‘Want India and Pakistan on set together,’: Producer of Barzakh Shailja Kejriwal

Shailja Kejriwal, the chief creative officer at Zee Entertainment’s Zindagi channel, is on a mission to unite Indian and Pakistani artists and writers.
In a recent interview with Press Trust of India, Kejriwal expressed her desire to see more collaborations between talents from both countries, despite the challenges posed by political tensions.

Shailja Kejriwal said, “My ultimate desire, I don’t know whether it will happen or not, is that we collaborate… writers and artists from both sides should be on a set together. I am trying to follow that path. Hopefully, we will be able to do something because we flourish more if we are open and inclusive.”

It has been a journey of one step forward, two steps back for the producer who was instrumental in making Pakistani actors like Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed, and Mahira Khan household names in India by showcasing dramas such as Zindagi Gulzar Hai and Humsafar through the Zindagi platform launched in 2014.

The channel Zindagi, led by Kejriwal, has successfully produced a number of projects with Pakistani actors and directors. Popular series like Qatil Haseenaon Ke Naam, Churails, Mrs. & Mr. Shameem, and the new web series Barzakh starring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed are among the noteworthy productions. The channel has aired iconic Pakistani dramas like ‘Thakan’, Shukk, Pyarey Afzal, Meri Beti, Mere Harjai, and Main Bushra.

    Kejriwal highlighted her commitment

“I felt my work would be incomplete if I didn’t play a role in bringing these artists back. My ambition extends beyond just pan India. My dream is to unite South Asians and Asians through collaboration,” Shailja added.

‘If you find queer storylines distasteful, do not watch my content’: Asim Abbasi refuses to censor ‘Barzakh’

Director Asim Abbasi sent a clear message to the critics of his web series ‘Barzakh’.
Asim Abbasi shared a picture of the show on his Instagram story, where a person replied saying, “Please don’t add more to the fire by saying he ‘chose’ Saifu. They’re asking to boycott the show, and you’re giving them more reasons to so it. Glorifying these characters in the name of art is distasteful. It was wrong churails, its wrong here.”

On which Asim Abbasi, who is also the writer of Barzakh, replied, “With all due respect, if you find queer non-heteronormative storylines distasteful please do not watch my content.”
Fawad Khan is playing the characters Saifullah and Lorenzo. The statement comes in response to a scene in episode 3 featuring an almost kissing moment between two male characters.

Asim Abbasi tagged the producers of web series with the caption on his story, “Shailja Kejriwal Waqas Ali and I will always champion rights of all, and tell stories that we believe in.”

The main plot of Barzakh is to explore the mysteries of life, the afterlife, and the enduring power of love. Set in the beautiful Hunza Valley, the story follows a 76-year-old recluse who invites his estranged children and grandchildren to his remote valley resort for a special event his wedding to the ghost of his first true love.

Birthday cake helps two brothers escape leopard

Two brothers in India escaped from a leopard by throwing a birthday cake at the animal as it chased them while they were on a motorbike.

“Your first instinct when you sense danger is to do whatever you can to save yourself. That’s what they did,” a forest official told AFP.

“They had a cake with them and they threw it at the leopard.”

As per reports, Firoz and Sabir Mansuri were going to a birthday party for Firoz’s son in Madhya Pradesh state when the leopard came out of a sugarcane field.

They rode their bike faster but the big cat kept on chasing them. One of the brothers smacked the cake in the leopard’s face. Hit by the “weapon of sweet distraction”, the big cat gave up its chase and ran back into the fields.

Family-friendly movies to watch this Eid on Netflix

We rounded up a list of family-friendly movies you should NOT watch with the family, so here’s a list of films you can and should watch with the fam this Eid.

    Cake

One of the best films to come out of the Pakistani entertainment industry, Cake perfectly highlights complex dynamics in family relationships. Featuring Sanam Saeed, Aamina Sheikh, Adnan Malik, Mohammad Ahmed, Beo Zafar Rana and Mikaal Zulfiqar in the lead, Cake follows a family who comes together when the family patriarch suffers from a heart attack, bringing to the front secrets that were best left in the past.

    Teefa in Trouble

This comic caper has all the ingredients of a masala action comedy with some stunning cinematography, great songs and witty one-liners. Highly recommended.

    Chupan Chupai

Another action-comedy, Chupan Chupai features Ahsan Khan, Neelam Muneer and Faizan Khwaja in the lead and follows three friends, Feddy (Zayed Sheikh), Koki (Ali Rizvi), and Teli who cross paths with Babu (Ahsan Khan) and his girlfriend, Pari (Neelam Muneer). Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

The third installment in the Jumanji franchise, the film focuses on a group of teenagers who come across Jumanji—now transformed into a video game—twenty-one years after the events of the 1995 film. They find themselves trapped in the game as a set of adult avatars, seeking to complete a quest alongside another player who has been trapped since 1996.

Featuring Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia and Preity Zinta, the film has been directed by Farhan Akhtar. Those going through transitional phases in their lives will have a lot to take away from the film.

    3 Idiots

One of the best films to come out of Bollywood, 3 Idiots is about three friends and their antics in college life. While being highly entertaining, the film featuring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor and Boman Irani, is also very thought-provoking. Woman dies during cake-eating contest

A woman died while taking part in a cake-eating competition to celebrate Australia Day.

Paramedics were called to a pub in the state of Queensland on Sunday afternoon after a woman was involved in a “medical incident”.

Public broadcaster ABC reported the 60-year-old had a seizure after she “shovelled a lamington into her mouth”.

Lamingtons, a traditional Australian dessert, are cube-shaped sponge cakes dipped in chocolate and covered in grated coconut.

The woman was rushed to hospital in the coastal town of Hervey Bay but couldn’t survive.

She was a contestant in the Beach House Hotel’s annual Australia Day lamington and meat pie eating contest.

In a post on Facebook, management and staff offered their “deepest condolences” to the woman’s friends and family.

“We acknowledge and thank our supportive patrons, staff, and the Queensland Ambulance Service for their prompt and professional response while this tragic incident was unfolding,” the post said.

“The hotel staff have been offered professional support while our thoughts firmly remain with the family at this challenging time.”

Police said the death was not suspicious and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

  • Adnan Malik opens up about depression and why he doesn’t act that much

Adnan Malik opens up about depression and why he doesn’t act that much

We may not see much iof him on our television screens but Adnan Malik sure has made a mark ever since he made his television debut opposite Mahira Khan in Sadqay Tumharay. The immensely popular drama was directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin and written by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar and based on his own life story.

Brother of Baaji director Saqib Malik, Adnan has only a handful of projects under his belt, but each one of them have been meaningful and offbeat – for instance Cake, which was also his last project. Apart from that, the actor is popular for his woke and eloquent comments.

While we wondered why Adnan is missing from the scene, the actor took to social media to pen an emotional note in which he narrated his life story, his battle with low self-esteem, how he ended up doing Sadqay Tumharay and why he doesn’t want to do just any project.

“I see acting as a way to honour myself, to connect to a deeper spiritual self and a way to confront my own demons. I can’t take it lightly.”
