    In a surprising move, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have both passed laws that criminalise the sending of heart emojis via WhatsApp and other social networking sites, considering it an act of incitement to debauchery and harassment, respectively.

    According to Kuwaiti lawyer Haya Al Shalahi, individuals found guilty of sending heart emojis in Kuwait may face severe consequences. A conviction of this offence could lead to up to two years of imprisonment, along with a fine not exceeding 2,000 Kuwaiti dinars.

    Likewise, in Saudi Arabia, the consequences are equally harsh. Sending ‘red heart’ emojis on WhatsApp may result in a jail term ranging from two to five years, accompanied by a fine of 100,000 Saudi Riyals, as per Saudi law.

    Saudi cybercrime expert Al Moataz Kutbi highlighted that certain images and expressions used in online conversations, like red hearts, could be deemed harassment within the country’s jurisdiction. The act might lead to a lawsuit being filed by the aggrieved party, turning it into a serious offence.

    Moreover, for repeat offenders in Saudi Arabia, the financial penalty could escalate to a staggering 300,000 Saudi Riyals, coupled with a maximum imprisonment of five years.

    The rationale behind these strict measures is to combat online harassment and protect individuals from potentially harmful or inappropriate content shared through emojis. Authorities in both countries view such seemingly innocuous expressions as having the potential to incite indecent behaviour or cause emotional distress to recipients.

    As social media and messaging platforms continue to play a significant role in modern communication, governments are increasingly taking measures to regulate online interactions and enforce cyber laws. Individuals in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are now urged to exercise caution in their online communication to avoid potential legal consequences.

    Argentinian cryptocurrency influencer Fernando Perez Algaba, who had been reported missing for more than a week, was tragically discovered deceased on Wednesday. According to a report by the New York Post, his remains were found inside a suitcase near a stream in Buenos Aires. The disturbing incident came to light when a group of children found the red suitcase containing body parts while playing by the stream on Sunday.

    Upon being informed by the children’s parents, the authorities initiated an investigation. The suitcase contained Algaba’s legs and forearms, while one of his arms was found in the stream. Subsequently, on Wednesday, the police located the missing head and torso. The dismemberment appeared to have been skillfully performed, indicating the involvement of someone with expertise in such matters.

    Autopsy results revealed that Algaba had suffered three gunshot wounds before his body was dismembered. The police were able to identify him through his fingerprints and distinctive tattoos on the body parts.

    Fernando Perez Algaba was a self-made millionaire based in Barcelona, known for showcasing his opulent lifestyle to nearly one million Instagram followers. He accumulated his wealth through luxury vehicle rentals and cryptocurrency sales. Algaba had been in Argentina for a week before his disappearance and alleged murder.

    The circumstances surrounding Algaba’s death led to the arrest of one individual, and the authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the crime. While they suspect that financial debts may have played a role in the tragedy, a comprehensive investigation is still underway.

    Police ‘reluctant’ to register 13-year-old housemaid torture case against civil judge

    A shocking incident of severe torture on a 13-year-old housemaid, employed by a civil judge in Islamabad, has come to light.

    Reportedly, the police are facing accusations of reluctance to register a case against the judge, reported Dawn.

    The civil judge, a member of the Punjab Judicial Service on deputation at the Federal Judicial Academy for about three years, and his wife, are alleged to have subjected the girl to merciless beatings and burns.

    According to the Sargodha District Police Officer, the young girl had been hired as a housemaid through a contractor for a monthly salary of Rs10,000, about six months prior to the incident. The girl’s family was informed by the employer that they were dissatisfied, prompting them to take her back to Sargodha.

    On their way back, the mother noticed the injuries on her daughter’s body, and they sought medical treatment in Sargodha, where it was confirmed to be a case of torture. Due to the severity of her head injuries, the girl was transferred to Lahore for further treatment, with the assistance of the Sargodha police.

    Upon receiving a complaint and a medico-legal certificate detailing the girl’s injuries, police reached out to their counterparts in Islamabad, requesting them to register the case. Unfortunately, the response from the Islamabad police was deemed unprofessional.

    Following media attention on the issue, the Sargodha police once again approached the capital police to file the case. However, the Islamabad police asked for the physical presence of the complainant at their station, despite having received all relevant documents from Sargodha.

    The girl’s father lodged a complaint with the capital police for the case to be registered against the employer at the Humak police station. Police sources also suggested the possibility of a case being registered against the judge for hiring an underage maid and concealing facts.

    The complainant detailed the horrific condition in which they found their daughter, with injuries to her head, hands, legs, and broken teeth. She revealed that she endured daily torture by the judge’s wife, who sometimes denied her food and confined her to a room.

    In response to the allegations, the civil judge claimed that the girl had injured her own head and that his wife had questioned her about a theft incident involving gold ornaments. He further claimed that the marks on her face were a result of her habit of eating clay.

    This distressing incident has raised concerns about the treatment of domestic workers and the need for swift and serious action against such perpetrators.

    Two persons were killed within the premises of a local court in Lahore on Thursday, Dawn has reported.

