    CJP Isa doesn’t want extension in his tenure, says Azam Nazeer Tarar

    Law minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said on Saturday that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa informed him that he doesn’t want to stay the top judge longer than his current term, Geo News reported.

    Tarar said on Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’ that CJP told him in the presence of the Attorney and General that he doesn’t want an extension in his tenure.

    “I told him (CJP) no such thing is happening at all,” Azam Nazeer said, adding that the CJP then praised him for clarifying the issue.    

    Tarar also said that he told the CJP about pension reforms, which comprised a recommendation to increase the age of retirement by two years, applying to all the sectors.

    Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa addressed a climate change conference hosted by the Supreme Court on June 8, calling for adopting environment-friendly measures and a healthy lifestyle to cope with climate change.

    “[Justice] Mansoor Ali Shah talked about hybrid vehicles here, but we must walk. Bicycles can be provided to all judges if they want,” said the CJP.

    Justice Isa pointed out the lack of a solid mechanism to dispose of plastic products worldwide.

    “We failed to understand nature and we need to rebuild the values for environmental protection from our homes. The natural environment can be saved from further destruction by avoiding wastage of resources,” said CJP Isa.

    PTI will never allow any legislation for CJP Isa’s extension

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser has stated that his party will not allow any “politically motivated” constitutional change that would pave the way for extending the tenure of Chief Justice of Pakistan.

    His statement came after Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar’s statements hinted at judicial reforms that would change the traditional approach to selecting judges for the Supreme Court as well as high courts.

    “We will not allow any such legislation. There are political motives behind it,” said the Asad Qaiser.

    According to media reports, the government was mulling that the tenure of the top judge should extend to a fixed term, besides judicial reforms.

    It should be noted that CJP Isa had assumed charge of the top court in September 2023 and will retire in October 2024.

    Meher Bano Qureshi, a prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member, recently admitted on a podcast with journalist Mansoor Ali Khan that things “went wrong” with political rival and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) head Nawaz Sharif.

    Qureshi expressed disappointment at the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, saying she “Believed CJP Isa wouldn’t do something against the law.”

    Mansoor asked the PTI leader if she has reservations with CJP Isa then she should have the same stance against ex-CJP Saqib Nisar and his rulings against Nawaz Sharif.

    Meher Bano admitted that whatever was done to Nawaz Sharif was wrong but said “Two wrongs don’t make a right.”

    PTI alleges CJP Isa insincere with judicial ‘interference’ issue

    Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) central information secretary Raoof Hasan, on Wednesday, expressed concern over the conduct of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa during Supreme Court proceedings on the issue of interference by spy agencies in the judiciary.

    PTI demanded that a full court be constituted to hear the matter on a daily basis, and more importantly, that CJP Isa should disassociate himself from the bench.

    Raoof Hasan was accompanied by the former chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khursheed and PTI advocate Abuzar Salman Niazi.

    The secretary information remarked that the six judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC) asked the CJP for help but the Chief Justice referred it to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

    He said one should not forget that the PM and operatives of intelligence agencies were among those implicated in the matter.
