    ‘Pakistan bohat khoobsurat hai’: UK envoy reveals what he likes the most about Pakistan

    British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr Christian Turner has shared that he is a huge fan of Karachi Biryani and Lahori food. He expressed his love for Pakistan’s foods and cities in Urdu that is quite impressive and interesting. 

    In an interview with Hamid Mir, Dr Turner said, “Well, I should say, first of all, Pakistan bohat khoobsurat hai, Meri Urdu kharab hai. Thodi jaanta hun.” 

    Turner agreed with the old saying “Lahore Lahore Hai (Lahore is Lahore)” and said that all he had done for three days in Lahore was eat. The representative revealed he was fond of Karachi’s biryaniHe said it was “Bohat mazedaar (very delicious)”.

  • Sri Lankan commentator Russel Arnold becomes a Biryani fan

    Sri Lankan cricket commentator Russel Arnold has become a fan of Karachi’s
    biryani. The former cricketer is now  in
    Karachi with the ICC’s official commentators’ team for the second Test match
    between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

    Russel took to Twitter to express his love for biryani, stating Karachi as the ‘Biryani Capital’ of the world.

    Unsatisfied with a single plate, Russel even hit an extra session in the gym to eat  some more biryani.

    The
    arrival of Sri Lankan cricket team has marked the return of Test cricket in
    Pakistan. With the first Test match in Rawalpindi being washed out by
    rain, everybody is now waiting for Karachi Test that will decide the series.

    The matches are scheduled from December 19 (Wednesday) to December 23 (Monday) at the National Stadium, Karachi.

  • Biryani wins hearts at Morocco

    Biryani is by far the most favorite dish of Pakistanis and now it has made its way to Morocco and they are also in love with this exotic spicy dish and we are not surprised.

    The embassy, in collaboration with Pakistan Morocco Joint Business Council (PMJBC), organized a biryani festival in the capital of Morocco Rabat. The event was aimed at introducing the people of Morocco to Pakistani rice and spices, and also creating a soft image of the country as a tourism destination.

    Hosted by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Morocco, Hamid Asghar Khan, the festival was attended by the business personalities from both countries. Chairman PMJBC and the Honorary Consul General of Morocco, Ishtiaq Baig, led a delegation of 25 top businessmen from Karachi. Among the other guests were the vice-chairman of the Moroccan Parliament, members of the National Assembly, rice buyers, and restaurant/hotel operators.

    Pakistani chef Gulzar Hussain along with his team went to attend the event. He served four different types of Biryanis – prawn biryani, mutton biryani, vegetable biryani, and chicken biryani. The festival was the first event held under the plan of Engage Africa Policy. Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced the policy last week.

    Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Khan highlighted that the event was organized to facilitate the private sector and drive active engagement for the trade policy.

    The Biryani vs Pulao debate has long dominated social media. But now we have an official winner.

    According to a survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, 47% Pakistanis claim that biryani is their favourite Pakistani dish.

    A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Please tell us what your favorite Pakistani dish is?” 

    In response, 47% said biryani as their favorite dish, 14% said pulao, 9% said karahi, 11% said paaye, 6% said haleem, 3% said nihari and while 8% said something other than these options, 2% did not know/did not wish to respond.

    So basically biryani has officially beaten pulao in food wars. The Current totally endorses this survey! Munch munch…

    New Zealand’s Neesham responds to Pakistani fan’s biryani invitation

    New Zealand’s cricketing stalwart Jimmy Neesham has responded to a Pakistani’s biryani invitation, which has made his fans in Pakistan love him even more.

    As per the details, Jimmy had last weak turned to Twitter to ask for recommendations for a good place to have dinner in Toronto where he is currently playing the Global T20 League.

    Being one of the most popular cricketers on Twitter, it wasn’t later that the micro-blogging network started flooding with suggestions for Neesham.

    Among the many responses attracted by his tweet, was that of a Pakistani fan who invited him for the “best dish in the world”, biryani.

    It wasn’t later that the 28-year-old batsman responded with:

    “Probably a bit too far to go for dinner tonight mate [sic],” he wrote.
