‘I refused anti-state roles’; Sajid Hasan on Bollywood offers

Veteran actor Sajid Hasan was invited as a guest on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast ‘Excuse Me’.

During the recording, Sajid discussed his relationship with Sahira and Rahat Kazmi on the ground-breaking series ‘Dhoop Kinare’, which was a major turning point in his career.

He also discussed declining parts that would have encouraged an anti-Indian attitude.
Speaking about the reasons behind his dislike of actors portraying anti-state roles, he said, “I’m disappointed with Tiger 3, which I’m currently watching, as it contains harmful stereotypes and biased content against Pakistan. I strongly dislike this approach and believe it’s unfair to actors. Even when I was new to the industry and faced pressure to play such roles, I’ve always rejected them. I believe our relationships with people from other countries should be respectful and positive, even if we disagree with their views. Moreover, I urge Pakistanis to appreciate the freedom we have, which was fought for by Quaid E Azam, and recognize the value of living without oppression, as I personally experienced suffocation during my time in India.”

Indian celebrities, journalists complain of not being allowed to vote in elections

Elections in India are entering the last phase, with polling in Mumbai on Monday. While there was a buzz surrounding celebrities coming out to vote in India’s tinsel town, complaints of celebrities and journalists not being able to vote surfaced. It was overwhelmingly stated that their name was not on the voting list while they have been voting for decades.

Actress Vidya Maladev, famous for her role in Netflix series Mismatched complained about what she said was really “upsetting” as she was not able to vote because she could not find her name in the voting list.

Famous singer and musician Amit Trivedi also posted a video with the caption, “Voting is our constitutional right. Today I was denied that right and I feel helpless.”

Actress and model Gauhar Khan vented out her frustration of being denied the right to vote in a video where she was seen saying, “Why do we have Adhaar Cards (voting cards) when we are not considered citizens enough.”

Journalist Rana Ayyub, who is also vocal about intolerance in India towards Muslim community, posted an Instagram story stating that she went with her family to vote and their names were missing from the voters list in Nayi Mumbai area despite the fact that they have been voting in this constituency for the last eighteen years. “Never missed a vote since I turned 18. Frustrating to say the least.”

Producer and Entrepreneur Gayatri Pahlajani posted on X, “After having voted in not one but four general elections, my name has been struck off the voting list.”

Reports of low voting turnout in many states have emerged in Indian media.

Muslims not able to find their names in the voting list made rounds on social media during the elections in Gujrat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state.

Haroon Khan posted on May 6 that the names of 575 Muslim fisherman in Gujrat were deleted from the voters list. “Is this beginning of a “Hindu Rashtra” by snatching voting rights from Muslims?”, he posted.

Journalist Radhika Bordia posted a video of a Muslim man from UP who was denied the right to cast a vote as his name wasn’t missing from the voting list.

Videos of both Muslim women complaining about their voting cards being downplayed as fake and them being dragged by the same police to not allow them to vote also emerged.

All of this poses a big question mark over the transparency and effectiveness of the election process in India.

  • Mishi Khan, Abrar ul Haq continue with their spat over Bollywood

Mishi Khan, Abrar ul Haq continue with their spat over Bollywood

As people who like drama and gossip, we were entertained by actor Mishi Khan and singer Abrarul Haq trading blows. But the war of words is now getting to be a bit repetitive. After Abrarul Haq responded to Mishi’s earlier comments about his Bollywood claims, Mishi posted another video on her Instagram, along with a caption making fun of the Bilo singer. She asked why he talked about a project he was offered 12 years ago. She wondered why he brought it up now when it doesn’t matter anymore.

Mishi continued to criticize Abrar for struggling to say her name in his video. She said he seemed like he was reading from a script, and she didn’t feel sorry for what she said before. “Yes, I laughed at you, and I admit that,” she said. “But do you remember when I supported you when you were a teacher? Nobody knew you then! You even appeared on my channel once!”

Expressing her feelings in her caption, Mishi said, “Stay focused and don’t act like you don’t know me. Whoever gave you the script did a bad job. Yes, I made fun of it because I thought it was funny. Just because we’re in the same industry doesn’t mean I have to say yes or agree with everything. I was never overly polite.” Finishing her post, Mishi added, “For me, the Bollywood offer was recent news because I’m not your obsessed fan keeping track of your offers. I hope you remember my name. It’s not Mushy, it’s Mishi.”

For those who don’t know, the singer recently said in an interview that he turned down a chance to act in Bollywood alongside Katrina Kaif because the movie didn’t match his moral beliefs. Mishi then questioned why Abrar didn’t talk about this before. Abrar responded with his own video, questioning the morals of those who see a Bollywood offer as an honor and asked people to focus on his charity work instead. Whether Abrar will respond to Mishi’s second attack with another video is uncertain.
