Indian man divorces wife over eyebrow threading

A man in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, divorced his wife after she shaped her eyebrows without permission. The matter came to the notice of the police as the woman went to register an FIR against her husband and in-laws.

Gulsaiba and Saleem got married in January 2022. He left for Saudi Arabia on August 30, 2023, for an employment opportunity. Since then, the girl alleged, her in-laws were harassing her for dowry. In a statement given to the police, she told them that her husband is an extremely old-fashioned and orthodox person who has always raised objections over her fashion choices.

During a video call on October 4, Saleem noticed that her eyebrows had been shaped and despite her explanations that she did it because her face looked unruly, he got angry and pronounced three talaqs. As per Gulsaiba, Salim said to her, “You went ahead and shaped your eyebrows despite my objections. From today, I free you from this marriage”. There has been no communication between the two since then.

Gulsaiba stated in her complaint, “I had been married for only a year. My husband, who had previously disrespected me, has now given me triple talaq. I want the police to take appropriate action against him.”

‘It had to happen’: Aina Asif defends why Mayi-Ri had to end with divorce of Ainy and Fakhir

Child star Aina Asif was a guest on ‘Mazaaq Raat’ where an audience member asked her about the controversial ending of the drama ‘Mayi-Ri’. The serial centered around the forceful marriage of a 15-year-old girl to her cousin, and the birth of their daughter. The drama’s ending divided opinions when Ainy divorces Fakhir, decides to live with her single mother to raise her daughter and completes her education.

The ending was applauded by some users for showing divorce as something that empowers a woman rather than shameful, with Ainy choosing to live her life on her own terms. While other users slammed the show-makers for ‘glamorising divorce’.

Aina defended the scene as something that was necessary to depict in order for audiences to fully understand why child marriage is wrong. “There could have been a different ending, but we have to emphasise that child marriage is wrong. We were trying to show that.”

Aina further stressed the drama’s characters Ainy and Fakhir were good for each other but their timing was wrong, hence they had to part ways.

‘Mayi Ri’ ends with mixed responses from fans

The drama ‘Mayi-Ri’ attracted widespread controversy on social media after it depicted an underaged girl being forcibly married to her cousin, later giving birth to a baby girl. However the drama has ended now, with main leads Ainy (Aina Asif) and Fakhar (Samar Jafri) choosing to end their relationship as he decides to go abroad for studies.

Social media had mixed reactions to the ending. Many fans were happy to see a Pakistani drama deciding not to stigmatise divorce, showing Ainy empowered by her family to chase her dreams and complete her education on her own. In the last scene, Ainy gives a college graduation speech where she strongly advocates for the right of women to chase their dreams, revealing that she has set up a house with her mother called ‘Ayesha Home’ to help young children escape abuse.

As pop culture writer Sadaf Haider wrote: “Mxed feelings about #MayiRi ending Congratulations on understanding Divorce can be be a blessing Allah has allowed it for a reason Big thank you to The writer for allowing Aini & Fakhir to move on from a child marriage And women supporting each other.”

Social media users defended Ainy for divorcing Fakhir, working on her independence and following her own dreams. Users shared the clip of Ainy speaking at her college graduation ceremony, applauding the powerful stance the show took against child marriage.

However, other social media users were disappointed at how Fakhir chose to run away from his responsibilities for wife and child to study abroad, calling this twist, “heartbreaking.”

But for us, the best part of the drama was how divorce was not treated as a taboo, but as an empowering a step towards a woman’s future. We’re incredibly happy with the direction the show took, and hope more writers and producers take a page from their book, to show that it’s better to live alone than to live in an abusive marriage.

Is Feroze Khan a supportive parent? Aliza Sultan reveals in new Q&A session

Controversial actor Feroze Khan made headlines last year when allegations by his ex-wife Aliza Sultan surfaced, detailing the abuse and torture she allegedly suffered during their four year marriage.

Now in a recent Q &A session with her followers on Instagram, Aliza has opened up about whether Feroze Khan plays a role in providing financial support for the upbringing of his children.

He does, Aliza said. “No that’s not true. He has taken on their financial responsibility.”

Another user asked Aliza about whether she thought the height of a man mattered in a marriage, to which her response was: “Height of his patience and personality bas.”

Aliza Sultan had previously shut down rumors claimed by Feroze that he wasn’t allowed to visit the children when a user chided her for not letting the father visit them during Eid.

  • Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan given divorce on grounds of cruelty inflicted by wife

Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan given divorce on grounds of cruelty inflicted by wife

On Wednesday, a Delhi court granted Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan divorce from his wife Aesha Dhawan, on grounds of cruelty inflicted by his spouse. The couple married in 2012, and share a 10-year-old son.

