    Woman arrested in Tandlianwala for false blasphemy accusations against neighbours

    A woman has been arrested by the Tandlianwala City Police in Toba Tek Singh after she threatened to falsely accuse neighbours of desecrating the Quran.

    Under the First Information Report (FIR) filed under Section 211 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 16 of the Punjab Maintenance of the Public Order Ordinance 1960 , 21 complaints claimed the woman was a drug dealer. According to Dawn, when the culprit was confronted by local residents about her alleged activities, she threatened to desecrate the Holy Quran and blame the neighbors and ignite violence within the community.

    According to witnesses, the woman threatened to falsely implicate her neighbours in the Quran desecration case in the Jaranwala incident that took place on August 16.

    Police have arrested the woman and shifted her to the Faisalabad district jail.

    This year in July a drone carrying six kilograms of drugs, worth millions of rupees, crashed in the outskirts of Lahore. Recently a case has been registered against a senior official of the Lahore police, who headed the anti-narcotics wing of the city police, for alleged involvement in cross-border drug smuggling via drones.

    Lahore Deputy Inspector General (Investigation) Imran Kishwar confirmed the “involvement of a DSP”, saying that the official was booked by the ANF.

    “We have constituted a high-powered committee of senior police officers to further expand the scope of the investigation into the illegal cross-border smuggling of the drug,” the DIG told Dawn.

    He said that Lahore SSP Internal Accountability (IAB) Tauqeer Naeem would head the committee while SP Crime Record Officer Aftab Phularwan and a DSP would assist him in this matter.

    According to departmental sources, the issue was escalated to the prime minister after reports suggested that some elements were sending drugs from Kasur to India through drones. They further suggested that a gang of drug traffickers were using unmanned aerial vehicles to smuggle huge quantities of methamphetamine (locally known as ice) from Lahore to India.

    Sources said a drone could carry up to six kilograms of drugs, which would be delivered at a given location in Indian Punjab after flying across the border.

    Departmental action has already been initiated against the police officer, DIG said, adding that further proceedings would be made in the light of the inquiry report.

    The use of technology to smuggle drugs sent alarm bells ringing in ANF, evident from recent arrests made by the force.
    A subsequent probe revealed that DSP Mazhar Iqbal, who secured interim bail after a case was registered against him, was also involved in the alleged smuggling.

    The smugglers on both sides of the border were using “some means of communication to get alerts about the delivery of the drug”, the officials said.

    They added that payments against these drugs would be made in the UAE.

    Islamia University Bahawalpur’s Chief Security Officer was apprehended by police on charges of drug possession and possession of objectionable material, including videos and pictures of the university’s female officials and students, reported Dawn.

    Baghdadul Jadid SHO said the police acted on intelligence-based information to apprehend the suspect.

    The arrest took place when the suspect’s car was stopped at a police checkpoint, and upon searching the vehicle, authorities found 10 grams of ice and aphrodisiacs. The individual was identified as Syed Ejaz Hussain Shah, Chief Security Officer at IUB.

    Police investigation revealed that his two mobile phones contained numerous objectionable videos and pictures of women, including those of officials from various departments of the university and female students. Shah admitted to using and selling drugs, as well as possessing the illicit material.

    Further investigation is underway. Police have been actively working to eradicate drug peddlers from educational institutions, said SHO.

    The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested four drug peddlers during operations in different areas of the country on Wednesday.

    An ANF spokesperson said the operations have been carried out in Gujranwala, Kuchlak Bypass Quetta, Khyber, Mianwali, Karachi and Chaman.

    He said 101.64kg of hashish, 50 kg of heroin, 1.2 kg of opium, 5kg of ice, and 4kg of suspicious materials have been recovered from the suspects.

    Cases have been registered against the peddlers under the Anti-Narcotics Act, he added.

    Lahore Police have initiated an inquiry of the alleged torture incident of a student by her classmates at a private school in Lahore, ARY has reported.

    A video of the incident shows three girls forcing their classmate to the ground, then sitting on her back. One of the girls can be seen pulling the victim’s hair and swearing at her while making her apologise .

    The incident’s First Information Report (FIR) has been recorded on the complaint submitted by Imran, the victim’s father, accusing his daughter’s classmate J of being a drug addict and forcing her daughter to do drugs with her.

    According to the FIR, J tormented the victim alongside her sister K, U and N R The victim’s father also said that they stole the gold chain his daughter was wearing.

    Police is yet to arrest the girls named in the FIR.

    The School has issued a statement in this regard saying that “it strongly condemns the incident that recently took place.”

    Indian actor Rakul Preet Singh has been summoned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) over involvement in the 2017 Tollywood drug and money laundering case.

    ED has summoned the Aiyaary star Rakul in connection with a high-end drugs racket. Several celebrities have been questioned in the alleged racket of supplying high-end narcotics such as LSD and MDMA.

    Rakul was called in by the authorities back in 2021 as well. She claimed that they do not have any links with drug traffickers or consume any such substance.

    Earlier, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Telangana’s Prohibition and Excise Department probed around 11 members of the Telugu film industry including Ravi Teja, Charmee Kaur, and Navdeep in the matter.

    For the unversed, the drugs racket came to light back in 2017 after customs officials arrested musician Calvin Mascarenhas and two others with drugs worth Rs 30 lakh from their possession. On digging in a little deeper, the authorities reportedly found that a large number of Tollywood celebrities could be involved in this racket.

    During an operation on Wednesday, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) was able to seize over 52.66 kg of drugs and detain three suspects.

    An ANF headquarters spokesman said that during an operation near the Islamabad Motorway toll plaza, ANF recovered more than 52.60 kg of drugs, including 45.60 kg of charas, 4.10 kg of heroin, and 3.60 kg of opium that were hidden in two cars’ hidden compartments.     During an operation on Sunday, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) was able to recover more than a tonne of drugs and take two suspects into custody.

    In other news, the Airports Security Force (ASF) recovered 7 kg of heroin on Sunday as a result of two separate raids at the airports in Lahore and Karachi.

    Asif Ali, a passenger travelling from Lahore to Bangkok, had 5.12 kg of heroin hidden in his hand luggage, according to Anti Narcotic Force (ANF) officers. The accused had expertly concealed the heroin in his hand luggage.

    In the second operation, which was carried out at the Karachi Airport, 1.47 kg of heroin was found in Ahmed Sher’s suitcase, who was travelling from Karachi to Medina.

    While ASF representatives said that the accused had been given to ANF for additional legal proceedings, including drug charges.
