    Pakistani-British doctor miraculously saves woman’s life on flight through apple watch

    A British doctor of Pakistani origin saved the life of an elderly woman on a flight with the help of an Apple Watch.

    According to the British broadcaster BBC, Dr. Rashid Riaz of the National Health Service (NHS) from Hereford, England, was going to Verona from Birmingham for a vacation. He was on a flight when a 70-year-old woman’s condition suddenly deteriorated, leading ti difficulty in breathing.

    Seeing the condition of the woman, the flight attendant asked if there was a doctor on board, upon which Dr. Rashid Riaz came forward to help.

    After the initial check-up, he wanted to check the patient’s oxygen saturation level but was unable to do so using the equipment on the flight. He then asked the crew if there was an Apple Watch available to monitor the woman’s health. “The Apple Watch helped me find out the patient had low oxygen saturation,” the doctor told the BBC.

    He used local health monitoring software to estimate levels.

    Dr. Rashid Riaz said that the woman was suffering from heart disease and with the help of Apple Watch, it was easy for him to detect the decreasing oxygen level of the elderly woman, thus saving her life by providing oxygen.

    Suella Braverman, former Home Secretary under Rishi Sunak’s government, notorious for her pro-zionist and anti-immigration stand, was pranked by one of the country’s comedy programmes into accepting its “D* of the Year” award in person.

    YouTube comedians, Joshua Pieters and Archie Manners, hired by the comedy show “The Last Leg”, tricked the ex-secretary into believing they were constituents of a fake fishing firm called “Fareham Fishing” in her constituency.

    Last week, Braverman, who has adopted a tough stance against small boat migrants trying to cross the English Channel, attended what she believed to be a small boat naming ceremony on the Wallington River, in Fareham.

    However, during the segment, as she cut a red ribbon to unveil the plaque, it instead named her as the winner of the humiliating award given only to personalities who are most hated.

    The prankster hosts personally awarded Braverman the prize before walking off the pier, leaving her slightly stunned.

    After an awkward few moments, Braverman was seen looking toward her staff before saying: “I’m not sure what that is all about”.

    Each year “The Last Leg” gives the award to an unwitting public figure, who is chosen by viewers and the show’s hosts.

    It is to note that Suella was recently sacked from her post by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who previously reinstated her but is now a target of her criticism.

    Ms. Baverman wrote a piece in a newspaper where she accused the police of “playing favorites”, criticising the Metropolitan Police’s handling of what she called a “pro-Palestine mob”.

    The father of a British-Pakistani 10-year-old girl whose death sparked an international manhunt pleaded not guilty to her murder in a UK court on Thursday, together with two other family members.

    Sara Sharif’s body was discovered at her home in Woking, southern England, on August 10.

    A post-mortem examination found she had sustained “multiple and extensive injuries” over a long period.

    Her father 41-year-old Urfan Sharif, her step-mother Beinash Batool, 29, and his brother Faisal Malik, 28, deny killing the girl.

    They entered their pleas via video link to London’s Old Bailey court.

    Sara’s body was found after an emergency call alerting officers was made from Pakistan by a man identifying himself as the father, according to detectives.

    The house was otherwise empty, and the manhunt continued with Interpol and Britain’s foreign ministry coordinating with authorities in Pakistan.

    The day before Sara’s body was found the three defendants had left the UK for Pakistan with Sharif’s five other children.

    They were arrested in September after disembarking from a flight from Dubai.

    The trial is expected to start in September 2024, and to last six weeks.

    The permission has been granted despite concerns that artificial intelligence could write references to cases that never happened.

    The Judicial Office has issued guidelines for the use of AI Chat GPT for thousands of judges in England and Wales, saying that artificial intelligence can help summarise long texts.

    Master of the Rolls Sir Geoffrey Voss has described artificial intelligence as a better, faster and cost-effective digital assistant for the justice system.

    Only earlier this year, two American lawyers were fined for citing fake cases created by ChatGPT.

    British Home Secretary dismissed over remarks about pro-Palestine March

    British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has been asked to leave the job by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday morning. This is the second time Braverman has been removed from her post. She resigned from Liz Truss’s government after she broke the ministerial code. She got restored by Rishi Sunak a week later, as he took over the government. 

    Braverman ignited a public storm by criticising pro-Palestine marches as “hate marches”, triggering backlash for what critics are calling dog-whistles to Britain’s far-right for taking on the marches on Armistice Day. Last week, Ms. Baverman wrote a piece in a newspaper where she accused the police of “playing favorites”, criticising the Metropolitan Police’s handling of what she called a “pro-Pleastine mob”.

    Critics, from both opposition parties and fellow Tory MPs, called Ms. Braverman’s comments “offensive” and “inflammatory”.

    Her dismissal was met with an over joyous response on social media. 

    A user celebrated her dismissal with words like, “Long Live Palestine.”

    Another claimed it to be “good riddance Cruella”

    Someone appreciated the fact that “what a great way to start the week”.

