    AstraZeneca admits in court that vaccine had rare side effects

    AstraZeneca has admitted in court that its vaccine can cause rare side effects, including blood clots and low platelet count.

    The vaccine, which was developed with the University of Oxford, was sued over claims that it caused death and serious injury in dozens of cases.

    The lawsuit was spearheaded by Jamie Scott, whose life took a tragic turn after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine in April 2021. Scott suffered a permanent brain injury, prompting legal action against this pharmaceutical giant.

    “We need an apology, fair compensation for our family and other families who have been affected. We have the truth on our side, and we are not going to give up” said Kate Scott, the wife of the victim.

    In total, 51 cases have now been lodged in Britain and victims and relatives are seeking damages worth £100 million.

    “It is admitted that the AZ vaccine can, in very rare cases, cause TTS (Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome). The causal mechanism is not known,” the company said in court documents, quotes Dawn.

    While the company has contested the claims of Scott, the court submission marks the first time it has admitted that the vaccine can cause side-effects that are characterised by blood clots and a low blood platelet count in humans.

    “Further, TTS can also occur in the absence of the AZ vaccine (or any vaccine). Causation in any individual case will be a matter for expert evidence,” the admission in court added.

    The UK government has indemnified Astra­Zeneca against any legal action but has so far refused to intervene.

    According to the Council for International Organisat­ions of Medical Sciences, “very rare” side effects are those reported in less than 1 in 10,000 cases.

    AstraZeneca vaccine was developed by the British-Swedish company in collaboration with Oxford University, and produced by the Serum Institute of India. It was widely administered in over 150 countries.

    Some studies conducted during the pandemic found the vaccine was 60 to 80 per cent effective in protecting against the covid-19.

    Covid Vaccination of children aged 5-12 begins

    The Covid-19 vaccination programme for childern aged 5 to 12 has begun.

    The vaccination drive will continue through September 24 to immunise kids between the ages of 5 and 12 against Covid-19, according to health officials.

    In its letter to parents, the NIH stated that Covid-19 immunisation protects kids against contracting the virus.

    Data entries for the vaccination will be made from the B-form of a child.

    Covid vaccines for children aged 5 to 12 now available

    The Ministry of Health has decided to provide COVID-19 inoculation to children aged five years to 12 years. However, parental approval is required for the inoculation.

    According to the health ministry, the immunisation program will begin on September 19 across Sindh, Punjab, and Islamabad.

    “Children will also be able to receive COVID-19 jabs in schools and they will be vaccinated after the consent of their parents,” said the ministry.

    “Children’s registration in National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is mandatory for the vaccination and entry will be made through B-form,” said District Health Officer Rawalpindi, Ahsan Ghani while talking to Geo News.

    According to the National Institute of Health (NIH),435 cases of Covid-19 with a positivity rate of 3.19 per cent were reported in Pakistan on June 24.

    The number of confirmed cases have jumped to 1,533,482. One death was reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 13,64 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours .

    In April, Pakistan reported zero Covid-19-related deaths for the first time since the breakout of the pandemic in the country.

    In March this year, the government announced the closure of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC). The body was set up in March 2020 to deal with Covid-19.

    Positivity rate in Karachi doubles in the last 24 hours

    Karachi recorded a doubling of its Covid-19 positivity ratio from 10.69 per cent to 21.23 per cent within the last 24 hours.

    The National Institute of Health (NIH) reports that 268 new cases were reported in the country today (June 23). The positivity rate in the country is currently at 2.14 per cent, which is the highest it has been since March 5, 2022.

    Pakistan also saw a surge in the positivity rate in the last few days. There has been an increase in hospitalisations due to Covid-19, primarily among older and unvaccinated patients.

    In the last 24 hours, one person has lost their life to the virus.

    NCOC decides to lift all covid related restrictions

    Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, in a tweet, said that in a meeting of the National Command Operation Center (NCOC), the decision to lift all the Covid-19 related restrictions has been made.
    However, the vaccination restriction will not be lifted. “It was decided in the NCOC meeting today to lift all restrictions except the vaccination restrictions. All those who are not vaccinated must get fully vaccinated so that they can avoid all restrictions. We will continue to monitor disease patterns closely & take action if needed,” the tweet read.

    Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (PM) on National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination, Dr Faisal Sultan on March 12 annouced that the government has decided to shut down the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC).

    According to Dr Sultan, PM Khan himself is expected to formally announce the shutting down of NCOC by the end of next month. He said that the responsibilities of the NCOC will be carried out by the National Institute of Health.

    Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said that 58 per cent of Pakistan’s eligible population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. He also mentioned that Pakistan has set a record by administering 2.24 million Covid-19 vaccination doses in a day.

    “Another record set with 2.24 million vaccinations in a day. Last 4 days in a row we have vaccinated more than 2 million each day. Every 3 out of 4 Pakistanis eligible for vaccination have received at least 1 dose. 58% are fully vaccinated. Well done Pakistan,” the minister wrote in his tweet.

    As per the National Command Operation Center (NCOC), Pakistan recorded 3,498 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours with 39 people losing their lives to the deadly virus.

    According to the National Command Operation Center (NCOC), Pakistan recorded 7539 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours with 25 people losing their lives to the deadly virus, the highest death rate since October 14. The COVID-19 positivity rate in the country is over 10 per cent from eight consecutive days.

    On Wednesday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 1,446 coronavirus cases, the highest number of infections in a single day since the pandemic began. In April 2021, the province had recorded 1,265 cases of Covid-19 in a single day.

    Peshawar’s positivity rate was 35.89 per cent on Wednesday. Morever, the positivity rate in Karachi has reached to 26.91 per cent and in Lahore the positivity rate was 15.25 per cent in the last 24 hours.

    Only vaccinated individuals will be allowed to enter mosques: NCOC

    The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) issued a notification on Saturday with new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for mosques and other places of worship. NCOC, during a meeting today, revised the SOPs amid a sharp increase of Covid-19 cases in the country.

    Following are the new restrictions for mosques:

    • Only fully vaccinated individuals will be allowed to mosques/worship places
    • Masks have been made mandatory in places of worship
    • Carpets to be removed
    • 6 feet distance to be maintained
    • Elderly, people with flu-like symptoms, and children to offer prayers at home
    • Short sermon for Jumma prayer
    • Minimal attendance for prayers
    • Doors and windows of mosques to stay open for ventilation.
    • It is better to perform wudhu at home

    On January 21, Pakistan reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the country since the Covid-19 pandemic began. In 24 hours, 7,678 cases were reported.

    Pakistan has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began. As per the National Command and Operating Center (NCOC), the country recorded 7678 new cases of the deadly virus. The positivity rate has increased to 12.93 per cent.

    Moreover, 23 people lost their lives and 961 patients are in critical condition.

    The total number of cases has risen to 1,353,479 and the death toll is 29,065.
