    Landlord in Sindh cuts donkey’s leg for entering his stable

    A landlord in Sindh has cut off the leg of a donkey that entered his stable.

    The incident took place in Batra village of Mehar Tehsil in Sindh.

    The donkey’s owner says his son earns money by driving a donkey cart. The owner said, “Last night, my donkey went to the landlord’s shed, after which he and his son got angry and cut off the leg of the donkey.”

    Geo News reported that the donkey owner had registered a complaint with the Rajhastan police station against the influential landlord, but so far, the police have not taken any action. They have also left the donkey with the police.

    However, the police believe that the donkey’s owner has only reported the case and has not registered an FIR. Further action will be taken after the case is registered and the investigation is carried out.

    A local landlord in Tehsil Jatoi of Muzaffargarh amputated two legs of a donkey that had entered his fields to drink water. The man has been identified as Sajjad Hussain.

    The incident occurred in the Mouza Rampur area of Jatoi Tehsil. Following a complaint by the donkey’s owner, Bashir Ahmed, the police registered a case at the Jatoi police station and promptly arrested Sajjad Hussain. The injured donkey received medical aid from the Livestock Department.

    The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice from local communities and animal rights activists.

    The Senate’s Standing Committee on Commerce has been informed that the protocol for exporting donkey skins and meat to China has been finalised.

    Ahsan Ali Mangi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, stated that in addition to the export of donkey skin and meat, protocols for exporting onions, potatoes, and chillies to China have also been finalised.

    Senator Anusha Rehman emphasised that Pakistan produces only one-fifth of its onion demand, making it challenging to justify exporting onions to China.

    The ministry has also reportedly proposed establishing nine new missions, including in Malaysia, Iraq, Oman, Tanzania, Kenya, and Mozambique.

    Donkey population in Pakistan increases to 5.7 million: Research

    Pakistan Economic Survey (PES) 2021-22 revealed that the number of horses in Pakistan climbed by 0.4 million, while donkey population increased to 5.7 million in the preceding fiscal year.

    The number of donkeys has been rapidly expanding in recent years, with 5.5 million in 2019-2020 and 5.6 million in 2020-21, Geo reported.

    Pakistan’s cow population remained at the top as it surged to 53.4 million, with buffalo at 43.7 million, sheep at 31.9 million, and goats at 31.9 million, as per the estimated figures provided by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research.

    Pakistan had 1.1 million camels, 0.4 million horses, and 0.2 million mules. It should be noted that these figures have remained unchanged since 2017-18.

    From 2021 to 2022, livestock provided around 61.9 per cent of agriculture value addition and 14.0 per cent of national GDP.

    Animal farming is the most important source of income for Pakistanis living in rural areas. More than 8 million rural families are involved in livestock farming, and this industry accounts for 35-40 per cent of their income.

    The gross value addition of livestock has increased by 3.26 per cent from Rs5,269 billion in 2020-21 to Rs5,441 billion in 2021-22.

    The government has refocused on livestock in order to boost economic growth, food security, and poverty alleviation in the country.

    A 54-second video that has gone viral on social media shows two men sitting in the middle of a deserted area. Two sheets are hanging on a stick. A donkey has also been tied to the stick. The sheets start rotating and act as a fan when the donkey moves around the stick.

    However, the innovation did not sit well with social media users who accused the people in the video of torturing the animal.