    Former cabinet minister and member of the House of Lords, Saeeda Warsi posted “Hoping and praying this morning for the appointment of a sane set of Cabinet ministers – our country desperately needs some grown-ups back in charge.”

    A rather British response was centered around her demeaning the British police as her biggest mistake.

     

     Others see the decision as a big blow to Sunak’s PMship.

    In the 25th match of the ICC ODI World Cup, Sri Lanka defeated defending champions England by eight wickets, achieving their second victory in the tournament.

    English batsmen appeared to be in trouble against Sri Lanka from the beginning with a continuous fall of wickets. Sri Lanka kept pressure on England throughout the innings.

    Half of the English team were bowled out for just 85 runs, but Ben Stokes gave them little hope of a big score, before he too was bowled out for 43 runs. Jonny Bairstow 30, David Mullan 28, Joe Root three, and David Wiley was not out scoring 15 runs.

    Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara dismissed three players while Angelo Mathews, and Kisun Rajitha took two wickets each while Thakshana took one wicket.

    Chasing England’s target, Sri Lanka’s Patham Nissanka scored 77 runs off 83 balls, with the help of two sixes and seven fours.

    Siddira Wickrama remained not out with 65 runs off 54 balls while Kaushal Mendes scored 11 runs and Kaushal Perera got out with four runs.

    ‘We know where they are’ : Sarfraz Bugti finalizes plan for repatriation of illegal immigrants

    Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti has confirmed the completion of the plan to repatriate illegal immigrants in Pakistan.

    With the approaching November 1 deadline, the government is set to relocate these individuals to centers within their respective provinces.

    During a press conference, Minister Bugti assured that families of illegal foreigners, including women and children, would be treated with utmost respect.

    He said that “holding centres” had been formed in the provinces as well as Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan where illegal immigrants will be provided medical facilities and food.

    Bugti said after November 1, arrested persons will be kept in the centers. He also announced that returnees could carry a maximum of Rs50,000 with them.

    He emphasized that there would be no compromise on the issue of the return of foreigners and that those found with fake Computerized National Identity Cards (CNCs) would face consequences.

    Sarfraz Bugti said illegal properties of illegal foreigners including illegal Afghan refugees, will be confiscated, and announced action will also be taken against Pakistanis who provide facilities to the illegal aliens.

    He further said that the state had carried out geo-fencing to identify areas where illegal immigrants were residing. “We know where they are. They are in villages, in Pakistan’s metropolitan cities, in different small cities. The government has complete know-how about where they are.”

    “We are encouraging voluntary return so that they can be saved from being manhandled and arrested,” Bugti said. “I assure you that once our investigation is complete, anybody involved in this illegal work will be punished.”

    The first flight of illegal Afghan refugees to Britain for resettlement will begin today (Thursday).

    The first chartered flight carrying 230 Afghan refugees will depart from Islamabad to the UK.

    In this regard, arrangements have been completed at Islamabad International Airport.

    The first flight carrying asylum-seeking Afghans will depart from Islamabad International Airport for the United Kingdom on Thursday.

    200 Afghan refugees are reportedly going to fly out today.

    The Independent has reported that around 3,000 Afghans, many of whom worked for the British army, are to be given UK residency after the Afghan Taliban took over Kabul in August 2021.

    For the time being, the UK has accommodated them in Pakistan since 2022, whereas hundreds have been stuck and await their turn to get relocated.

    The Independent wrote that in “A U-turn of government policy, ministers have pledged that all Afghans eligible for the UK’s resettlement schemes will no longer have to wait for accommodation to be confirmed before coming to Britain”.

    This u-turn was taken after Pakistan gave an ultimatum to all undocumented foreign nationals to leave by November 1 after which they will be deported.

    A British High Commission delegation met senior officials from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) on Tuesday.

    According to the senior CAA official, around 2,000 Afghan refugees will be repatriated by mid-December through one or two weekly chartered flights from Islamabad to the UK.

    Rishi Sunak stated that it was “common sense” that “a man is a man and a woman is a woman.”

    On Wednesday, the British Prime Minister shared his stance on gender identity at a conference speech.

    “We shouldn’t be bullied into believing that people can be any sex they want to be, they can’t. A man is a man, a woman is a woman, that’s just common sense.”

    He announced a ban on trans women from female-only hospital wards.

    He also added that it “shouldn’t be controversial” for parents to be informed what their children were being taught about sex and relationships at school.

    “It shouldn’t be controversial for parents to know what their children are being taught in school about relationships. Patients should know when hospitals are talking about men or women.”

    He laid emphasis on family, saying that Conservatives should “never be afraid” to advocate its importance for a stable society.

    His comments come about as the debate about trans rights gains steam in Britain, and the rest of the western world. Conservatives and liberals have squared off about trans issues, most notably allowing children to begin hormone therapy, the inclusion of biological men in women’s sports and the matter of allowing trans women to be kept in women’s hospital wards, jails and bathrooms.

    The crowd responded to him with a loud applause on his views over gender, whereas people on X (formerly Twitter) got divided on his stance.
