  • Sridevi’s husband blames a habit for her untimely death

Sridevi’s husband blames a habit for her untimely death

The late celebrated icon Sri Devi left a hole in the Bollywood industry when she passed away in 2018, leaving behind an impressive film legacy. On the announcement of her death, many Bollywood actors, including Pakistani celebrities like Sajal Aly, mourned the loss of a giant. Five years later, her husband, producer Boney Kapoor, has opened up about her sudden death in an interview with ‘The New Indian’.

The producer said it was Sri Devi’s constant habit of crash diets had caused her health problems to prolong, saying that the family physician had often scolded the late actress. “She often used to starve; she wanted to look good,” Kapoor stated.

“She wanted to look good because when you are on screen, you look much broader and she wanted to make sure that she is chiselled and in good shape to maintain good looks on screen. It was not just for the film that she was doing then. She had come down to 46-47 kgs. You will notice it in the film ‘English Vinglish’.”

Boney further elaborated that doctors consistently scolded the late actress after she had a number of blackouts because of her refusal to add salt to her diet.

Salt can retain water and cutting it out from diet can make people look thinner.

The producer said he urged his late wife to not follow a harsh diet because of her low BP.

“Most women believe salt increases water retention, that’s why you feel puffy. That was one reason. I would also tell her not to completely avoid salt. I would also ask her to include a pinch of salt when having salad.”

Boney recalled that South Indian star Nagarjuna came to visit him to offer condolences for Sri Devi’s demise, and revealed the actress’s crash diet took her to a point that she “fell in the bathroom and broke her teeth, and had those artificial caps.”

Boney said he urged the actress to stop following such a strict diet plan, however, “unfortunately, she didn’t take this seriously and we also thought it can’t be this serious till the incident happened.”

Sri Devi passed away in Dubai while she was getting ready to go on a dinner date with her husband. She suffered a cardiac arrest while in the bath tub and could not be revived. According to a news source, Boney had found her motionless in the hotel bathroom, in a bathtub full of water. When she didn’t wake up, he called the police at 9 pm.

Speaking on the brutal interogation by the Dubai police, Boney Kapoor opened up about the disturbing allegations claiming he had killed her, and why he chose not to speak about the factors behind her death.

“First of all, it was not a natural death, it was an accidental death. I decided not to speak about it because I had already spoken about it for over 24 to 48 hours when I was being interrogated and investigated. Dubai Police told me that we had to be through because there was pressure from Indian media. I said, well, I have nothing more to say than what I already have been saying.

They also discovered that there was no foul play and I went through all the intense interrogation there where they put me through a lie detector and all those things. The post-mortem report said that it was an accidental death by drowning.”

‘I’m not bothered’: Bipasha Basu responds to body shamers on post-pregnancy weight gain

Bipasha being the diva she is will continue to remain unbothered by nay-sayers trying to dim her light.

The 2000’s IT girl and her husband Karan Singh Groven recently announced they became parents for the first time to a baby girl. But ever since the actress made public appearances after the birth of her child, she was ruthlessly criticised by social media trolls due to the weight gained.

Now in an interview with News 18, the ‘Jism’ actress had responded to the bullying with a smirk: “I would like to tell them to please keep trolling. It’s completely fine because I’m not bothered.” Her husband Karan chimed in saying: “As long as they’re watching us, it is okay.”

Bipasha’s daughter Devi, was born through an IVF procedure, and the actress gave a heart tugging revelation three days later that her daughter was born with three holes in her heart. She spoke about how her priorities had completely changed after her daughter’s birth, and was only concerned with Devi’s health:

“Devi’s my number one when it comes to everything and anything. Whether my eyes are open or shut, it’s always her. Every time I step out, I just want to run back home and be with her. Everything in my life now revolves around her… Karan is number three, I’m number two and Devi is number one. As for Karan, not much has changed. Prod him further and he jokes, ‘I’m a slave who used to have one master. Now I’ve two masters and I’m still a slave.’ So, nothing much has changed for me.”

