The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that there is a high chance of Eidul Adha 2024 to be observed on June 17, Monday.

The PMD’s Climate Data Processing Centre has predicted that the crescent moon for Zul Hajj will be born on June 6 at 5:38 PM, reports Samaa News.

Despite the forecasts, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final decision regarding the moon sighting in the country.

    Holiday schedule

The official 2024 holiday calendar has earmarked the Eid ul Azha holidays from June 17 to 19.

However, considering the tendency of most government offices to remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, the holiday period will effectively commence on June 15.

A formal notification detailing the revised holidays will be issued by the federal government in the days leading up to Eid ul Azha.

The International Astronomy Center says that Islamic countries will witness the Zul-Hajj moon on Friday, June 7, according to the Al-Arabiya report.

  • Fears of possible Congo fever spread before Eid ul Azha

Fears of possible Congo fever spread before Eid ul Azha

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has issued an alert about the possible spread of the Congo virus ahead of Eid ul Azha, in part due to the close proximity of sacrificial animals on Eid.

101 cases of the Congo virus were reported across the country in the past year, reports Samaa News.

NIH has alerted concerned departments to be on high alert and take necessary precautions.

The advisory states that increased contact between people and sacrificial animals may facilitate the spread of the Congo virus.

“People should wear light-colored clothes so that ticks on clothes can be easily detected,” the advisory stresses.

  • Saudi Arabia lifts age limit, restores pre-COVID Hajj quota for Pakistani pilgrims

Saudi Arabia has granted approval to Pakistan’s request, ensuring equal quotas for all private Hajj tour operators during the upcoming pilgrimage scheduled to take place between June 26 and July 1, 2024.

Saudi Arabia has reinstated Pakistan’s pre-coronavirus Hajj quota, allowing 179,210 pilgrims, and has lifted the previous age limit of 65 years for pilgrimage.

Anticipating the participation of approximately 90,000 Pakistani pilgrims under the government scheme, an equal number will opt for private tour operators to fulfil this religious obligation.

The revised scheme for private Hajj operators entails the formation of 180 groups, each comprising 500 people.

Each private Hajj operator is now permitted to facilitate 100 pilgrims, resulting in diverse groups of pilgrims utilising services from five different operators.

In a separate announcement, applications for Hajj 2024 under the government scheme are open from November 27 to December 12, 2023. Notably, there are no age restrictions for Hujjaj (pilgrims), and all applicants must possess a valid CNIC and a Machine-Readable Passport valid until December 16, 2024. Additionally, possessing a mandatory bank account is a prerequisite for all applicants.

Pakistan is currently in talks with airlines to lower airfares for Hajj flights. Simultaneously, negotiations are ongoing with a mobile company to digitize Hajj 2024 through a dedicated cellphone app, showcasing efforts to enhance accessibility and streamline the pilgrimage experience.

  • Karachi residents disappointed as ATMs run out of cash ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

Karachi residents disappointed as ATMs run out of cash ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

As the country prepares to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on June 29, the residents of Karachi are encountering a pressing issue with the depletion of cash in automated teller machines (ATMs).

Consumers have expressed their grievances regarding the frequent unavailability of ATM services during the lead-up to Eid festivities.

“We have made multiple visits to ATMs since this morning, only to find them out of order and devoid of cash,” shared concerned individuals.

It is not uncommon for consumers to encounter difficulties with ATMs nearing the arrival of Eid. This situation arises due to the heightened demand for cash withdrawals, particularly for the purchase of sacrificial animals.

Pakistan is set to observe Eid on June 29 (Thursday). The government has declared a four-day holiday for the public, including the Day of Arafah, which falls on June 28.
