    Cleric arrested on charges of raping at least three madrassa students

    A cleric who raped children at least three madrassa students was arrested in the Bhutta Wahan area of ​​Rahim Yar Khan, reports Geo Urdu. The rape survivors are aged between 10 to 12 years.

    According to the police, the initial medical report of three children proved that they were being raped.

    The affected children told the media that the cleric had raped six madrassa children so far and threatened to kill them if they told their families about the sexual abuse.

    The families of the children who were raped demanded that strict action should be taken against the cleric and he should be hanged. They said that their children refused to go to the madrassa and revealed that the cleric sexually abused them.

    The madrassa cleric fled from the area. However, a case was registered against him and raids were conducted in order to arrest him.

    In June, the Punjab government said that they would declare an emergency following an increase in rape and sodomy cases in the province.

  • Police arrest cleric for allegedly raping teenage student

    Police have arrested a seminary teacher accused of raping and torturing a student in Rawalpindi’s Pirwadhai.

    As per reports, the Pirwadhai police registered a first information report (FIR) against Mufti Shahnawaz Ahmed on the complaint of the victim’s father. He has been booked in another case for resisting arrest.

    He had gotten pre-arrest interim bail from the relevant court to avoid arrest.

    Rawalpindi Police wrote in a tweet that the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rawal will supervise the probe, while merit will be ensured. The victim’s father stated that he had received a phone call from the management of the seminary, asking him to pick up his daughter who had fainted.

    The young girl told what had happened after she regained her consciousness saying the teacher had been trying to harass her for the past several months.

    She said that the teacher tortured her after she resisted his attempts of sexual harassment. She was then given a drug after which she fainted and didn’t remember what happened after that, the complainant said.

    Local clerics in the Tirah Valley in Khyber district have issued a new set of restrictions for tourists.     Waseem Riaz, the district police officer, told Samaa that he had called the clerics to the police station but they all distanced themselves from the directives.

  • Cleric arrested for selling meth to students, saying ‘it’ll help study Quran better’

    A cleric has been arrested for selling meth to his students, claiming it would “help them study and recite the Quran better”.

    According to The Star, the religious leader from Madura, Northeast Java in Indonesia had been selling the drug to his students at an Islamic boarding school and reasoned that it was permissible under Islamic law.

    Being an avid drug user himself, Ahmad Marzuki managed to avoid the police for two months after they learned of his actions.

    Despite being a fugitive, the religious leader still taught at other Islamic boarding schools in Surabaya and Mojokerto cities.

    On January 20, authorities finally managed to capture him when he was attending a funeral in Madura. Police officers located Marzuki and two other drug users at his home where they found a small quantity of the substance and other drug paraphernalia.

    After he was arrested, Marzuki said he knew meth is illegal under Indonesian laws, but found “no evidence against it in the Quran”.

    K.H. Said Aqiel Siradj, head of Nahdlatul Ulama — Indonesia’s largest independent Islamic organisation — on the other hand, said that while the Quran does not explicitly mention the drug, the religious text’s verses should be interpreted with a consensus among Islamic scholars and deductive analogy.

    Meanwhile, Marzuki will be charged under the Indonesian Narcotics Law. He reportedly also faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of 10 billion Indonesian rupiahs (PKR112 million).