Speaking about her experience of motherhood, the ‘Race’ actress acknowledged that her journey was different from any other normal parent, and said in sharing her experience she hoped other women out there stop shaming themselves to think they’re bad mothers:

“Our journey has been very different from any normal mother-father, it has been a lot tougher than the smile that I have on my face right now. I would not wish this to happen to any mother. For a new mother, when you get to know that… I got to know on the third day of my having a baby that our baby is born with two holes in her heart. I thought I’ll not share this, but I’m sharing this because I feel that there are a lot of mothers, who helped me in this journey, and it was very difficult to find those mothers…”

  • ‘I once found pornographic pictures of myself when I was a teenager’: Janhvi Kapoor

‘I once found pornographic pictures of myself when I was a teenager’: Janhvi Kapoor

Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor gave an interview to Indian publication Newslaundry where she opened up about how as the daughter of celebrity parents, there were several occasions where her privacy was breached. She talked about an incident where pictures of her as a teenager were uploaded on the internet, taking a toll on her mental health.

The ‘Mili’ actress revealed she came across pictures of her face morphed on inappropriate photographs on pornographic websites, stressing that she was concerned about the rise of AI technology.

“People see these manipulated images and assume they’re real. It deeply concerns me.”

The actress shared how as a ten year old, she searched her name on a school’s computer lab and found pictures taken by the paparazzi on Yahoo, where she looked “very uncomfortable” and not “groomed”. The headlines claimed she was being launched in the industry. Such gossip tabloids further alienated Janhvi from her peers:

“I don’t think they understood it so they started disliking me. I didn’t understand what was happening. My friends looked at me differently, they poked fun at me for not getting waxed… Many insinuated that I don’t have to work as I was famous anyway, weird taunts that I wouldn’t understand. Everyone kept asking me when I was leaving school and why I was on Yahoo. There was a lot of judgement, a lot of questioning of one’s self-worth from a very young age.”

‘Every actor has the right to protect themselves’: Anil Kapoor wins landmark case against AI

Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has won a landmark case preventing his image from being used in any manner by Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

The actor filed a case with the Delhi High Court, after numerous morphed videos and emojis featuring his iconic phrase ‘jhakas’ from the 1985 film ‘Yudh’ went viral on social media.

The suit had asked for protection for the actor’s personality rights including his name, image, likeness, voice against any misuse on social media, and listed various instances of how the actor’s attributes were being misused. After a detailed hearing, the court sided with Anil Kapoor by acknowledging his personality rights, and restrained users from misusing the attributes without his permission or consent.

Speaking to Variety, Anil Kapoor said he was happy with the order.

“I’m very happy with this court order, which has come in my favor, and I think it’s very progressive and great for not only me but for other actors also. Because of the way technology and the AI technology, which is which is evolving every day [and] which can completely take advantage of and be misused commercially, as well as where my image, voice, morphing, GIFs and deep fakes are concerned, I can straight away, if that happens, send a court order and injunction and they have to pull it down.”

“It’s not only for me,” the ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ actor stressed. “Today, I’m there to protect myself, but when I’m not there, the family should have the right to protect my [personality] and gain from it in future.”

“My intention is not to interfere with anyone’s freedom of expression or to penalize anyone. My intent was to seek protection of my personality rights and prevent any misuse for commercial gains, particularly in the current scenario with rapid changes in technology and tools like artificial intelligence.”

AI is a central element to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood. Anil Kapoor expressed solidarity with the ongoing strike.

“This [the court order] should be great positive news for all of them to a certain extent. And I am always, completely with them in every which way, and I feel their rights should be protected, because everybody, big, small, popular, not popular, every actor has the right to protect themselves and their rights.”

Meera also revealed that during her trips to India, she met Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan three times. The first time was after completing her film ‘Nazar’ and met the actor in London. • ‘It’s disturbing that a film like The Kashmir Files is so popular’: Naseeruddin Shah

‘It’s disturbing that a film like The Kashmir Files is so popular’: Naseeruddin Shah

Bollywood’s venerated thespian Naseeruddin Shah has spoken out against the rising popularity of propaganda films like ‘The Kerala Story’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’, both of which revolve around Islamophobic content. The former centers around the debunked claim that thousands of women in the state of Kerala were forced to convert to Islam and then recruited into ISIS. ‘The Kashmir Files’, a film about the mass evacuation of Hindus from Indian-occupied Kashmir, was slammed by critics for distorting facts.

“Now the more jingoist you are, the more popular you become, because this is what has been ruling this country. It’s not enough to love your country but beat drums about it and you have to create imaginary enemies,” the veteran actor said while speaking to Free Press Journal.

Shah said that filmmakers behind ‘The Kerala Story’ or ‘The Kashmir Files’ don’t realise that what they’re doing is harmful.

