    Bakhtawar’s nikkah dress took over 7000 hours to make

    Karachi-based fashion designer Wardha Saleem who designed Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari’s nikkah outfit has revealed that the jora took over 7000 hours to make.

    In a recent interview with BBC Urdu, the designer shared the process that went behind designing the gold outfit and also addressed rumours surrounding the dress.

    “She [Bakhtawar] was very clear what she wanted,” revealed Wardha, adding that the bride wanted to wear a colour combination similar to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s white and gold wedding dress but also wanted it to reflect her own personality.

    Addressing rumours of using gold and diamonds in the outfit, Wardah said: “Neither did we use a gold wire nor did we put in diamonds on this dress.”

    “It was made with locally sourced fine material that is available for any designer to use,” stated Wardha.

    The designer also revealed that 90 craftsmen were involved in making the dress and that it took over 7000 hours to complete because it all the embroidery was done with the hand.

    “If you calculate in normal working hours this goes to about 6 to 7 months,” said Wardha, adding that the craftsmen worked in double shifts of 24 hours, reducing the preparation time to two and a half months.

    Wardha further said that Bakhtawar was the dream bride as she was very cooperative and did not interfere in the process, adding that she had complete trust in her [Wardha].

    The designer also revealed that she also designed Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari’s outfits for Bakhtawar’s mehndi and reception.

    Meanwhile, Bakhtawar’s makeup artist Shamain also opened up about her nikkah look saying: “It was a pleasure to be the wedding makeup artist for the delightful Bakhtawar.”

    “Bakhtawar requested subtle and glowing looks, that felt very much in line with who she is. Getting to know Bakhtawar in the process, and her genuine love for art and culture, I was inspired to create a natural glowing look, which was complemented by sleek, modern hair- stylish and standout, like the lovely bride herself,” said Shamain further.

    Bakhtawar and Mahmood Choudhry tied the knot on January 29 in an intimate nikkah ceremony at Bilawal House. The nikkah was preceded by a mehndi and followed by a grand reception.

    Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari and Mahmood Choudhry’s intimate nuptials is all social media can talk about – more because details and pictures from the event were limited. Now that the festivities have wrapped up, the newlyweds are sharing snippets from their wedding on social media.

    After Zara Shahjahan and Bakhtawar gave us a close up of her mehndi dress, designer Haris Ahmed has revealed the process that went behind making Bakhtawar’s reception jora, adding that it required “over 800 hours” to make.

    Sharing a lovely picture of the bride and groom, Ahmed said the outfit “harmoniously blends ace craftsmanship with the utmost design precision to create [a] look that [is] the epitome of elegance and truly timeless in appeal.”

    “Our team worked over 800 development hours to bring this precious masterpiece, defined by the finest quality of hand-woven couture produced by zardozi “the art of gold sewing”, layered with the sucha gota “real gota” and [an] intricate twist of glistening threads that accentuate the design and reflects creativity that reinvents the traditional aesthetic,” added the designer.

    Ahmed also shared a picture of the outfit as it was being prepared in the workshop.

    In a separate post, the designer revealed that the Brunswick green pure raw silk and chiffon ensemble was hand embellished with sucha (pure) heavy gota work.

    Meanwhile, Bakhtawar shared a video from her muun dikhayi and a colourful picture from her mehndi on social media.

    Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has shared an unseen family photo from Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari’s wedding celebrations while wishing his sister Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari on her birthday.

    The picture which also features Bakhtawar’s husband Mahmood Choudhry shows Bilawal and Aseefa enjoying a light moment as the bride and groom pose for the photograph.

    Bilawal also shared pictures of himself and his siblings from their childhood and one of him and Aseefa with their late mother Benazir Bhutto in the post.

    Similarly, Bakhtawar also shared an old picture with Aseefa while wishing her on social media.

    Meanwhile, newlyweds Bakhtawar and Mahmood visited Garhi Khuda Baksh in Larkana, days after their wedding. Bakhtawar shared pictures their visit on social media.

    Garhi Khuda Bakhsh is a small village in Ratodero, notable for the Bhutto family mausoleum, where Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Murtaza Bhutto, Nusrat Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto are buried.

