on television, the very next day I tried to play similar shots in the nets and on the ground. I try my best to copy and play like AB de Villiers because he is my idol.”
“My father supported me a lot,” he said, adding that when he was a child, his father used to take him to the cricket ground. “He played a crucial role in my learning the game. He monitored my performance,” said Babar.

In the interview Babar also discussed Pakistan’s preparations ahead of their Test series with England.

  • Pakistani Twitter defends PM Shehbaz against former Irfan Pathan’s remarks

Pakistani Twitter defends PM Shehbaz against former Irfan Pathan’s remarks

Former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan continues his Twitter tirade against Pakistan cricket fans after he turned his guns towards Pakistani Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif.

After the England team crushed Indians in the T20 World Cup semi-finals, the premier wrote an interesting tweet, writing, “So, this Sunday, it’s: 152/0 vs 170/0″, he said in reference to the scores of Pakistan and England against Indian cricket team in T20 World Cups of 2021 and 2022, respectively. Both teams defeated India without losing a single wicket.

But the premier’s tweet didn’t sit well with Indian cricket fans. Replying to PM Shehbaz’s tweet, on the eve of World Cup final, Pathan said, “Aap mein or hum mein fark yehi hai. Hum apni khushi se khush or aap dusre ke taklif se. Is liye khud ke mulk ko behtar karne pe dhyan nahi hai.” (This is the difference between you and us. We are satisfied with our happiness, while you look for happiness when others are in trouble. That is why you are not concentrating on your country’s well-being).

Pathan, who has criticised Pakistan’s cricket team and fans in the past, was taken to task by Twitterati with many of them calling him a “hypocrite”.

Earlier, the Indian bowler came under fire after he cracked a joke at the expense of the Pakistani cricket team during the ongoing T20 World Cup taking place in Australia.

On Wednesday, when Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 7 wickets and booked a place for themselves in the final of the tournament, Pathan tweeted that while Pakistan won the match, they still have no “grace”.

After receiving the backlash, Irfan tweeted again and clarified that his comment was not meant for Pakistani players.

Babar Azam’s father hopeful for son’s comeback, prays for Pakistan’s win ahead of PAK vs NZ semi-final

Azam Siddique, the father of Pakistan captain Babar Azam, has extended his best wishes and prayers to his son and Pakistan team ahead of their decisive T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against New Zealand.

Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by five wickets on Sunday to advance to the final four of the big tournament. However, defeating the Tigers would not have been enough to move the Men in Green to the next round, since they required either Zimbabwe to defeat India or the Netherlands to defeat South Africa.

On Sunday, Fortune backed Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval. The Europeans defeated the Proteas by 13 runs, paving the way for the 2009 World T20 champions.

Before the crucial encounter, the captain’s father took to his official Instagram account to wish the green shirts success.

So far, the ongoing T20 World Cup has not gone well for Babar. The hitter has struggled to score big for his team, scoring only 39 runs in five Super 12 matches.

However, with his name and track record, he cannot be counted off right away.

On Wednesday, November 9, Pakistan will face the runners-up from last year at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Moreover, on Thursday, November 10, India will face England in the second semi-final of the major event at the Adelaide Oval.
