    Pakistan seals victory against Bangladesh in first T20I

    Pakistan has sealed their first victory against Bangladesh after Fakhar Zaman, Khushdil Shah and Shadab Khan contributed in clinching the match from the home team.

    Bangladesh posted a total of 127 runs but it became tense in the middle after Pakistan lost Fakhar’s wicket on his 36-balls’ 34. But with the vital hits from Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz, they sealed the game for Pakistan with four balls to spare.

    Captain Babar Azam posted 7 runs, while Mohammad Rizwan could only score 11 runs. Khushdil Shah also posted 34 runs off 35 balls, contributing a decent share in the total.

    Pakistan needed 2 runs in the last over and Shadab hit a six to seal the deal for the Men in Green.

    Hassan Ali, with a comeback performance, took 3 wickets while giving just 22 runs in his 4 overs and bagged Player of the Match award.

    Pakistan will be playing their next match of the series tomorrow, November 20.

    Pakistan announces team for first T20I against Bangladesh

    Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the 12-member team for the first T20I of the three-match series against Bangladesh.

    Pakistan cricket team flew directly to Dhaka from Dubai for the bilateral series against Bangladesh after extremely good performance at the T20 World Cup 2021. Pakistan will be playing three T20 Internationals and Two Test matches in Bangladesh.

    The first T20I will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium on Friday, November 19. While the second and third T20Is will be played at the same venue on November 20 and 22.

    Pakistan names 20-member squad for Bangladesh Tests, including Imam

    The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced 20-member squad for Bangladesh Test match series. Opener Imam-ul-Haq is making a comeback to the national team.

    The opener has been recalled on the back of a blistering form in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, where he has so far amassed 488 runs in five innings. Middle-order hitter Kamran Ghulam and off-spinner Bilal Asif likewise track down a spot in the 20-part crew.

    Bilal Asif has replaced leg-spinner Yasir Shah who is yet to fully recover from the thumb injury he suffered while playing in the domestic T20 tournament. Kamran also returns to the squad after being left out during Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies. Pacers Haris Rauf and Shahnawaz Dahani have been left out and will be allowed to travel back to Pakistan after the T20I leg of the tour.

    The first Test will take place in Chittagong from November 26 with the second match taking place in Dhaka between December 4-8.

    Pakistan cricket team reach Dhaka for bilateral series

    After their loss in the semi-final, the Pakistan cricket team left for Bangladesh to play a three-match T20I and a two-match Test series. The plane carrying them landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday.

    Skipper Babar Azam and veteran cricketer Shoaib Malik will join the team on November 16 after their holidays.

    The members of the Pakistan team headed straight to Hotel Sonargaon upon arrival in Dhaka. Since the beginning of Covid-19, it’s the first time a team is not serving a mandatory quarantine. The members of the visiting team can even move freely if they are Covid-19 negative and jabbed twice.

    All the players of Pakistan’s World Cup squad, barring Mohammad Hafeez, feature in their squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh. Khushdil Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani and Usman Qadir who travelled with the team as reserve players in the World Cup have been called up. Iftikhar Ahmed, who missed out on a World Cup spot, has also earned a call-up.

    The T20 series will begin on November 19. The next two games will be held on November 20 and 22. All the T20Is will be held at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

    The first Test will start on 26 November in Chattogram. Then the teams will return to Mirpur to play the second Test starting on 4 December.

    The national team left the Dubai International stadium on Friday night.

    Lahore tops the worst air quality list, again

    Lahore on Wednesday topped the list of the most polluted cities in the world with the worst air quality levels.

    India’s Delhi is second on the list, Poland’s Krakow and Kyrgyzstan’s Bishkek are placed in third and fourth spot respectively while Bangladesh’s Dhaka is on number five according to the air pollution data released by the US Air Quality Index (AQI).

    Lahore recorded a particulate matter (PM) rating of 364 that classifies the city under the “hazardous” category of air quality.

    The United States Environmental Protection Agency regards air quality as satisfactory if the AQI is under 50.

    Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan during an address at a ceremony in Attock on Friday said that Sindh shut down three operational sugar mills, which contributed to an increase in the price of sugar.

    “The price of sugar in Pakistan has hit Rs140 per kg. I inquired why this was so. I learned that three sugar mills in Sindh, which were operational, were shut down,” the prime minister said.

    The prime minister went on to say that he subsequently learnt that due to the reduced supply, the sugar mills in Punjab began to hoard the commodity.

    “I told the chief secretary that our law forbids hoarding and so if the sugar mills are doing so, we must retrieve the stock and bring it out to the market so the price drops.”

    “We found out that since July, the sugar mills have obtained a stay order against the rule. And so our government was unable to do anything,” PM Imran Khan said.

