    ‘Because of you, a little orphan girl dared to dream’: Edhi orphan girl pens emotional tribute for Bilquis Edhi

    Rabia Bibi Osman shared an inspirational and successful journey that has an impactful contribution of philanthropist, Bilquis Edhi. She wrote her full story on a professional platform, Linkedin after the demise of Bilquis Edhi.

    “Twenty-eight years ago I was abandoned in a baby carriage at the Edhi Orphanage located in Karachi, Pakistan. You found me, you named me after your mother Rabia Bano, you forged my identity, then you gave me a home. Because of you today…I am a somebody, I have an identity, and I have loving parents to call my own,” Rabia wrote.

    She also admired the activism of late Bilquis for women’s rights and empowerment. She dedicated her success journey to the late philanthropist. She had given an opportunity to Rabia to lead an independent life and aspiration to become a successful woman.

    She continued, “Because of you, a little Pakistani girl orphaned at birth dared to dream. Because of you, I am an independent woman with graduate-level education and a place in the world to call my own. You gave me an opportunity. You awarded me a chance to dream, and you presented me with freedom.”

    She studied in college on scholarships and got a chance to get an internship in New York State Assembly, Bronx District Attorney’s Office, U.S Congress, and U.S Senate. She pursued her Master’s degree in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Law.

    She closed the post with an emotional note, “I want you to know who she was to me, and to all of Pakistan. Bilquis Edhi was a hero, she was a mother to so many orphans (like me) and a powerhouse for humanity.   Losing Bare Abbu (Abdul Sattar Edhi) was tough, but your loss has made me feel orphaned again today…   My name is Rabia Bibi Osman, and I will forever be a proud Edhi baby.”

    ‘The kindest face of humanity’: Tributes pour in for Bilquis Edhi

    Bilquis Bano Edhi passed away on Friday (April 15) at the age of 74. She was the wife of renowned humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi. Politicians, journalists, cricketers and celebrities paid rich tributes to Bilquis Edhi.

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tweeted that the passing of Bilquis Edhi “is a huge loss for the nation”.

    First Lady Tehmina Durrani tweeted, “Today I lost the woman who became my mother when I most needed one. The entire world lost one of its most valuable assets.”

    Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto shared a picture of his late mother Benazir Bhutto with Bilquis Edhi and Abdul Sattar Edhi.

    Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan tweeted: “Her quiet, selfless work for the poor, the homeless, especially the orphans & abandoned children, made her a role model and a symbol of hope.”

    Apart from politicians, several cricketers and celebrities also paid rich tributes to Bilquis Edhi.

    Shahid Afridi said Bilquis Edhi was a “mother to so many orphans, a sister to many grieving hearts; the kindest face of humanity”.

    Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam tweeted: “May her unmatched legacy lives on and the hope to thousands remain as in her lifetime. Salute and respect.”

    Pakistani bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi tweeted that Bilquis Edhi was one of a kind hope to many.

    Singer and actor Hadiqa Kiani tweeted, “She trusted me with being a mother and I, like so many others touched by Mrs. Edhi’s grace and kind soul, will forever be grateful. I pray for her peace and I pray her legacy carries on.”

    Actor, Osman Khalid Butt tweeted, “Rest in peace and power, Bilquis Ji. We will never forget your contributions to Pakistan.”

    Adnan Siddiqui wrote: “We have lost a great philanthropist and an ever greater human being. It takes rare selflessness to dedicate your entire life to serving humanity. Bilquis Edhi, your humanitarian work will inspire generations.”

    Bilquis Edhi praised Imran Ashraf for his brilliant performance in his latest blockbuster drama Raqs-e-Bismil that received acclaim from critics and viewers alike.

    Journalist Sumayya Rizwan recently posted a video, in which the philanthropist can be seen lauding Imran Ashraf and his character portrayal in the drama.

    “I really like him [Imran]. I have been watching Moosa and the last episode over and over again.”

    The actor reposted the video on his Instagram and said that it is an ‘award’ for him.

    “Bilquis Edhi sahiba, to be in your prayers and being liked by you is an award, a blessing,” wrote the actor.

    Similarly, former Pakistan’s Ambassador at the United Nations (UN), Maleeha Lodhi also praised the actor.

    “Outstanding performance by Imran Ashraf as usual in the last episode,” wrote Maleeha.

    The Dil Mom Ka Diya actor will next be seen in Adnan Siddiqui’s production venture Dum Mastam costarring Amar Khan.

  • ‘An unparalleled humanitarian’: Bilquis Edhi declared ‘Person of the Decade’

    Bilquis Eidi has been selected as the Person of the Decade by an international web based organisation ‘Impact Hallmarks’.

    As per details, the finalists were shortlisted out of over 1.6 million notables with diverse backgrounds and from over 190 countries. According to the organisation’s website, the finalists were then presented to the global audience to pick out the person of their choice by voting.

    In a statement, the organisation said: “As per the domino effect verdict, concerning the IH international opinion poll outcomes, Stephen Soldz, an upright ethicist and moralist from the US, Ms Bilquis Edhi, an unparalleled noted humanitarian from Pakistan and Prof Yanghee Lee, the fabled unsurpassed human rights rapporteur of the UN, have evidently stretched and segmented the top of the decade’s impact hallmarks and the opinion poll’s top ‘tri-archy’ as well.”

    Bilquis Bano Edhi is a professional nurse, who heads the Bilquis Edhi Foundation. She has spent more than six decades of her life serving humanity in need. Her charity has saved over 42,000 unwanted babies so far by placing ‘jhoolas’ [cradles] at the Edhi Homes and centres across the country.

    Called the Mother of Pakistan, Bilquis Edhi has already been given various national and foreign awards including Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the Lenin Peace Prize, Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice (2015), and the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service, she received along with her husband Abdul Sattar Edhi in 1986.

    Besides the three topmost ‘Persons of the Decade’, the verdict announcement called seven other persons “true patrons of change, the flag-bearers of righteousness and the domino effect architects of the Top-10 of the impact hierarchy of the decade,” which includes Prof. Aurangzeb Hafi from Pakistan.