    According to police, the two slain were identified as Sughra Bibi and Muhammad Amin. The victims were present at the court for a hearing when they were shot dead.

    The Punjab Inspector General has instructed the police to catch the suspects as soon as possible and also find out their motive, however, the suspects turned themselves in after the incident and the weapons used in the crime were also found.

    They have been taken to the SP City Office for further investigation. They are being interrogated to determine if anyone else was involved, said police.

    Massive drug bust as ANF seizes 152.64kg of illegal drugs

    The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested four drug peddlers during operations in different areas of the country on Wednesday.

    An ANF spokesperson said the operations have been carried out in Gujranwala, Kuchlak Bypass Quetta, Khyber, Mianwali, Karachi and Chaman.

    He said 101.64kg of hashish, 50 kg of heroin, 1.2 kg of opium, 5kg of ice, and 4kg of suspicious materials have been recovered from the suspects.

    Cases have been registered against the peddlers under the Anti-Narcotics Act, he added.

    A man influenced by the popular online game PUBG shot dead a young Dolphin Police officer and critically injured another at Defense Housing Authority (DHA) Y Block, Lahore.

    The deceased officer, Hafiz Nauman, got married a year go.

    According to initial investigation reports, an armed man fired at Nauman, hitting him in the chest, from a distance of two feet. He fired three bullets when Nauman and his constable rounded him up in the busy commercial area. One of the bullets pierced Nauman’s lungs, leading to his death.

    The gunman also attacked Constable Mohsin and fired at him, hitting him on the chest and leg, leaving him critically injured.

    An official stated later that a gunman named Asif alias Asu was traced to Patoki, where he was killed by the firing of his companions while in an encounter with police.

    A police official added that Asu was addicted to PUBG games and influenced by its violence. He also said that it is not the first time that the game has been the cause of violent crime.

    Last year, a 14-year-old PUBG fan in Kahna shot his entire family, including his mother and two minor sisters.

    A massive police operation against hardened criminals and terrorists in Katcha area in Punjab has entered its 60th day today as police claim more achievements.

    According to a spokesman of the Punjab Police, 12 bandits have been killed in the past two months, more than eight have been injured, 26 have surrendered and 51 have been arrested.

    Policeman Muhammad Qasim was martyred while fighting the criminals, while three officials were injured. Around 60,000 acres of land considered as no-go area was cleared in the operation. Three police community schools and two dispensaries have been established in the areas cleared by the police, the spokesman added.

    The police destroyed and burnt dozens of secret hideouts and bunkers of criminals. The gangs have been wiped out and the writ of the government has been established in areas including Katcha Moro, Katcha Jamal, Katcha Imrani, Chak Kapra, Chak Chirag Shah, Jungo Thandi, Khairpur Bambili, Chak Chandia, Rakh Shahwali and Katcha Razi.

    The spokesman further said criminals with head money and gangs including Bangiani, Sukhani, Imrani, Lund, Dalani, Pitt and Sadani have been forced to flee. Police pickets have been established at several spots.

    Weapons recovered from the robbers include 12.7 machine guns (anti-aircraft), rocket launchers, G3, SMG, LMGs, Kalashnikovs, repeaters, hand grenades and hundreds of bullets.

    Punjab IG Dr Usman Anwar, D G Khan RPO and Rajanpur RPO are present along with the police personnel on the front line in the Katcha area and are commanding the operation.

    A group of dacoits rushed into a private bank at Barki Road in Lahore and plundered millions in cash on Monday morning before running away, police have confirmed.

    Five armed men went inside the bank, snatched away the security guard’s weapon and collected over Rs10 million cash.
    The suspects deprived a customer of Rs4.1m and looted Rs6m from the cash counter.

    The gunmen also manhandled security guards and injured them on offering resisting.

    A police team rushed to the spot on an emergency call, collecting necessary evidence including CCTV footage, and launched an investigation.

    Jung Yoo-Jung of South Korea posed as a student to murder her tutor with whom she had scheduled an online consultation.

    Yoo-Jung signed up on an online app by posing as the concerned mother of a daughter who was looking for a suitable English tutor. After connecting with another woman who was in her 20s, both agreed to meet at the victim’s home for a session.

    On May 26, Yooo-Jung showed up at the deceased’s house wearing a school uniform, pretending to be a student. Once she was let inside, she murdered the tutor, stabbing her multiple times and then dismembered her body.

    Afterwards, Jung placed the victim’s body parts in a suitcase, hiding her mobile phone, ID card and wallet to make it seem like the victim was travelling. She tried to dispose of the body by travelling to Nakdong River in a taxi. The cabbie made a call to the police to report Yoo-Jung’s suspicious behavior. Police discovered the suitcase along the riverside and arrested Jung from her home.

    According to the police, Jung confessed to the crime. She said that watching crime shows and reading about illegal activities spiked her curiosity and led to the murder:

    “Jung was found to have premeditated the crime driven by a desire to kill someone after she became obsessed with murder from TV programs and books,” a police spokesperson from Busan said. “Jung also said she feels sorry for what she did. We are conducting tests to see if she is a psychopath.”

    On Friday, Jung was indicted for murder.
