    Mehdi Kazmi, wife will meet daughter for the first time in six months

    Mehdi Kazmi and his wife will meet their daughter tomorrow (Thursday) at the Child Protection Centre on the orders of Sindh High Court (SHC).

    “Finally after six months on directions of Hon’ SHC Mehdi Kazmi & his wife will meet with their daughter tomorrow at the Child Protection Centre & Sec Health has been directed to appoint two Mental Health Experts to evaluate the child for any trauma and mental state,” lawyer Jibran Nasir wrote in a tweet.

    Their 15-year-old daughter was allegedly kidnapped from Karachi. She married Zaheer Ahmed in Lahore. The court had earlier sent the girl to a shelter home following her recovery from Punjab.

  • Court bars media from revealing victim identity in Zaheer Ahmed case

    The judicial magistrate East Karachi has imposed a ban on publishing the name, address and photo of the girl who was allegedly abducted from Karachi and married in LahoreThe court has banned the media from publishing any content related to the underage girl. The court also banned the media from further sharing information that has already been disclosed.

    The application was filed by the state prosecutor, Muhammad Younus. The judicial magistrate accepted the district public prosecutor’s request not to reveal the identity of the girl child.

    “No report in any newspaper, magazine, or news sheet of any case or proceedings in any court under these in which a child is involved shall disclose the name, address, or school, or include any particulars calculated to lead directly or indirectly to the identification of any such child, nor shall any picture be published being or including a picture of any such child in the best interest of the child,” the magistrate said in the order.

    According to the written judgement, the Child Restraint Marriage Act prohibits revealing victims’ identities, addresses, and images in the media as a protective measure.

    Punjab govt sends The Minor to shelter home, will be handed over to parents

    The Punjab Police sent The Minor to a Dar-ul–Aman (shelter home) on the orders of the court, Head of Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit Salman Sufi tweeted.

    “Punjab Gov has secured The Minor at Dar UL Aman under strict security and protection after a court order. Sindh Government has been requested to dispatch a child protection bureau team to take her to her parents. Mr Zaheer is being traced for arrest.”

    The Minor appeared before a magistrate’s court and claimed that her life is in danger and requested the court to send her to a shelter home.

    Lawyer Jibran Nasir tweeted, “To save their own life Zaheer/accomplices will go to any length. Please see the application submitted in name of The Minor. She says my relationship with my husband Zaheer isn’t good, I have separated from my husband & have no protection from my Parents hence I need to go to Darul Amaan.”

    The Minor case: Zaheer Ahmed gets protective bail till July 14

    The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted protective bail to Zaheer Ahmed till July 14. Justice Aalia Neelum presided over a one-person LHC bench that heard Zaheer’s case on Thursday.

    According to Zaheer, The Minor married him of her own free will and he did not kidnap her.

    Zaheer’s lawyer claimed that they were concerned that the police may detain his client and asked the court to release him on protective bail so they could apply for interim bail at the concerned court.

    The Minor’s father Mehdi Kazmi asked the Sindh High Court to recover his daughter and has alleged that Zaheer Ahmed had kidnapped her.

    The petition submitted by The Minor’s father stated that his daughter was 13 years, 11 months, and 19 days old when she was kidnapped by Zaheer Ahmed.
