    Azad Jammu and Kashmir gets its first-ever commercial airline

    In an attempt to promote tourism in the area, President Dr Arif Alvi has announced commercial helicopter flying operations of Kashmir Air in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

    The president stated that AJK is gifted with enormous natural beauty and tourist potential and that the business sector should step forward to enhance AJK’s tourism industry in order to realise its full potential. The president was speaking at the inauguration ceremony for Kashmir Air on Tuesday in Bagh.

    According to Samaa, a private firm called Kashmir Air will launch regular commercial helicopter flights to the AJK and other parts of northern Pakistan to transport visitors.

    The president spent a full day in AJK, where he opened the helicopter flight service, paid a visit to the flagship facility of a healthcare IT business in Bagh, inaugurated a high-end private school, and learned about plans to build a hospital in Abbaspur.

    Along with developing tourism-friendly regulations to encourage private-sector investment, President Alvi asked the AJK government to promote environmentally responsible and sustainable tourism.

    He stated that tourism was now a major industry in many developing nations and was seen as a key driver of foreign exchange earnings, employment creation, and the elimination of economic inequalities.

    The president claimed that the UN had failed to settle the Jammu and Kashmir conflict in a manner that satisfied the demands of the Kashmiri people.

    He claimed that the UN resolutions serve as the foundation for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s (IIOJK) resistance. He said that although the UN was established to prevent conflicts and wars, since its founding it has mostly served to advance the interests of western nations.

    “Genocide Watch has warned that Muslims and other minorities in India are insecure but nobody is coming forwards to listen to the minorities and Muslims of India who are under constant threat,” the president added.

    He reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to resolve all of its disputes, including Jammu and Kashmir, through dialogue. Pakistan desires a peaceful resolution to the IIOJK, but the president has cautioned India not to see Pakistan’s peace efforts as a sign of weakness.

    He claimed that the IIOJK people had made immeasurable sacrifices and that Pakistan will continue to stand with them morally, politically, and diplomatically until they were granted the right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.

    ‘Biggest theft in history’: Nawaz Sharif calls out Khan after ECP verdict

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif said that the biggest theft in the country’s history has been committed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Imran Khan.

    Sharif made these comments in London after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced its verdict in the PTI foreign funding case on August 2.

    ECP said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan submitted a false Nomination Form I. The PTI chairman kept accounts hidden, which the ECP said is a violation of the Constitution, and the affidavit provided regarding party accounts was also false.

    The commission noted that “the party knowingly and willfully received funding from Wootton Cricket Limited, operated by business tycoon Arif Naqvi. The party was a willing recipient of prohibited money of $2,121,500”.

    “Khan claims he is an honest leader but the ECP verdict has exposed his lies,” said Nawaz.

    Nawaz urged the coalition government to “take immediate legal action” against PTI and eliminate the ‘fitna’ of Imran Khan forever. He added that Imran Khan should be punished as soon as possible.

    “Khan knew that he had committed the biggest money laundering [in the country’s history]. This is the reason he kept demanding the chief election commissioner’s resignation,” said Nawaz.

    Sharif claimed that Khan was working on a foreign agenda.

    Former CJP Mian Saqib Nisar should be punished

    Talking about the former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, who conferred the titles of Sadiq and Ameen upon Imran Khan, Nawaz said that the judge should also be punished. It is pertinent to mention that Saqib Nisar disqualified Nawaz Sharif from holding public office for life.

    “A time will come when Nisar will have to answer these questions,” said Nawaz.

    He also demanded an answer from former CJP Asif Saeed Khosa and alleged that he invited Khan to present his grievances before the court rather than protesting on the streets.

    February 27 was a night to remember for Lahorites as Qalandars finally bagged their maiden title while President Dr Arif Alvi and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also watched the final clash of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Sunday.

    The stadium was packed with full capacity crowd while the country’s top commander and President, along with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja, were present to enjoy the much-anticipated game.

    According to reports, General Bajwa was accompanied by Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Muhammad Abdul Aziz.

    Meanwhile, strict security measures were made for the final game. The top police command of Punjab inspected the security arrangements, while adjourned areas leading to the stadium were closed an hour before the beginning of the match.

    Special commandos were also put on high alert on the routes of the guests, reports said.

    The seventh edition of the country’s flagship tournament, which commenced on January 27 at seaside metropolis Karachi, came to a successful end on Sunday, February 27.

    A Pakistani singer and social activist, Shehzad Roy has been appointed by the government as an honorary brand ambassador for population and family planning.

    The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination issued the notification in which it stated that the decision was taken in the meeting of the federal task force of population presided by the President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi.

    The singer has voiced his opinion on different occasions against societal issues such as corporal punishment against children and child abuse.

    He is running a successful non-governmental foundation, Zindagi Trust to promote education among underprivileged children. Under his philanthropist work, he upgraded government schools and introduced state of art playgrounds to promote sports and modern education with the scientific approach.

    According to the website, he reformed two Karachi schools SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School and Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School where children belonging to various ethnic and religious backgrounds are studying together.

    He was also awarded Sitar-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan in recognition for his philanthropist work in 2005.

  • Law implemented against corporal punishment, schools told to be vigilant

    The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) gave the direction to heads of all educational institutions to be watchful against corporal punishment as the new law against hitting students is implemented across the federal capital schools. The President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi approved the Act on December 1.

    The bill on banning corporal punishment was approved in the National Assembly on February 2021.

    The new law states the teachers who commit corporal punishment will face serious consequences including compulsory retirement and dismissal from services.

    A letter was submitted on December 22 by the FDE to 423 heads of institutes that come under them to ensure strict compliance with the new regulations. A huge penalty will be imposed on the individuals who are proven to be guilty.

    The spokesperson of FDE, Abdul Waheed said: “We will ensure complete implementation of the Islamabad Capital Territory Prohibition of Corporal Punishment Act 2021. All heads have been informed about the new law and in case of its violation, the FDE will take action.”

    According to the letter, there are two categories of penalties that are minor and major which will apply to the individuals.

    A minor penalty includes withholding increment in salary or promotion for some specified time period, censuring. Halting from promotion and recovery from pay are included in this category.

    On the other side, if a teacher is found guilty then they will face demotion to a lower position, compulsory retirement, removal, and dismissal from service come under major penalties.

    The FDE also directed all institutions to hold orientation for staff members on the Act within one week of the issuance of the letter.

    The law also explains that corporal punishment is such a physical force in which a student receives some degree of pain or discomfort, no matter how light it could be. Hitting (smacking, slapping, spanking) a child or with the use of the stick, belt, whip, shoe, wooden spoon, etc.

    Physical force could be kicking, shaking, or throwing a child, scratching, pinching, biting, pulling hair, or boxing ears. Forcing a child to stay in uncomfortable positions, burning, scalding, or forced ingestion, for example, washing a child’s mouth out with soap or forcing him to swallow hot species, including mental abuse.

    The court of the magistrate shall take the case when the complaint of physical punishment is registered either by a student to whom a physical force is inflicted, his parents, or next of kin.

    The law will also be enforced in private schools. The federal government shall formulate a comprehensive system for the enforcement and monitoring of this law in private institutions whether registered or unregistered. It shall devise a system for complaints to address any corporal punishment.
