Bollywood film Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has become the biggest opener of 2024, earning 58 Crore in India. The movie made 46 Crore on its first day, August 15, India’s Independence Day, and set a new record for advance bookings.
The sequel to the 2018 hit ‘Stree’ continues the story of Chanderi town, which is haunted by a fearsome ghost called Sarkata Bhoot. The townspeople seek help from ‘Stree’ to deal with the horror, blending humor and fear in the process.
Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor return to their roles, with Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar making surprise appearances in the horror-comedy. The film is inspired by the local legend of Sarkata Bhoot from Lansdowne, Uttarakhand. This headless ghost is said to guard the area, which locals believe helps keep crime rates low. The legend is connected to British soldier WH Wardell, who was stationed in Lansdowne before dying in World War I.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan recieved accolades for his 2007 film ‘Tare Zameen Par’ which explored the struggles of a dyslexic child who is sent to a boarding school after poor academic performance. Now, the actor has confirmed that he is working on a sequel called ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ which will focus on the theme of promoting mental health and children’s rights.
Speaking to News 18, Aamir said that the sequel will be 10 steps ahead of the original film, stressing that it aims to make the audience laugh instead of crying.
“I have not spoken about it publicly and I won’t be able to say much now also. But I can tell the title. The title of the film is Sitare Zameen Par. You must have remembered my film Taare Zameen Par and the name of this film is Sitare Zameen Par because we are moving 10 steps ahead with the same theme. Taare Zameen Par was an emotional film, this film will make you laugh. That film made you cry this one will entertain you.”
Nine boys will help his character in the film, the superstar stated.
“But the theme is the same that’s why we kept this name very thoughtfully. We all have flaws, we all have weaknesses, but we all also have something special, so we are taking forward this theme but this time the character of the special child Ishaan in that film, my character helps that character in Taare Zameen Par, in Sitare Zameen Par, those 9 boys, who have their own issues they help me. It’s the opposite.”
‘Tare Zameen Par’ revolved around the eight-year-old boy Ishaan, who struggles with dyslexia, being labelled a trouble maker by his teachers and family. After being dropped off at a boarding school, he meets art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh, who helps him open up with the love of art and becomes his tutor.

Previously, speaking to NDTV, the actor spoke about his difficulty in dealing with the spotlight as well as the struggle to draw a balance between professional and personal affairs. As he revealed:
“My main struggle is to balance the personal and professional. My issue is that I need to find time for myself, and take that step back from my stardom. I am a person first who has family and friends, and this personal side of my life is of utmost importance to me.”
Bollywood diva Sonam Kapoor is going to make a comeback to the big screen after taking a break from acting following the birth of her son in 2022. Pinkvilla has reported that the ‘Aisha’ actress spoke about wanting to do only two projects a year, aiming for those that appeal to family audience:
“I’m looking to do two projects year on year from here on and I’m going to look for scripts that are hugely entertaining & engaging. I’m being drawn to subjects that appeal to a wider audience segment so that we can enjoy movies as a family, as a community.”

The actress had opened up in April about dealing with post-partum period in an interview with Grazia India, where she discussed the immense pressure put on moms to lose their post-delivery weight, and how it wrecks your self-confidence:
“I’m not scared of anything in that sense, ageing or anything else but I just don’t feel like myself. If I’m shooting, I send my measurements in advance, I don’t want to come back feeling like I’m not fitting into these tiny clothes, it plays a huge havoc on your self-confidence.”
Kapoor said she was taking her time and taking care of her health while breast feeding her baby, and was not following any diet plans:
“I’m not back to what I used to be and I’m not even pushing myself – I’m still breastfeeding, and I hope to continue for at least a year. Your body needs the food, rest, and energy while you’re doing that. I’m not on any crazy diet, I’m exercising – I exercised through my pregnancy – and being healthy. I took care of myself through my pregnancy and I’m going to continue doing that and not check the scales.”

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan came under fire on Twitter after he spoke about digital platforms normalizing nudity and vulgar topics, asking that they should be subjected to censorship.
“I really think there should be censorship on the medium (OTT). All this… vulgarity, nudity, swearing needs to stop. Kids as young as 15 or 16 can access it. Would you like it if your young daughter watches it? I just think the content on OTT needs to be checked. The cleaner the content, the better it will be. It will also have better viewership.”
According to The Hindustan Times, the ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan ‘ actor spoke out against actors who perform nude scenes on television and expose themselves on screen, suggesting that this should not be acceptable in India, because it could also lead to security problems:
“You have done it all – love making, kissing and exposing in scenes. And when you enter your building, your watchman has also watched your work. I just don’t think that is right for security reasons. We don’t need to do that… You don’t need to cross the boundary. We live in India. It was way too much before, finally, it has been curbed. Now, people have started working on a lot of good and decent content.”
Khan’s comments led to a revolt against him on social media, with users bringing up the problematic things the actor has said and done in the past, pointing out the irony in him speaking out against vulgarity, yet refusing to address his own problematic behavior.

A film screening of Bollywood’s smash hit Pathaan organized by Firework Events in DHA, Karachi has been cancelled. The event was gaining traction on social media with many lining up to buy tickets.
However, the Sindh Board of Film Censors issued a statement calling for the screening to be banned, stating that only films approved by the board are allowed to be played in public or private cinemas. “No person shall make or arrange a public or private exhibition of a film by means of cinematograph unless the film has been duly certified for public exhibition by the Board.” The Censor Board also cited laws that include imprisonment of up to 3 years along with a fine of up to Rs 100,000. SBFC demanded that Firework Events cancel the screening of the film.