    Bakhtawar and Mahmood tied the knot on January 29 in an intimate nikkah ceremony at Bilawal House. The nikkah was preceded by a mehndi and followed by a grand reception. While pictures and other details from the wedding festivities were limited considering the ‘no cellphone’ policy at the event, Bakhtawar while thanking everyone for their prayers and wishes, had promised that the couple “will be sharing [their] joy” with their wellwishers through the moments captured.

    Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari and Mahmood Choudhry’s wedding extravaganza over the weekend is all anyone can talk about. The two tied the knot in an intimate nikkah ceremony on January 29 with a wedding reception the next day. Pictures and details from the wedding festivities are limited considering there was a no cellphone policy at the event and guests were also limited because of COVID-19 SOPs.

    However, while thanking everyone for their prayers and wishes, the bride promised that the couple “will be sharing [their] joy” with their wellwishers through the moments captured.

    Staying true to their word, Bakhtawar and Mahmood shared pictures of themselves from their mehndi night on social media. While the groom donned a cream shalwar kameez with a shawl for the occasion, the bride glowed in a red and green outfit by Zara Shahjahan. Bakhtawar also shared a closeup of her outfit to show the details which included a tribute to her late mother Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

    The dupatta was embroidered with the poem, ‘Woh ladki laal qalandar’ and Bakhtawar also held a pouch an embroidered portrait of Benazir on it.

    Speaking to a local media outlet, the designer shared that the “lehnga had patchworks of Sindhi embroidery and mirrors” on it. She further revealed that the embellishments on the shirt “were worked with flowers and at the centre of every flower, we embroidered Bakhtawar and Mahmood’s names.”

    “It was all done very minutely which is why it isn’t easily visible in the photographs,” she added.

    The couple had earlier also shared glimpses of their nikkah ceremony.

    Mahmood also shared a picture of himself tying his own turban saying: “Gentlemen always tie your own pugree.”

    UAE Minister for Culture Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan also flew to Pakistan to attend the reception.

    Bakhtawar and Mahmood got engaged in an intimate ceremony in November 2020 at Bilawal House. Bilawal was unable to attend the event since he had tested positive for coronavirus at that time and was in quarantine.

    Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari and Mahmood Y Choudhry have said their qubool hais and have officially tied the knot.

    Sharing pictures from the wedding on social media, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari expressed his happiness over the occasion and remembered his late mother Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

    “Happiest moment in many years to see my sister Bakhtawar getting married,” wrote Bilawal on Twitter. “Felt like our mother was watching over us in this moment of joy.”

    “Wishing them both all the best of for their new life together. Masha’Allah!,” he added.

    Similarly, sharing a lovely picture of the bride and groom, Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari wrote: “Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and joy. Mubarak Mubarak.”

    “I love you, my dear sister. I wish you a happy married life,” she added.

    Bakhtawar glowed in a gold outfit by Wardah Saleem.

    The event was a lavish affair will an elaborate menu.

    Later, the groom also shared pictures from the wedding on social media.

    The nikkah ceremony is expected to be followed by a baraat reception on Saturday, January 30. According to a spokesperson of Bilawal House, close to a thousand guests have been invited to the reception. Invitations have reportedly also been sent to important political leaders of the country including military leaders and judicial heads.

    Earlier, the bride had shared pictures of herself getting her bridal mehndi done.

    Meanwhile, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry extended his best wishes towards the newlyweds.

    The sister of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will tie the knot with fiancé Mahmood Choudhry at Bilawal House in Karachi on Friday in a ceremony that would be attended by around 1,000 people.

    Though the invitation cards have been sent to the bigwigs across the country, it seems Fazl has not received the letter. According to a report, Fazl said that he was not invited by former president Asif Ali Zardari to the wedding of his daughter. “When asked as to many big names would be participating in the event, Fazlur Rehman said that he does not know about the big names but he is not invited,” the media outlet quoted him while talking to reporters.

    Bakhtawar’s mehndi ceremony will be held on January 27. The nikkah will take place on January 29 while the baarat is scheduled for January 30. All events are expected to take place at the bride’s residence in Karachi.
