    Murad.Adil said, “Even if I agreed to make a film about Waheed Murad’s life, an actor would have to portray him on screen. Can we truly accept anyone in the role of Waheed Murad? Is there an actor who can do justice to his role?”The host asked, “Even if a biopic were made, couldn’t you use his name to earn royalties and contribute in some way? To me, however, his respect and legacy are far more valuable than money.”

    Murad replied, “Waheed Murad had his own unique style, and that made him a famous actor. It’s difficult to capture that reality.”

    When discussing remakes of Waheed Murad’s films,

    Adil remarked, “Many people have approached me about making a film on Waheed Murad’s life, but I always ask them: where can we find actors like Waheed Murad or Zeba?”Someone would have to portray him on screen, but can we accept anyone else in that role? And would they be able to do justice to it as Waheed Murad Sahib did?”

    Adil Murad fondly recalled his father’s style, saying, “From the way he walked, sat, moved his hands, to even the movements of his eyes—everything was uniquely his. That’s what made him stand out. Every action he performed made him a complete actor.”

    Hamza Ali Abbasi will play legendary athlete in biopic

    There is exciting news for fans of sports and film. Hamza Ali Abbasi will play one of Pakistan’s greatest athletes in an upcoming biopic. The titled of the film is ‘Abdul Khaliq: The Flying Bird.’

    The name of the writer and director is not confirmed yet but the owner of Nuplex cinema will produced the film.

    Abdul Khaliq (1935–1996) was a prominent athlete in Pakistan known for his achievements in sprinting. Khaliq won gold medels in the 100 and 200 meters race in Asian Games in 1958. In his international career, he won 36 gold, 15 silver, and 12 bronze medals.

    With Hamza Ali Abbasi starring in it, the film promises to be an exciting tribute to a legendary athlete.

    Bollywood filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, maker of the biopic ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, revealed that actor-comedian Kapil Sharma was his second choice if Diljit Dosanjh had declined the film.
     
    In a recent episode of Imtiaz Ali’s Netflix show, the cast and director of ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ discussed their experiences making the movie. Kapil Sharma shared that A.R. Rahman had called him for a role in the film, but Sharma couldn’t respond as he was out of town and still regrets it.

    “I met Rahman sir one day, and he said, ‘I called you for Chamkila’. I think he wanted me to sing a song or something. I thought he was just sweet-talking with me.”
    “I felt really bad,” the comedian said. “I cried the whole night because of it. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t speak to each other because we were overseas.”

    Imtiaz Ali added that Rahman had also talked to him about Sharma’s singing. Ali informed Sharma that if Diljit didn’t take the role, Sharma would have been their next choice. 
    Ali said, “Rahman sir said to me, ‘I mentioned your singing as well.’ If Diljit couldn’t do this film, we only had one more choice, which was you.”
    The biopic stars Parineeti Chopra as Amar Singh Chamkila’s wife, opposite Diljit Dosanjh.
     
    ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ premiered in theatres before streaming on Netflix, receiving praise for Ali’s direction, Dosanjh’s performance, and Rahman’s music.

    Biopic on Dada: Ranbir Kapoor to play the role of Saurav Gangully

    Ranbir Kapoor has bagged another covered role, getting selected to portray Saurav Ganguly, the Dada of Indian cricket, in an upcoming biopic.

    Ganguly, considered one of the greatest Indian captains, played for his country from 1992 till 2008 when he retired from all formats of the game.

    After his retirement from cricket, Ganguly has remained involved in the sport as a commentator and administrator. He was the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2019 to 2021.

    Shooting of the biopic will start soon after the promotion of Ranbir Kapoor’s new film
    “Tu Jhuuti May Makaar” is over.

    Film makers have not announced the full cast yet but it is confirmed that Ranbir Kapoor will do the lead role. As per details, MS Dhoni, also known as Saurav Ganguly’s talent pick in 2006 series against Pakistan, will also be essayed in the film.

    The movie will be directed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta and produced by Shemaroo Entertainment in association with Joy Ganguly, Saurav Ganguly’s brother.
    The biopic is expected to showcase Ganguly’s journey as a cricketer and his rise to becoming the captain of the Indian cricket team. It will also delve into the controversies that he faced during his career, including the infamous 2002 feud with former Indian coach Greg Chappell.

    Former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has announced the launch of his biopic titled, “Rawalpindi Express – Running against the odds”. He made the announcement on social media.

    “Beginning of this beautiful journey. Announcing the launch of my story, my life, my Biopic, ‘RAWALPINDI EXPRESS – Running against the odds’,” tweeted Shoaib.

    “You’re in for a ride you’ve never taken before. A first foreign film about a Pakistani Sportsman,” he added.

    Anushka Sharma ends 3-year long break with biopic ‘Chakda Xpress’, netizens react

    Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma shared the first look teaser of ‘Chakda Xpress’, a biopic on the former captain of India national women’s cricket team Jhulan Goswami. The film will mark Anushka’s return to acting after a break of three years.

