    Flyover or Dam: PM Shehbaz gets candid with a Twitter follower

    Pakistani weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt has bagged a maiden gold medal in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. In the 109+kg category, Butt lifted 173kg in snatch and set a new record. In clean and jerk, he lifted 232kg to set another record. In total, he lifted 405kg to claim a gold medal for Pakistan.

    “This wasn’t possible without the support and prayers of my friends and family members,” said Butt while talking to Geo News. “I dedicate this gold medal to my father, who worked for 12 years and helped me reach this stage.”

    “Winning a medal for your country is always a proud moment, and gold is something special.”

    “I have done my duty. Now it’s up to the government of Pakistan to do their job,” he added.

    Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Nooh on winning a gold medal for Pakistan.

    “Prime Minister sahb Well done say BAAT nahe chalni, Butt Sahab Kay name ka flyover hona chahiye,” Twitter user Faizan Khan commented on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s congratulatory tweet after Nooh Butt won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games last night.

    “Or a dam,” was PM Shehbaz’s candid response.

    Social media users are expressing their joy over the achievement of the weightlifter from Gujranwala.

    Butt won a bronze medal in the 105+kg division at the 2018 CWG. Pakistan won a gold medal in the CWG’s weightlifting event in 2006 when Shujauddin Malik won gold in the 85kg division.

    US launches $23 million project to enhance Pakistan’s power sector

    The United States (US) said on Friday that it will launch a four-year, $23.5 million initiative in Pakistan to improve energy sector performance.

    As per United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Julie A Koenen, the project intends to boost the volume of green energy in Pakistan’s energy mix.

    The US government is collaborating with the Pakistani government to undertake a four-year $23.5 million power sector reform initiative to address climate change and enhance the amount of renewable energy in Pakistan’s energy mix, through USAID.

    It would also strengthen the management and operations of electricity transmission and distribution networks, boosting the financial viability, dependability, and affordability of Pakistan’s power system by providing technical support to the government and private sector.

    To increase Pakistan’s energy supply, the US and Pakistan have built three dams: Gomal Zam dam in South Waziristan, Satpara dam in Gilgit Baltistan, and Golen Gol dam in Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding 143 megawatts of electricity to the national grid and rehabilitated the Mangla and Tarbela dams and three thermal power plants, connecting up to 860 megawatts of commercially-funded wind and solar projects to the national grid.

    Three men drown in Karachi while filming TikTok video

    Three men drowned in a huge pond while making a TikTok video in Karachi’s Rais Goth on Sunday.

    According to reports, three friends, residents of Kemari Town, went to Rais Goth for a picnic where they decided to film a TikTok video at the bank of a pond situated near a stone crushing plant in the area.

    One of the friends slipped and fell into the pond. His friends then jumped into the pond to rescue him but unfortunately, they all drowned.

    After receiving emergency calls, police and rescue officials hurried to the spot and recovered their bodies from the pond which were then shifted to the hospital for medico-legal formalities.

    The deceased were identified as Shehzad, Sajjad and Zubair.

    Earlier on July 21, a boy had drowned in the Khanpur Dam while trying to take a selfie. The 20-year old was taking a selfie at the edge of the dam. According to details, a 20-year-old was attempting to take a selfie while standing at the edge of the dam when he suddenly lost his balance and fell into the dam.
