    CCTV footage debunks claims of Rangers’ vehicle crushing security personnel

    The release of a CCTV footage on social media has rubbished earlier claims that four Rangers personnel were crushed by security vehicles amid violent protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in and around Islamabad.

    The PTI, on founder Imran Khan’s call, has marched on the federal capital in protests that went violent with clashes between party workers and law enforcement personnel. The law and order situation took a turn for the worse as at least four Rangers personnel and two cops were martyred on Tuesday morning at around 3 am.

    With law enforcement claiming that the Rangers personnel were crushed by a fast-moving vehicle from one of PTI’s convoys, the party claimed that the vehicle belonged to paramilitary personnel themselves.

    Safeer Ali, an eyewitness of the incident and brother of the civilian who was also killed in the incident near Islamabad’s Chongi Number 26, claimed that he looked on as “fleeing police and Rangers deliberately ran people over as they sped away”.


    The claim, which went viral after Ali’s interview to senior journalist Matiullah Jan outside Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), was, however, debunked after the release of CCTV footage of the incident.

    The CCTV footage showed a Rangers check-post with a group of paramilitary troops standing at ease. In the background, a private vehicle can be seen crushing a separate group of Rangers personnel as it speeds away.

    “The video clearly shows that the witness lied about the details of the incident in his interview. He had said that, ‘I was standing there with my brother and PTI supporter who was a former FC [Frontier Constabulary] soldier. Rangers crushed him while fleeing. [The video shows] no witnesses or Rangers fleeing. They are standing at ease,” journalist Waseem Abbasi wrote while sharing the CCTV on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

    Meanwhile, the federal government, in wake of violent protests and deaths of security personnel, has deployed army in Islamabad by invoking Article 245 of the Constitution. 

    A notification issued by the Interior Ministry said that army has been authorised to impose a curfew in any locality deemed necessary to maintain law and order.

    Security forces have also reportedly been authorised to shoot miscreants and rioters on sight.

    By the time this report was filed, PTI demonstrators had reached their destination, D-Chowk, amid intense tear-gas shelling.

    The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has successfully recovered a missing pouch containing $9,500, equivalent to Rs2.7 million, belonging to a passenger who arrived in Islamabad from the United States.

    Anwar Aman and his family arrived in Islamabad via flight QR-632, as confirmed by a CAA official. Upon retrieving his bags from the belt in the lounge, he inadvertently left his handbag on the chair.

    At around 2:30 am, Aman left the welcome area with his belongings. However, upon returning to the airport at 3 am, he discovered that his pouch was missing. After an unsuccessful attempt to locate the pouch himself, he reported the matter to the authorities and requested that CCTV footage be checked. Unfortunately, there was no CCTV surveillance in the location where the pouch was lost.

    Subsequently, the Adviser to the Prime Minister, Aun Chaudhry, was contacted, and CAA Vigilance Assistant Rab Nawaz was instructed to investigate the matter through CCTV footage. The CAA team then proceeded to check each passenger with the help of cameras, and a particular family was suspected. As a result, data was collected from the female passenger and her other family members, and the husband of the female passenger in the UK was contacted and informed of the entire incident.

    Eventually, the CAA team was able to recover the pouch containing $9,500 from the woman. The currency, worth Rs2.7 million, was then handed over to its owner, Anwar Aman.

    Pemra orders TV channels to stop airing CCTV footage of Noor in Zahir Jaffer’s house

    The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Sunday has issued a notice to TV channels asking them to stop broadcasting CCTV footage of Noor Mukadam.

    The issued notification states that the “telecast of CCTV footage” of Noor and Zahir has been prohibited under Section 27 of the Pemra Ordinance, 2002. Pemra also warned strict action against the violators.

    The CCTV footage of Noor Mukadam from the house of Zahir Jaffer, the prime suspect in her murder has been also making rounds on social media.

    On November 9, the prosecution in the Noor Mukadam murder case submitted the transcript of the CCTV footage of Zahir’s house in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani, which shows the events that led to Noor’s brutal murder. The CCTV footage revealed that Noor tried to run away from Zahir Jaffer’s house twice before she was murdered.

    Noor was found murdered at a residence in Islamabad’s upscale Sector F-7/4 on July 20. Her death sparked national outrage, including protests and candlelight vigils across the country.

    The two German Shepherds that attacked a lawyer in Karachi last month will be “euthanized”, according to a compromise agreement between the dogs’ owner and the victim.

    Rights activists call the agreement between Humayun Khan and Mirza Akhtar Ali Advocate preposterous.

    As per reports, Khan’s dogs attacked the lawyer when he was out on a morning walk. The CCTV footage of the incident showed the two dogs attacking the Mirza Akhtar as he helplessly attempted to defend himself.

    Mirza Akhtar “agreed for the sake of Allah [to] forgive Humayun Khan”, reads the agreement between the two parties.

    “The two dogs involved in the incident will be euthanised/put down by a veterinarian immediately. Any other such dogs that Humayun Khan has, he shall give them away,” states one of the conditions of the agreement.

    The agreement between the two parties further states that Humayun will tender an “unconditional apology” to Mirza Akhtar for the “hurt and injury caused to him”.

    Another condition states that the dog owner will register any other dogs with the Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) and not allow them to come on the street unless they are with a “properly trained handler.”

    The agreement concludes on a clause that Humayun will donate Rs1 million to a local animal shelter, ACF Animal Rescue.

    The case was registered at the Darakhshan police station and Humayun was granted a bail before arrest while his employess were in police custody.

    A Dubai salesman has been sentenced to two years in prison for setting a textile shop on fire, causing losses of nearly Dh1 million to the owner.

    As per reports, the 27-year-old salesman from Afghanistan was fined Dh985,000 fine. He will be expelled after he has served his sentence.

    He reportedly wanted to take revenge from the owner, who did not pay his salary for a year. In December last year, the defendant went to the shop and unlocked the shop using a cutter. He accused the owner didn’t pay his salary for one year. He expected to find some cash inside the shop, but couldn’t find any.

    The suspect told Dubai Police that he found a lighter inside the shop and decided to set the textile shop on fire in vengeance.

    The shop’s owner testified that he checked the CCTV footage in the area and saw the defendant braking into the shop. “I was alerted about the fire and discovered that the defendant was responsible. He damaged the lock and the glass door before setting the shop on fire,” the 40-year-old Pakistani owner said.

    Dubai Public Prosecution charged the defendant with setting fire to a property and causing damages worth Dh985,000. The verdict will be subject to appeal within 15 days.