“In fact, films like Kerala Story and Gadar 2, I haven’t seen them, but I know what they are about. It’s disturbing that films like Kashmir Files are so massively popular whereas movies made by Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha and Hansal Mehta, who are trying to portray the truth of their times, don’t get seen.”

The ‘Masoom’ actor described the current environment “frightening” considering how filmmakers today are resorting to making movies on baseless accusations that trample down other communities:

“It’s hard to resort to abstraction and capture life as it is. So regressive is a pretty mild word for what’s going on. It’s frightening when filmmakers are being coopted into making films which praise all the wrong things and run down other communities for no reason at all. It’s a dangerous trend.”

The actor had previously written an open letter about the accusations of love-jihad on his 41-year-long marriage to Hindu wife Ratna Pathak, saying that he and his family were supportive of his wife’s decision to remain a Hindu.

“As it happened, the subject of my wife Ratna converting to Islam was brought up just once by my mother and that as enquiry, to which, on receiving a reply in the negative, she concurred with a ‘Haan, mazhab kaise badla jaa sakta hai.’ Whether this statement of a woman weaned exclusively on a diet of the Quran makes more sense than the hate-filled rhetoric of ‘Hindus and Muslims cannot live together’, I will leave to the judgement of the reader.”

#Jawanday trends on Twitter as Shah Rukh Khan’s film releases in theatres across India

Shah Rukh Khan wasn’t joking around when he said “I don’t release my film on festivals. The day my film is released is a festival.”

Fans around the world are celebrating #JawanDay as the action thriller was released across cinemas all over India. Numerous videos on social media show audiences rushing to the theatre to watch ‘Jawan’, several holding festivals outside cinemas to rejoice King Khan’s undefeated run as the Badshah of Bollywood.

Videos on social media show fans praising the film and the performance of the ‘Pathan’ actor.

We think the government should declare public holidays the day Shah Rukh films are released because holy moly, the amount of people dancing in theatres is something we’ve never witnessed before.

Film critics are also joining in on the celebration, terming the film another hit by the Bollywood Badshah. The Hindustan Times called Jawan a “massy, meaningful actioner” which doesn’t conform to any set templates or tropes, “that makes for an engaging and entertaining watch”. Their critic also praised SRK’s performance, from his heroic entry scene to his fights and even dance performance.

The Indian Express called Jawan “an all-time blockbuster” that provides an action packed drama for cinephiles. Pinkvilla gave the film 4 stars, writing praises about SRK’s performance and called it “a performance that would be remembered for a long time.”

“From the display of his heroism and machoism to the emotional sequences, action blocks and the hard-hitting dramatic monologues – He does everything that one expects of a Hindi Film Hero.”

  • Shah Rukh Khan slammed by right-wingers for visiting Hindu temple ahead of ‘Jawan’ release

Shah Rukh Khan slammed by right-wingers for visiting Hindu temple ahead of ‘Jawan’ release

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was spotted along with his daughter Suhana Khan visiting Sri Venkateshwara Swamy temple in Tirupati on Tuesday to offer prayers and ask for blessings ahead of the release of his action thriller ‘Jawan’.

The news however was met with backlash from right-wing conservatives on social media. The extreme-right brigade condemned the Bollywood actor for what they said was using religious temples as props for movie promotions. Many accused the ‘Pathaan’ actor of making a mockery of religious places, calling for a ban on Muslim actors visiting Hindu temples.

“Seriously? Why are we allowing our temples to be used as publicity props by non idolators ?” one user wrote.

    Another wrote:

“Hindu temples are not places of tourism & publicity stunt. Such gimmicks must stop and Hindus must resist such Nautanki. If you wanna take the blessings of our gods & goddesses then simply accept the Sanatan Dharma & carry on with your Yatra & not Temple Run publicity stunts.”

However, Bollywood actors have commonly visited temples before film releases to offer prayers for its success. Vicky Kaushal had visited the Siddivinayak temple in June to offer gratitude prayers after his film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ became a box office success. Akshay Kumar visited BAPS Hindu Mandir in UAE to pray.

Shah Rukh Khan has been vocal about his secular family, not asking his children to follow Islam or Hinduism.

“We have never discussed Hindu-Muslim. My wife is Hindu, I am a Muslim and our kids are Hindustan. When they went to school, they had to write their religion. My daughter came to me once and asked ‘what is our religion?’ I simply wrote in her form that we are Indian, we do not have a religion.”

Many praised the superstar for his massive respect for all religions
