‘General Faiz Hameed to face Court Martial,’ says Faisal Vawda

Senator Faisal Vawda has said that former Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) chief General (r) Faiz Hameed will face court martial and the punishment he deserves, come what may.

“He [Faiz] will not only be court-martialed but will also be sentenced,” Vawda said while appearing on Samaa’s Nadeem Malik Live.

“Others will also be punished,” Vawda added.

He went on to point out the rift between leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and said that a “forward bloc had already formed within the party”.

Responding to senior journalist and analyst Nadeem Malik’s question about who was going to be the leader of PTI’s forward bloc, Vawda said that it was exactly what the intra-party dispute was about. “Selection has already been done,” he claimed.

    Faiz’s Court Martial

Lt Gen Faiz Hameed was arrested on charges of abusing his powers and raiding a private property development business during his time as head of the ISI. He led the ISI during founder PTI Imran Khan’s administration, from 2019 to 2021, before taking early retirement in December 2022.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, court martial proceedings against the former spymaster were initiated based on “concrete evidence” following a detailed probe.

In a 48-minute media briefing last month, the ISPR chief had said that Gen Faiz’s court-martial was an example of the military’s self-accountability.

Pakki dosti: Former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar admits to chatting with Gen Faiz

Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar on Monday confirmed that he had been in contact with former ISI Chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed; however, journalist Ansar Abbasi revealed that he categorically denied any wrongdoing or connection with May 9 riots.

“I swear that I have nothing to do with May 9, PTI and its politics,” revealed Saqib Nisar.

He said that the allegations against him are “totally nonsensical.” The former CJP also clarified that he attended Gen Faiz’s daughter’s wedding ceremony and has been exchanging routine pleasantries and wishes on various occasions.

He recalled that when he and his family visited northern areas of the country, the general was “very kind to look after them.”

The CJP also recounted that Gen Faiz used to meet his registrar besides occasionally sending him “for eyes only” messages during his tenure as the Chief Justice.

“I have nothing to worry about,” he said, revealing that he is returning to Pakistan on September 5th.

I am a victim of Gen Faiz Hameed: Ishaq Dar

Deputy Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, on Friday, revealed that the former ISI Chief, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, who is currently facing a court-martial by Pakistan Army, once apologised to him for “victimising” him.

“I am among the victims of Faiz Hameed,” said the deputy PM, skipping details about his allegations against Hameed.

Last week, Gen Faiz was taken into custody by the military along with the initiation of court martial proceedings against him for allegedly victimising the owner of Top City Housing Society in the federal capital.

Dar opined that this development was unprecedented in Pakistan, adding that his arrest indicated the end of a project started in 2011.