    “It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice,” she wrote while sharing the teaser of the Netflix movie on Instagram. It shows her leading her team to a cricket field, wearing jerseys with slips of their own names slapped on the male cricketers’ names, as she makes a promise: “Today, you see us. Tomorrow, you’ll remember our names.”

    Talking about the film, Anushka wrote in her post: “Chakda Xpress is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket. At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport. This film is a dramatic retelling of several instances that shaped her life and also women’s cricket.”

    Some of the netizens loved the teaser and welcomed Anushka after the break while some did not like her Bengali accent and called it a poor attempt at darkening her skin.

    Before Anushka, several Bollywood actresses like Kangana Ranaut, Taapsee Pannu, Parineeti Chopra and more have played sportswoman in movies.

    The film will be premiered on Netflix, official release date is not announced yet.

    National Award-winning actress Mehwish Hayat is all set to play the role of Pakistan’s first and only female Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in her forthcoming film.

    The Load Wedding actress appeared on Geo’s ‘Aik Din Geo Ke Sath’ on which she confirmed the news that “the deal is signed”.

    A few years back the actress had shown interest in doing a biopic of the late Benazir Bhutto.

    When the host asked Mehwish if the news of her playing Benazir is true, Mehwish said, “InshAllah. It is a huge subject and a very complicated one, her story is so inspirational. [I think] that our current generation and the one that is to come, need to see her contributions, struggles, progress, her life.”

    The Jawani Phir Nahi Aani star added, “She was the first woman Prime Minister of the country. The world needs to know about her.”

    The announcement received polarizing response on social media. Benazir’s daughter, Bakhtawar, slammed the idea stating that no consent was sought from the family for the project.

    On the work front, Mehwish will be seen next in Humayun Saeed’s London Nahi Jaunga.

    Squash legend Jahangir Khan has said that if a film was made on his life, the hero should be Humayun Saeed.

    Khan was invited to Shahzad Iqbal’s Jashan-e-Cricket. The Host asked that who is your favourite actor? To which the legendary player replied that he doesn’t watch many films but he likes Abid Ali, Nasir Sahab and Jamshed Ansari from Pakistani dramas. He also mentioned Shehnaz Sheikh’s name as his favourite actress.
    Shahzad further asked: “If a biopic is made on you, who do you think can act well in it?” The host gave him the options of Fahad Mustafa, Fawad Khan, Humayun Saeed and Sheheryar Munarwar, Khan chose Humayun.

    He added: “It is very important for inspiration and I think it is very important for our children. We have many sports legends, I think biopics should be made for their learning.”

    Shahzad also asked that if he has any plan to write an autobiography, to which Khan said: “I haven’t think about it as yet but I think I should.”

    On November 28, 1981, Khan became the world’s youngest world champion. He is a great squash player who won 555 events consecutively. He retired from Squash in 1993 after helping Pakistan to win the World Team Championship in Karachi.

    Mahira Khan’s next film to be a biopic

    Mahira Khan has revealed that her next production after Baarwan Khiladi will be a biopic and that she will be acting in it herself. Mahira recently set up her production company Soulfry Films with close friend and producer Nina Kashif.

    In an interview with a local media outlet, Kashif revealed that Mahira is “acting in our next production”.

    To this, Mahira added: “It’s a biopic but that’s all we can tell you right now!” Further details about this upcoming project are not yet known, though The Current reached out to Mahira for more on the project.

    Meanwhile, Mahira also revealed that her upcoming production venture Baarwan Khiladi will also feature cameos by Fawad Khan and Shoaib Malik.

    “I’m so grateful to the two of them for doing this for us,” said the actor-turned-producer.

    Baarwan Khiladi, which features young and upcoming actors including Danyal Zafar, Shahveer Jafry, Kinza Hashmi and Khaqan Shahnawaz, has a cricket-themed story. According to Mahira, the web series is “a coming of age story about friendships, relationships, unity, failure, success, love and courage.” It has been written by Shahid Dogar and directed by Adnan Sarwar, the man behind Motorcycle Girl. Saba Faisal, Mira Sethi and Sarmad Khoosat are also part of the cast.

    Talking about the cast selection, Nina said that they “didn’t want to bank on well-known actors for our cast.”

    “We wanted to select boys of a certain age because the story is about a young cricket team. We also opted for new actors because they are yet to have any characters associated with them from previous projects,” added the producer.

    Much of the series has been shot inside the Walled City of Lahore, though Mahira couldn’t be part of most of the filming because she had tested positive for COVID-19.

    Nina and Mahira were hoping to release the series at the end of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) but their plans were thwarted when the matches were postponed. They now hope to release it before Eid-ul-Fitr.

    Baarwan Khiladi will stream on Tapmad, a South Asian streaming service.
