This clothing brand’s new campaign is creating awareness about reading your Nikkahnama before signing it

Clothing brand Generation, in collaboration with Centre For Human Rights, has launched a campaign to create awareness about the legal aspects of a Nikkahnama and the importance of reading it before signing.

One of the posts talk about the legal aspect of officiating a Nikkah. “Your Nikkah can be officiated by any adult, a cleric, your favourite aunt, your best friend or whoever you choose and trust to have your best interests at heart can officiate your Nikkah and it will be legal and binding according to Pakistani law.”

Another post reads about the little known fact about the bride’s right to encapsulate special conditions in the Nikkahnama.

“Did you know? As the bride entering a marriage, you can add any sort of special conditions to the Nikkahnama, they could be as cute as going on a vacation every few months or as serious as reserving the right to education and continue working after marriage. Pakistani law also empowers you to ask for delegated right to divorce, a much simpler process in comparison to Khula.”

“However it is imperative to not have the section crossed out in your Nikkahnama.”

The campaign also talks about the groom’s right to enter special conditions.

The campaign is being lauded by most people. However, it is also getting criticism from some sections of society for unconventional thinking. One social media user criticised the campaign, saying, “Women can not officiate a Nikkah.

  • ‘Not a film set, apologise’: Fawad Chaudhry lashes out at model for posing at Kartarpur bareheaded

‘Not a film set, apologise’: Fawad Chaudhry lashes out at model for posing at Kartarpur bareheaded

Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan Fawad Chaudhry has lashed out at a model for hurting the Sikh community after she posed ‘bareheaded’ for a clothing ad at the Kartarpur Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

Taking to Twitter, the information minister wrote: “The Designer and the model must apologise to Sikh Community. KartarPur Sahib is a religious symbol and not a film set.”

According to reports, the woman who runs Mannat, a ready-to-wear women’s online clothing store in Pakistan, got a photo-shoot done at the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib complex in the recent past with the model posing bareheaded with her back towards the Gurdwara.

In the now-deleted photographs, the woman is seen wearing a red suit posing for the camera without covering her head with the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in the background.

It should be noted that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the single largest representative body of Sikhs, has pasted posters inside the gurdwara complex cautioning devotees not to shoot entertainment videos after a few of them were caught shooting TikTok videos.

Many have criticised the model and demanded her apology. Former president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Paramjit Singh Sarna said in a statement that this is a “highly objectionable” act that has “severely hurt” the Sikh religious sentiments.

Sarna said that he would take up the issue with the Chairman of Pakistan Evacuee Trust Property Board Dr Amar Ahmad on priority and ask him to make the PMU staff aware of the Sikh “rehat maryada” (Sikh code of religious conduct).

He called upon Pakistani authorities to place written instructions in Urdu about Sikh “Maryada”. He also urged the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (PSGPC) and local authorities in Narowal that visitors to the historical shrine must be sensitised about the Sikh code of conduct applicable at gurdwaras.

Last week, several Sikh pilgrims visited the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan on the 552nd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

  • #BoycottZara: Head designer’s alleged Islamophobic remarks create viral trend

Hashtag ‘Boycott Zara’ is trending on Twitter after Palestinian model Qaher Harhash exposed anti-Palestinian and ‘Islamophobic’ conversation with Vanessa Perilman, Head Designer at Zara. Vanessa allegedly sent controversial messages to Qaher in response to pro-Palestine posts by the model from occupied east Jerusalem.

The alleged message sent by Vanessa to Qaher said: “Israelis don’t teach children to hate, nor throw stones at soldiers as your people do. The people in my industry know the truth about Israel and Palestine and I will never stop defending Israel. People like you just come and go in the end.”

“Maybe if your people were educated then they wouldn’t blow up hospitals and schools that Israel helped to pay for in Gaza.”

“I think it’s funny that you’re a model because in reality, that is against what the Muslim faith believes in and if you were to come out of the closet in any Muslim country, you would be stoned to death,” she added.

In the most recent wave of violence, Israel’s bombardment of Gaza killed at least 243 Palestinians, including 66 children, in 11 days and brought widespread devastation to the already impoverished territory. On the Israeli side, 12 people, including two children, were killed.

FACT CHECK: Is Maulana Tariq Jamil selling nara’s for Rs 550?

Khan, who has helmed a variety of ventures besides acting including an interior designing company with wife Fatima Ahsan, decided to venture into the clothing business after years of receiving queries from fans about his outfits and looks.

“A lot of my fans and followers are always asking me and sending me messages about my clothes and outfits,” said Khan, while talking to The Current.

“Messages like ‘Can you tell me where did you get that from?’ or ‘Yeh walay kapray please humain bhej dein‘ have been a regular in my inbox,” said Khan. “That’s where I got the idea that why shouldn’t start my own brand? Why don’t I introduce the kind of clothes I wear in the market? Ones which have my kind of style.”

“A few friends and I got together, discussed this idea and decided to work on it,” shared Ahsan further, adding that he is not personally designing the clothes, but is overlooking the process so that the clothes emulate his style.

The actor further said that he was looking to set up another business to create livelihood.

“I also wanted to set up another business, another venture which would create jobs,” Ahsan told The Current. “There are a lot of people involved in the project including my friends. We have a very talented designer on board and most of our production is being done in Faisalabad.”

When asked who his target market is, Khan said: “I am catering to my awaam. I don’t want to cater to anyone else except the people of Pakistan. My people. Casual normal people who want to wear good clothes so they can feel comfortable and good about themselves comfortable.”

“Marca means ‘brand’ in Italian. So Ahsan Khan Marca means Ahsan Khan Brand,” said Ahsan, adding: “Many people have also understood it as the Urdu marka, which means achievement. So you can take it as that also.”

While the actor was initially planning to launch the brand properly with a store and exhibitions, COVID-19 dampened his plans so he launched the brand online and hopes that he will be able to do a proper launch once the situation becomes better.

  • Fact Check: Is Maulana Tariq Jamil selling nara’s for Rs 550?

Claim: Mualana Tariq Jamil’s company MTJ is selling nara’s for 550 per piece

Fact: MTJ is not selling any nara’s

Just days after Maulana Tariq Jamil’s flagship store opened its doors in Karachi, news of the brand selling nara’s (drawstrings) at a price of more than Rs 500 started circulating on social media with some people criticizing the religious scholar for selling overpriced stuff.

However, according to a press release circulating on social media, the brand has denied the news of selling drawstrings.

“It has come to our notice that MTJ- Tariq Jamil is being accused of selling drawstrings (nara) for Rs.550 apiece,” reads the statement.

“We would like to clarify that the news is fake.”

“We do not manufacture drawstrings (nara) and our stores and website have never placed such article for sale,” the statement added.

“Please beware of spreading false news and help us report those who are involved in this malpractice.”

Maulana Tariq Jamil was criticized for starting his own clothing brand despite being a religious cleric after which he shared a video message on his social media accounts to explain the reason for launching his own brand.

“Since 2000, I had been thinking about starting a business for my religious activities, especially to run a madrassa. During COVID-19’s lockdown, I have the opportunity to put that idea into practice.”

“That was my intention [to make the madrassas self sufficient] and a few of my friends collaborated with me, after which we launched a brand with my name,” he added.
