Why has Nasiruddin Shah stopped watching Bollywood movies?

Veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah recently shared that he’s stopped watching Bollywood movies, expressing disappointment with the repetitiveness of the stories.

“I don’t like the same old stories at all, that’s why I stopped watching Hindi films,” he said in an interview. He pointed out that while Indian food is widely loved for its rich content, the same cannot be said for Hindi films. According to him, Indian films lack good content, causing even Indians living abroad to tire of them quickly.
Shah advised Indian filmmakers to tackle serious topics responsibly, ensuring they reflect contemporary realities without facing censorship or bans. He cited examples of Iranian filmmakers and Indian cartoonist RK Laxman, who continued their work despite challenges from authorities. He emphasized the need for Bollywood to learn from such examples and elevate its storytelling.

‘Spineless’: Twitter disgusted after Ranveer Singh pays tribute to Johnny Depp at film festival

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has been criticised on social media after a video of him praising controversial actor Johnny Depp went viral. The ‘Rocky And Rani’ actor was honoured with ‘The Red Sea: Honoree Award’, and in his acceptance speech the actor chose to praise Johnny by calling him his “screen idol.”

“I want to go off-script for a moment here. One of my screen idols is in the house, ladies and gentlemen, Mr Johnny Depp. My good sir, I’ve followed your work since Edward Scissorhands and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. What an honour to be receiving this in your presence. Thank you for everything that you’ve unknowingly taught me about the craft, sir. Master of transformation, versatility, something that inspired by you.”

Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard were embroiled in a public defamation case in 2022. The jury sided mostly with Depp, finding Heard guilty of defamation, penalising her for $10 million agile Depp was told to pay her $1 million.

X (formerly Twitter) users were outraged at Ranveer, mostly regarded as one of the non-toxic male leads in Bollywood, paying homage to a Depp.

“embarrassing..these celebs esp from bw don’t stand up for anything and when given a public platform they would commit atrocities like praising a straight up abuser. just accept ur award and leave like i am sure he doesn’t give a fuck. ranveer would ass-lick just abt anybody.”

“Powerful men side with each other and get hailed for low effort and unimpressive “acts of love”. Idealizing a rapist and abuser reflects a lot on you. It is easier to speak two lines praising your super rich and successful wife but hard to stand up for other women/survivors,” another user wrote.

X (formerly Twitter) users were dumbfounded by this bizarre comparison because Alia Bhatt did not invent sustainability? People have re worn clothes for more than one formal occasion? And several celebrities have also done the same thing?

  • Deepika finally responds to criticism of Koffee with Karan interview

Deepika continues to live her best life while living rent free in the minds of haters.

A few weeks back, Deepika and Ranveer raised eyebrows with their ‘Koffee With Karan’ interview where the two revealed they casually dated for a couple of months before getting engaged. The ‘Om Shanti Om’ actress recalled ending an abusive relationship not ready for a serious commitment. The two actors, therefore, kept seeing other people while dating each other. After the two got engaged, they decided to remain a monogamous couple.

Deepika became the target of sexist jokes, and claims that she cheated on Ranveer during their relationship. Now, during an interview with Vogue India, the actress has declared she is past the point of letting trolls dictate her opinions.

“When I feel really strongly or passionately about something, I don’t think twice about expressing myself. I’ve grown to become this person where I’m not afraid of speaking my truth or owning up to mistakes. I’m not afraid of saying sorry,” Deepika responded, as according to Mashable India.

While social media users had Deepika’s back to protect her from the naysayers, the industry did as well. Host of ‘Koffee With Karan’, Karan Johar, did a livestream where he addressed the criticism over Deepika’s comment, and shut down her critics.

“Do what you need to do because no one’s looking,” responded the celebrated director according to The Hindustan Times. “Trolling gets you nowhere. You are landing nowhere.”

Did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiment’: Abdul Razzaq apologises to Aishwarya Rai for sexist comment

Former cricketer Abdul Razzaq sparked outrage on Tuesday when a video of him passing degrading comments about Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai went viral. Former cricketers Shahid Afridi and Umer Gul were sitting with Razzaq at a panel where the current team’s performance was being discussed. They could be seen laughing at the misogynistic statement.

Several X (formerly Twitter) users described their disgust by slamming the cricket player as sexist.

Razzaq has now apologised for his comments, saying that he did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiment.

“Yesterday, we were talking about cricket coaching and intentions. I had a slip of tongue and mistakenly took Aishwarya Rai’s name while I was supposed to give another example. I apologise to her personally. I did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiment,” Abdul responded.

Shahid Afridi also apologised for laughing at Abdul’s sexist remark. Speaking to a private news channel, the former captain revealed he laughed because everyone was enjoying the moment.

“I saw the clip when I went home and realised that Abdul Razzaq made a wrong statment. I knew he had a mike in his hand and will say something. He has a habit of getting beaten by shoes. I will just text him tio apologize for what he said as it was wrong.”

  • ‘It doesn’t matter’: Ranbir Kapoor responds to label of ‘toxic masculinity’

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor was the center of criticism from the public when certain moments with his wife, actress Alia Bhatt, didn’t sit well with fans. Recently, the ‘Barfi’ actor went viral after Alia’s interview with Vogue where she revealed Ranbir forbade her from wearing lipstick. This attracted severe criticism from X (formerly Twitter) users who lashed out at Ranbir by labelling him a ‘red flag’ all women should avoid.