    “This is a gross injustice that the sugar mafia earns billions after having broken the backs of our people. And when the government moves to do something, they obtain stay orders,” he remarked.

    PM Khan claimed that there was uproar in India as well over high petrol prices and Pakistan still had the cheapest petrol prices in the region.

    “In India today, there is uproar as well [over petrol prices] and the petrol price per litre is Rs150 while it is Rs200 in Bangladesh. [On the other hand] it is the lowest in Pakistan at Rs146,” the premier said.

    “The biggest [impact] of what happened was that the oil price first decreased and now in the last three months it has doubled […] when oil becomes expensive, then everything becomes expensive.”

    “When there was inflation in the whole world then obviously Pakistan is in this same world and not in the heavens so we also had to be affected. As a result, we fully tried and are still trying to protect our people from this inflation.”

    The prime minister’s comments come the same day as the government increased petroleum prices by up to Rs8.14 per litre with immediate effect to ensure the revival of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

    An 80-year-old man in Bangladesh has been reunited with his nearly 100-year-old mother after about 70 years with the help of social media, AFP reported.

    As per details, Abdul Kuddus Munsi in his childhood was sent to live with his uncle but lost touch with his family after running away and being adopted by two sisters.

    “This is the happiest day of my life,” the 82-year-old said from Brahmanbaria, the eastern border district where he was born in 1939.

    In April, a businessman shared a video of Kuddus on Facebook, requesting help finding his parents. Kuddus only remembered the name of his parents and his village from the first decade of his life.

    A distant relative in the village spotted the post and informed Kuddus that his mother, Mongola Nessa, thought to be in her late 90s, was still alive.
    So Kuddus — himself a father to three grown-up sons and five daughters — travelled about 350 kilometers (220 miles) from the western city of Rajshahi, to end the decades of estrangement.

  • Internet sensation dwarf cow Rani dies in Bangladesh

    Rani, who went viral on social media for being the world’s smallest cow, has died in Bangladesh.

    As per reports, Rani was just 51 centimeters (20 inches) tall and weighed almost 26 kilograms (57 pounds). She was in the running for the title of the world’s smallest cow.

    “Rani’s stomach had swollen a lot and she was taken for treatment at around noon on Thursday. However, the vets could not save her life and she died within hours,” Sajedul Islam, a local livestock officer, told Anadolu Agency.

    He said the swelling was due to “overeating and gas accumulation in her stomach”.

    Rani had become a celebrity worldwide and thousands flocked to see her at her farm in Bangladesh. Guinness Book of Records has been informed about Rani’s death.

    The crown for the world’s smallest cow is currently held by Manikyam in India, who is 61.1 centimeters (24 inches) tall.

  • Bangladeshi cleric issues fatwa against Facebook’s laughing emoji

    A cleric in Bangladesh has issued fatwa against Facebook’s laughing (haha) emoji, Geo News has reported. The cleric named, Ahmadullah, has huge social media presence, with more than three million followers on Facebook and YouTube.

    On Saturday (June 19), he posted a three-minute video in which he discussed the mocking of people on Facebook and issued a fatwa, explaining how it is “totally haram” (forbidden) for Muslims.

    “Nowadays we use Facebook’s haha emojis to mock people,” Ahmadullah said in the video, adding, “If we react with haha emojis purely out of fun and the same was intended by the person who posted the content, it’s fine.”

    “But if your reaction was intended to mock or ridicule people who posted or made comments on social media, it’s totally forbidden in Islam,” he added.

    “For God’s sake, I request you to refrain from this act. Do not react with ‘haha’ to mock someone. If you hurt a Muslim, he may respond with bad language that would be unexpected.”

    The video has at least two million views.

    Bangladesh drops ‘except Israel’ from passports

    The Bangladeshi passport had a note written on it that said it was acceptable for travel to all countries of the world except Israel.

    But a few months ago, Bangladesh dropped the words “except Israel” from the new electronic passports.

    Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen confirmed the country’s support for the struggle of Palestinians and condemned the Israeli aggression against civilians.

    Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said the words “except Israel” have been withdrawn from the passports for “administrative convenience”.

    “This move will not affect our position . We are strong supporters of Palestine,” said Momen.

    Gilad Cohen, the Israeli foreign ministry’s deputy director-general for Asia and the Pacific, said on Twitter: “Great news! #Bangladesh has removed travel ban to Israel. This is a welcome step.”

    The Bangladeshi foreign ministry statement, however, clarified that the removal of the observation has been done to maintain global standards.

    “The ban on travel of Bangladeshi passport holders to Israel remains unchanged. The Government of Bangladesh has not deviated from its position on Israel and Bangladesh remains firm on its long-standing position in this regard,” it added.