According to NDTV, the family court judge accepted Mr Dhawan’s accusations of “mental torture’” inflicted by his wife, who was unable to prove the allegations to be false. The petition details multiple instances where Dhawan was exploited, put in mental agony after being refused to visit his son.

The petition said that the wife had promised to move to India to help with Dhawan’s career after he was unable to move to Australia. However, it reveals Aesha backtracked and refused to move back, claiming she would be forced to give up custody of her children.

“He (Dhawan) for no fault of his own had been through immense agony and anguish of living separately from his own son for years. Even though the wife denied the allegation, submitting that though she genuinely wanted to live in India with him, yet she did not choose to contest the claim. The respondent, by conducting herself in the manner, has inflicted such cruelty, agony and trauma on him, that it was impossible for the petitioner to save the marriage,” the statement from court said.

The next example given in the petition recalls how Aesha forced the cricketer to make her to owner of the three properties he bought in Australia, and had complete ownership of one home while joint custody on the other two. She did not provide her own funds to contribute in the purchase, forcing Dhawan to pay child support not only for their son, but also for two daughters from the wife’s first marriage for whom she was already receiving payments from her first husband.

“The respondent was required to prove that properties were purchased out of her fund as well or her name was included out of love and affection. Thus, Dhawan’s allegation that she compelled him to make her owner to some extent in all three properties or that she pocketed sale proceeds thereof has got to be believed as true,” it added.

The court granted mandatory visitation rights to Dhawan to meet his son in India and Australia, and demanded Aesha to bring their child back to the country.

‘Went out for a pack of cigarettes, still waiting for him to come back’: Ushna Shah talks about her absent father

Actress Ushna Shah responded to a thread on X, (formerly Twitter) which asked users to tell something about their fathers. The ‘Habs’ actress responded with a heartbreaking anecdote about how her father abandoned her.

“Went to buy a pack of cigarettes when I was an infant, will be back any minute…” the actress tweeted.

Underneath the post, users expressed sorrow but Ushna said that because of her strong mother, she grew up to be an accomplished woman.

The actress shared a very important point yesterday about how she hoped dramas would stop turning issues like divorce into a stigma, and write scripts that encourage women to walk out of toxic marriages. She said her mother worked hard to raise Ushna on her own, which is something we also wish more Pakistani show producers would understand.

READ MORE: ‘Divorce is not a stigma, fix the drama scripts’: Ushna Shah

“Many scripts I work on perpetuate shame around divorce. While I can’t reshape the conventions of scriptwriting or opt for unemployment, I stand by a vision. As the child of a divorcee who hustled with three jobs to raise us, the stigma on divorced characters feels deeply personal. I’m eager to be part of a story that addresses the stigma of divorce and combats the shame of being single after, celebrating the journey to independence and joy. Convincing producers to back such a risqué script, which may face societal backlash, is very challenging.”

  • Sophie Turner sues Joe Jonas for custody of their daughters, says she found out about divorce through media

Sophie Turner sues Joe Jonas for custody of their daughters, says she found out about divorce through media

Yesterday, TMZ reported actress Sophie Turner has sued her ex-husband Joe Jonas for custody of their two daughters. According to the lawsuit filled in a Manhattan court, the legal team of the ‘Game Of Thrones’ star said that the couple had planned on moving to England to make it their “forever home”. Turner said the couple had sold their Miami home and were in the process of purchasing a home in the English countryside in April, and in the summer Sophie began working on ‘Joan’, a miniseries. During this time, documents reveal, Joe begun touring with his band ‘The Jonas Brothers’ in the summer, and the couple decided their children would stay with the father as he had more daytime hours available than Sophie who was filming, but shared the actress was “hesitant” about the agreement.

The most shocking part of the documents was that Sophie found out about the divorce from media reports, after Joe filed for divorce on September 5 when the couple had an argument on August 15.

On the issue of custody, the documents state that when the couple met to discuss the next step after their split, Joe was found to have a change of heart and rejected the plan to move to England. Turner says Joe’s legal team confirmed with Sophie’s that the children would not be returning to England and did not provide their passports.

“The Father has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother.”

Joe’s PR team has responded to the lawsuit and in a statement to People magazine, a representative for the singer says Sophie was aware about the divorce proceedings.

“After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce.”

“Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids. They have been with her since that meeting. Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup,” the statement added.

Joe and Sophie Turner tied the knot in 2019 in a small ceremony in Vegas, and later in Paris, with their family and friends present. Reports of their divorce showed up on September 6 when sources told TMZ that Sophie was to blame for the breakdown of the marriage, claiming the actress was a drinker and partied a lot while the singer was the opposite. The reports were slammed by social media users who criticised the misogynist narrative used by Joe and his PR team to frame Sophie as a bad mother.
