  • Throwback: Kate Middleton stunned Prince Harry with a ‘bold’ joke present at Christmas

Kate Middleton picked a hilarious Christmas gift for Prince Harry some years ago, according to the Mirror.

The Duchess of Cambridge decided to buy Prince Harry a rather bold present as a joke, before Harry started dating Meghan Markle and was single, following a string of high-profile relationships.

She gave her brother-in-law a ‘grow-your-own-girlfriend’ kit. According to the report, Prince Harry was taken by complete surprise.

Other gifts exchanged over the years have included a leather toilet seat for Prince Charles and a shower cap for the Queen with ‘ain’t life a b****’ emblazoned across it.

Prince Harry has moved to the United States (US) with Meghan Markle, following a family dispute.

  • ‘It’s difficult to keep a straight face’: Prince William gets candid about Christmas morning at church

Prince William spoke about his childhood memories as he reflected on his life for the upcoming Christmas church visits.

The prince also shared his cherishing memories of Christmas morning during his interaction on the Apple Fitness + podcast Time to walk.

He said, “What’s very good about it is that we sit opposite each other as a family, and growing up, having my cousins sit opposite me has always been quite difficult to keep a straight face at times.”

“I have had the giggles many, many times in the service. Luckily, no one’s filming it. So you can get away with it, and on Christmas Day, it’s fun to have a giggle and enjoy yourself.”

The prince also recalled moments from his childhood where he’d make the walk from the church to the main house and added, “I have strong memories of walking down here, and my grandfather, he used to walk so fast that there’d be huge gaps and spaces between all of us walking down, and there’d be us at the back with little legs trying to keep up.”

“You know, I think, over time, you start to feel quite attached to those moments and those memories before,” said Prince William.

  • Pakistani origin doctor wipes away $650,000 debt of 200 cancer patients in US

Pakistani origin doctor wipes away $650,000 debt of 200 cancer patients in US

A doctor of Pakistani origin in the United States of America Dr Omar Atiq waived of $650,000 in debt for nearly 200 of his patients with cancer. Dr Atiq, an oncologist who founded a cancer treatment centre in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, sent out a holiday greeting to patients before Christmas, announcing that their outstanding payments would be cleared.

“I hope this note finds you well. The Arkansas Cancer Clinic was proud to serve you as a patient. Although various health insurers pay most of the bills for [the] majority of patients, even the deductibles and co-pays can be burdensome,” the card read.

“The clinic has decided to forego all balances owed to the clinic by its patients. Happy Holidays.”

As per details, Dr Atiq’s clinic provided cancer treatments including chemotherapy, radiation therapy and diagnostics. It was closed in late February due to staff shortage.

The outstanding amount was nearly $650,000 (Rs 104,645,320). However, the clinic worked with a billing company to cancel the debt.

“We thought there was not a better time to do this than during a pandemic that has decimated homes, people’s lives and businesses and all sorts of stuff,” said Dr Atiq. “We just thought we could do it, and we wanted to, so we went ahead and did it.”

“Being sick is hard, having cancer is harder, and having cancer in this pandemic is devastating. I am just a regular physician—a regular person that they have in the neighbourhood—just so happens to be me standing here. The ones struggling couldn’t pay, so we thought we could just write off the debt.”

“It is really fate,” he said, referring to the decision to move. “We have been very grateful. This has been home for a long time. We are grateful for the opportunity for what has happened to our lives here.”

Atiq said he was happy to give his patients a bit of relief.

“I love them, I care for them and I am glad I was able to do a little bit at this point for them,” he added.

The Arkansas Medical Society President said his clinic, in part, amassed the outstanding debt because “we have never refused to see a patient.”

“Not for lack of health insurance or funds nor for any other reason,” he said. “I’ve always considered it a high honor and privilege to be someone’s physician—more important than anything else.”

  • Canadian-Muslim’s ‘anthropological observations’ on Christmas go viral

Canadian-Muslim’s ‘anthropological observations’ on Christmas go viral

A Muslim man in Canada, who could not go to his family over the holidays due to the lockdown celebrated Christmas, for the first time and his heart-warming Twitter thread of ‘observations’ has gone viral on social media.

Mohammad Hussain, who works as a special assistant for parliamentary affairs at the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Industry, expressing his views on the holidays said: “Growing up, my Muslim family never celebrated Christmas.”

“This year I am not going home, because pandemic, so my roommates are teaching me how to have my first proper Christmas,” he continued. “I am approaching this with anthropological precision.”

Hussain then listed a few things he had observed about the way his roommates celebrated the event.

Hussain remarked that people spent more than their budget and that people had Christmas tree ornaments that were either ‘fillers’ or ‘keepers’.

“The fillers are the generic ones. The keepers are meant to be more special and unique. This second stream is stored in your family’s reliquary to be one day passed on to the children,” he shared.

Encouraged by his roommates to buy his own ‘keeper’ ornament, he bought a bagel decoration and was clearly not happy with the cost of it.

“That cost me $15.99. That’s more than three everything bagels. I am furious,” he wrote. “For what it cost, you best believe that I am insisting that it be passed on to my great grandchildren. If they break it I will haunt them.”

Hussain concluded his post by applauding Christmas celebrators. “This is a lot of work and very tiring.”

“I will say I am having a very pleasant time. I am learning that I enjoy Christmas music and gift purchasing. I am also learning that I do not enjoy peppermint.”

Hussain’s Twitter thread was liked by 170,000 people in less than 24 hours and widely shared on social media.

  • We are celebrating Christmas

    We are celebrating Christmas

In his first presidential address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan, Quaide Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah said, “Now if we want to make this great State of Pakistan happy and prosperous, we should wholly and solely concentrate on the well-being of the people, and especially of the masses and the poor […] if you change your past and work together in a spirit that every one of you, no matter to what community he belongs, no matter what relations he had with you in the past, no matter what is his colour, caste or creed, is first, second and last a citizen of this state with equal rights, privileges and obligations, there will be no end to the progress you will make.”

The Quaid made a case for equality of all citizens of Pakistan regardless of their colour, caste, or creed.

In the same speech, he said, “I think we should keep that in front of us as our ideal and you will find that in course of time Hindus would cease to be Hindus and Muslims would cease to be Muslims, not in the religious sense, because that is the personal faith of each individual, but in the political sense as citizens of the State.”

Christmas is just around the corner. We must remember Jinnah’s words. We must keep this in mind if we want Pakistan to progress. Recently we saw the case of a minor Christian girl Arzoo Raja’s forced conversion and underage marriage. Both the Sindh government and the federal government played their part in ensuring that justice was served. Every year, we see hundreds of cases of forced conversions in the country, most of them young Hindu and Christian girls. This is a worrying trend.

Christians, Hindus and people belonging to other minority faiths have equal rights as citizens of Pakistan according to our Constitution. Unfortunately, we see discrimination against minorities around us all the time. From giving separate utensils to minority workers at our homes, workplaces to using derogatory terms for them, we show our bigotry and racism without even acknowledging it. We casually remark on people’s colour or caste or religion without realising how wrong it is.

On this Christmas Day, and every other religious celebration of minorities, we should ensure that we don’t discriminate. Due to COVID-19, this year’s celebrations may not be as festive as in the past but through kindness and interfaith harmony, we can spread a message of love and cheer.
