  • PTI to appear before NA speaker next week to verify resignations

Lawmakers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have decided to appear before National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for the verification of their resignations, reports Geo News.

The lawmakers are likely to appear either on Wednesday or Thursday.

The Speaker has yet to take action on the resignations as PTI legislators have failed to get a response after they wrote a letter to him

On December 15, PTI leader and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry announced that the party would be seeking time from the National Assembly speaker for the verification of their MPs’ resignations.

He also denied speculations that the party’s lawmakers are still receiving salaries.

“Judges should verify the reports that show up on media. The reality is that this is another lie told by the government. The salaries of the resigned members are suspended and no member is getting any salary,” said Fawad.

A day earlier, the PTI chief announced that both Punjab and KP assemblies will be dissolved on December 23.

It will be easy to take legal action against IK if he dissolves assemblies: PML-N’s Ahsan Iqbal

Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, has said that if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan dissolves provincial assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) it will be easy for law enforcement agencies to take action against him if they want to.

Talking to Geo News’ programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath‘, the minister warned the PTI chief, accusing him of using the provincial assemblies as his “shield”.

Iqbal said, “Imran Khan has made these provincial governments his shield, when he is afraid of arrest, he either runs to Peshawar or Lahore.”

“But if Khan dissolves these assemblies and the law wants to take him in its hand, it will be easy to do so,” he stated.

Commenting on Khan’s announcement on the matter of PTI’s Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) resignations, the federal minister said that even if they are saying it, they are still living in parliamentary lodges.

On Wednesday, Khan announced that he would give the date for the dissolution of Punjab and KP assemblies on December 17 (tomorrow) at Lahore’s Liberty Chowk.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will make an important announcement regarding the dissolution of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies next week, Geo News has reported.

Khan will address all PTI members of the assembly via a video link. Meetings for both KP and Punjab parliamentary parties have also been called.

The KP Parliamentary Party meeting will be held on Friday while the Punjab Parliamentary Party meeting will be held on Saturday, in which Khan will take both parties into confidence to dissolve the assemblies

The meeting also decided that the PTI would approach the National Assembly (NA) speaker and push him to accept the resignations of its legislators.

On Saturday, Khan announced that PTI wouldn’t be part of “this system” and would quit all the assemblies. Following the announcement, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi showed support for Khan’s decision.