Recently in an interview the actor, who’s the son of late star Rishi Kapoor, acknowledged the backlash, stating that he is fine with being labeled the face of toxic masculinity.

“Recently, I was reading an article about being toxic and something relating to some statement I made, and I understand. Listen, I am on your side. Whatever you are fighting against this toxic masculinity, I am on the side of people who are fighting for it. So, if they want to use me as a face, I am fine because their fight is bigger than just me feeling bad about them having an opinion on what I said,” the actor opined according to The Indian Express.

The ‘Tamasha’ actor said he accepted a long time ago he would become a part of “gossip blogs”, and further said it didn’t matter to him what critics said.

Ranbir also said him not being active on social media helps in not having to deal with the negativity that comes with being an actor “which is a great thing.”

But also, Ranbir added, his focus always remained on his work, and takes opinions about his image with a pinch of salt:

“Sometimes a lot of things are written about you as an actor, and many opinions are made, which are not necessarily true, but you have to take it with a pinch of salt. Because this image of mine, which is being created by the movies or the characters I play or by media, is something that I don’t own. It is owned by the public, it is owned by people who like or dislike my work and they are allowed to say anything as long as they give my work a chance. My focus has always been just to act.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s security upgraded after extensive death threats

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has been provided with Y+ security by the Mumbai Police, including six armed security personnel guarding the actor around the clock.

The actor filed a complaint with the police and the Maharashtra government after two of his films, ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’, broke box office records.

This is not the first time the actor has been given death threats from the underworld. Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta recalled in September that the Bollywood Badshah was subjected to bullying during the 90s from underworld dons, but he continued making films. “Goli marni hai mar do, par tumhaare liye kaam nahi karoonga. Main pathan hoon,” Gupta recalled him saying.

Shah Rukh Khan is not the only star who has recieved death threats from gangsters. In June, a gangster who went by the name Goldy Brar, who took responsibility for the death of rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, told India Today that he will kill Salman Khan.

  • ‘I once found pornographic pictures of myself when I was a teenager’: Janhvi Kapoor

‘I once found pornographic pictures of myself when I was a teenager’: Janhvi Kapoor

Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor gave an interview to Indian publication Newslaundry where she opened up about how as the daughter of celebrity parents, there were several occasions where her privacy was breached. She talked about an incident where pictures of her as a teenager were uploaded on the internet, taking a toll on her mental health.

The ‘Mili’ actress revealed she came across pictures of her face morphed on inappropriate photographs on pornographic websites, stressing that she was concerned about the rise of AI technology.

“People see these manipulated images and assume they’re real. It deeply concerns me.”

The actress shared how as a ten year old, she searched her name on a school’s computer lab and found pictures taken by the paparazzi on Yahoo, where she looked “very uncomfortable” and not “groomed”. The headlines claimed she was being launched in the industry. Such gossip tabloids further alienated Janhvi from her peers:

“I don’t think they understood it so they started disliking me. I didn’t understand what was happening. My friends looked at me differently, they poked fun at me for not getting waxed… Many insinuated that I don’t have to work as I was famous anyway, weird taunts that I wouldn’t understand. Everyone kept asking me when I was leaving school and why I was on Yahoo. There was a lot of judgement, a lot of questioning of one’s self-worth from a very young age.”

  • Shah Rukh Khan not part of Don 3 for this reason

Shah Rukh Khan not part of Don 3 for this reason

Indian director and actor Farhan Akhtar has talked to Variety about the reason why the iconic action franchise ‘Don’ has rebooted with Ranveer Singh and not Shah Rukh Khan, who played the role in 2006 and 2011.

The announcement that Ranveer Singh will play the iconic villain was made in August, leaving audiences divided.

Now, Akhtar has revealed that he and King Khan had parted mutually after they couldn’t find any common ground on how the story is supposed to go forward.

“I’m not in the position of replacing anybody. These are things that we discussed over the years, I wanted to take a certain direction with the story, somehow we just couldn’t find common ground. We just parted mutually knowing that it’s probably for the best. So that’s where it is.”

The son of lyricist Javed Akhtar went on to express his excitement about Ranveer playing Don, and said the actor was charged up for the project.

“I’m really excited Ranveer’s on board. He’s so charged and so ready to go. It’s a big film, just purely from the point of view of an actor, it’s a big thing to do, and we’re really excited to have him on board. His energy is energizing us, so to speak.”

In a lengthy post on his Instagram account, Ranveer gushed about this being a childhood dream that he was selected to perform the role of the iconic villain, previously played by Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

“As a child I fell in love with the movies, and like the rest of us,” gushed the ‘Rocky and Rani ki prem kahani actor. “Watching and worshipping Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan – the two G.O.A.Ts of Hindi Cinema. I dreamed of growing up to be like them. They are the very reason I wanted to become an actor and a ‘hindi film hero’. Their impact and influence on my life cannot be overstated. They’ve shaped the person and actor that I am. Taking their legacy forward is a manifestation of my childhood dream.”
