‘We are unable to serve new customers’: Pak Suzuki announces booking suspension for all motorcycles

Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) stated on Thursday that it had halted taking reservations for motorbikes until further notice due to issues with manufacturing and procurement following the consecutive closures of its automobile assembling factories caused by an ongoing inventory crisis.

“Under the present economic circumstances, import-based supply chain constraints and uncertain production possibilities, we are unable to serve new customers,” the company said in a letter to dealers.

The suspension of reservations would start today.

“We will, therefore, stop bookings of our motorcycle products from January 20, 2023, for the time being. However, bookings will resume as the situation becomes favourable to serve fresh customers.”

With the rupee falling and inflation at decades-high levels, Pakistan’s economy has collapsed along with a simmering political crisis, but disastrous floods and a worldwide energy crisis have added to the strain.

Almost all industries, including the automotive sector, have been slowed down by a lack of imported components and materials, and an alarmingly large number of businesses have been forced to cease operations.

As Pakistan struggles with a dire foreign exchange crisis, thousands of containers filled with basic food supplies, raw materials, and medical equipment have been held up at the Karachi port.

According to Express Tribune, banks are refusing to issue fresh letters of credit for importers due to a shortage of needed dollars, which is hurting an economy already under pressure from high inflation and weak growth.

City Traffic Police Lahore announces free motorcycle riding training for women

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr Asad Malhi on Tuesday said that the city traffic police are offering free training for motorcycle riding to women under the “Women on Wheels” project.

Speaking at the “Women on Wheels” initiative ceremony held at Police Lines Qila Gujar Singh, he said that up until now, more than 7,000 women had been trained to drive motorcycles, while the 67th batch of women was under training at the Women on Wheels School at the LOS Rescue Academy.

The CTO said that motorcycle riding training would be given to women free of cost at Police Lines Qila Gujar Singh from today onward.

He continued by saying that the goal of the “Women on Wheels” project was to empower women so they could make a meaningful contribution to the development and prosperity of the nation.

According to Dr Asad Malhi, women’s roles alongside those of males are crucial for societal development, hence it is necessary to implement measures for their welfare and capacity growth.

Additionally, the CTP established a driving school in Manawan Lines where women received free instruction in motorbike and car operation, according to the CTO, who said that after completing the training programme, the women were also given driving permits.

According to Dr Asad Malhi, residents can contact Helpline 15 to request admission to driving schools, advice from the Rasta app, or access to CTP’s social media.

Honda Atlas presented two brand-new motorcycles to Driving School Police Lines Qila Gujar Singh during the ceremony, and the CTO also demonstrated how to operate a motorcycle on a simulator.

  • BYKEA hints at launching a car-hailing service

BYKEA hints at launching a car-hailing service

The bike taxi and logistics company BYKEA has recently hinted that it will start offering a car-hailing service. Although the company has not publicly announced its plans or informed its regular users, a recent tweet from its official account suggests what it may be up to in the next weeks or months.

Since BYKEA offers slightly lower costs than its competitors, such as Uber and Careem, it has experienced tremendous growth and popularity among everyday commuters. However, given that petrol prices are so high and that people would rather take inexpensive transportation than spend money on a car, it does not seem like the ideal time to roll out such a service.

    https://twitter.com/bykeapk/status/1561712052577734658?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1561712052577734658%7Ctwgr%5Edd9180fcae0de4b4a46012b47b2b13a878212574%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpropakistani.pk%2F2022%2F08%2F22%2Fbykea-to-launch-a-car-hailing-service-soon%2F

Although it is too early to speculate about BYKEA’s plans, but it is apparent that the ride-hailing company is growing and wants to expand its operations in the country. Considering its latest tweet, “hum 2 se 4 honay walay hain,” makes it obvious that the company is actively formulating a significant strategy.
