Nine cops suspended for harassing Johny & Jugnu staff for refusing ‘free burgers’

Lahore police have suspended its nine officials on Sunday for harassing and illegally detaining Lahore restaurant, Johny & Jungu’s staff for ‘refusing for burgers’.

As per reports,  at least nine police officials including a station house officer (SHO) were suspended for illegally arresting employees of the restaurant in DHA after they refused to give “free burgers” to the cops.

A few days before the incident, some police officers went to the eatery ‘Johnny and Jugnu’ located in DHA Phase-6 and tried to get burgers for free.

The cops left after they were refused by the staff and returned later on Friday night only to arrest the staff members of the restaurant for reasons that the outlet claimed as “baseless and unjust”.

After the news did rounds, Punjab Inspector General Inam Ghani ordered to suspend all officials involved in the incident for the abuse of  power.

The Punjab police chief also directed the Lahore CCPO to take strict departmental and legal action against the officials involved in the incident without any delay, according to a statement.

He further stated that the “officers and personnel involved in illegal activities do not deserve any concession so no leniency should be given in taking action against those responsible after the inquiry.”

The restaurant also took to social media to tell the incident with details, “This was not the first time something like this has happened with our kitchen teams at our restaurant but we want to make sure this is the last. Yesterday night, around 1am our kitchen teams were taken into custody by the Police.”

The statement of the restaurant added, “19 of our innocent crew members were kept locked up at the [police] station for the entire night, without any basis, as per orders from their SHO.”

They further stated that this happened because they refused to give burgers to someone “very special,”

On June 11, for almost seven hours in the night, “they (policemen) kept our team locked up, harassing them, pushing them around, all for not giving them free burgers, for not entertaining a ‘request from a very high profile special guest’”, the restaurant said

“What’s more interesting, is that she either remembered the PIN codes of all the cards or must have had them saved on her phone because not one code was wrong,” he added.

The manager said that the lady was handed a bill of Rs28,600 and walked away with a whopping 208 burgers.

200 kgs of dead frogs recovered, were to be used by Lahore eateries?

After the entire donkey meat episode, Lahore police have recovered 200 kgs of dead frogs, which reports claim were to be used in burgers and shawarmas across the provincial capital of Punjab.

According to a newspaper clipping doing rounds on social media, police caught a rickshaw loaded with 200 kgs of dead frogs being transported to an unknown location.

Patrolling in the New Ravi Bridge area, police noticed a shady rickshaw carrying a heavy sack, the report said and added that when the cops attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects tried to flee.

Managing to stop the rickshaw, the police took two people, namely Shahid and Manzoor, into custody for allegedly delivering dead frogs to restaurants across the city.

An investigation is underway to determine what the frogs were to be used for, while suspects claim they were “only delivering the frogs to a medical college”. Medical students dissect the frogs and practice suturing on them.

Other reports claim the police only stopped the men because they thought the frogs were of some rare species. Having the frogs is not a crime and neither the police nor the Punjab Wildlife Department has any issue with the case. “The men were released and were free to go with their frogs.”

  • Does No Lies Fries live up to the hype?

Does No Lies Fries live up to the hype?

No Lies Fries is late to the game. The gourmet burgers and fries came into existence a century ago and left Karachi two years ago with Burger Lab, Oh My Grill and Juicy Lucy. Though some did come close to the Holy Grail of burgers – Shake Shack – others were a miss. After hearing rave reviews on No Lies Fries, I wondered could it be? Had they cracked the Shake Shack code?

The NLF: beef patty, lettuce and secret sauce

Sadly, no. They’re close. But they’re drying their meat out by overcooking it and assuming their secret sauce will hold it together. But those extra 40 seconds on the grill only shock the patty into becoming plain boring. The ‘secret sauce’ doesn’t really need to be a secret since it’s nothing earth-shattering.

The only shake in their shack is that perfectly perfect potato bun. Oh my, what a bun. I disassembled the burger and tried the soft potato goodness on its own and it’s legit, the best bun in town.

The Crispy Chick: fried chicken, secret sauce, jalapenos and cheese

The Crispy Chick, a fried chicken burger, didn’t get the slather of the secret sauce that was needed but it was fried to perfection. Depends on how crisp you like your chicken though. This was perfect. A not so thin layer of breadcrumbs resulted in a perfectly cooked chicken breast with that oh-so-delicious potato bun. The Crispy Chick isn’t KFC level, but then again I don’t particularly enjoy the fat layer of crispy crumbs which tend to overcook the chicken.

Coming onto their main item. The guy taking the order recommended the Authentic Canadian Poutine but I really wish he hadn’t. The dish on its own didn’t come together and it seemed that the creators of this one expect that customers, (mostly Canadian returns) will be wowed by the thought of Canadian poutine rather than the work that goes into it.

A decent (but too thick) beef gravy, cheese curds and fries, it lacked the flavour of traditional Canadian poutine, which is made by the gravy.

    Authentic Canadian Poutine Fries

So are they lying? People expect that the juiciest details, the final verdict is usually delivered in the first few paragraphs. But something as inconsequential, as common, as Alanis Morrisette Ironic can be picked up, bitten into and make you do a 180.

    Belgian Frites

No Lies Fries Belgian Frites are out of this world. Thick cut fries, Gordon Ramsay level cooked, crisp and aggressively seasoned, they are without an atom of a doubt, the best fries in Karachi. Their burgers might lie, but those simple fries definitely don’t. This just goes to show that secret sauces, shake shack references, Canadian copies won’t get you anywhere but a side item can make you live up to your name.

(On a side note: the burger doesn’t come with fries; they are sold separately. And with a burger starting at Rs. 560, it’s really not the best deal in town).
