    PTI to be banned? Faisal Vawda certainly thinks so

    Following Tuesday’s violent clashes between followers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and law-enforcing forces in the federal capital, which led to multiple casualties, Senator Faisal Vawda, while appearing on the Geo News programme Capital Talk on Wednesday, claimed that former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s party will be banned.

    The Senator’s remarks came about as the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) decided to table a resolution in the Balochistan Assembly seeking a ban on PTI after clashes with security officials during the three-day-long party protest.

    PML-N parliamentary leader Saleem Khosa, who is set to tabled the resolution to suspend PTI, commented, “Once again, it [the former ruling party] is carrying out violent actions.”

    Faisal Vawda stated, “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister [Ali Amin Gandapur] will not be arrested, but Bushra Bibi [Imran Khan’s wife] will.”

    Faisal Vawda also pointed out the absence of PTI’s big names during the recent protest: “Where was Omar Ayub Khan, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly?”

    He alleged that the former First Lady has a “major role” in bringing founder Imran Khan’s party to a “dead end.”

    Vawda took a jab at Imran Khan’s spouse, saying, “Woman [Bushra Bibi] said she would march on D-Chowk but later ran away.”

    He criticised Bushra Bibi for insisting on marching towards D Chowk despite the party’s big wigs having agreed to change their protest venue to the Sangjani area, in the outskirts of the federal capital.

    It should be mentioned here that PTI marched towards Islamabad on the “final call” of party founder Imran Khan.

    PTI demanded the reversal of the recently passed 26th Constitution Amendment, the “stolen mandate,” and the release of all party political prisoners, including Imran Khan.

    On September 8, PTI staged a rally in Islamabad. However, the November 24 protest was different as the party founder’s wife, Bushra Bibi, was leading the convoy along with CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur.


     
    Following the crackdown on demonstrators on Tuesday night, former First Lady along with Ali Amin Gandapur had fled from Islamabad to Masehra.

    However, CM Gandapur, while addressing party workers and media persons in Mansehra on Wednesday, declared, “This is not just a political demonstration but a fight for our fundamental rights.” 

    He also claimed that hundreds of his party workers were killed during the grand clearance operation in Islamabad, which the government denied.

    Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar had, on Tuesday night, said that “no bodies fell in the operation.” Government officials and ministers have also alleged that PTI protesters caused severe damage to public and government property in the federal capital.

    Senator Faisal Vawda, known for his tall claims, has alleged on a political talk show at ARY News that Bushra Bibi, former Prime Minister’s wife, will be released from jail on the 26th of this month while meetings with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail will continue as usual.

    “She will be completely free, and no new cases will be made against her once her bail is granted. Regular meetings with Imran Khan will be resumed,” claimed the senator.

    On October 23, Bushra Bibi was granted bail in the new Toshakhana Case by the Islamabad High Court; however, despite PTI’s utmost attempts, she has not been released from prison.

    According to PTI’s legal team, the judges suddenly became absent, and the entire judicial complex was empty. When the lawyers approached the third and fourth judges on duty, they refused to sign the release papers.

    Treasury members in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Wednesday condemned the non-release of Bushra Bibi despite her bail.

    Vawda also alleged, “The entire leadership of PTI is compromised, and Khan in jail is actually a good thing for them.”

    Senator Faisal Vawda, known for his sensational political claims and explosive press conferences, while talking on the Aaj News programme, claimed, “Murad Saeed is that parrot that holds two people’s lives – Faiz Hameed and Imran Khan.”

    In a reply to a question, Vawda alleged, “Former ISI Chief Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed will throw Khan under the bus, and Khan will blame Faiz in the coming days.”

    “He [Murad Saeed] has been sandwiched between the two because he’ll get in trouble either way whichever side [Faiz or Khan’s] he chooses,” alleged the former PTI senator.

    Furthermore, Faisal Vawda hinted at a nexus between Gen Faiz and Khan regarding the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif and the PTI’s long march on May 25, 2022.

    Vawda also criticised KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur, saying that he used to say nobody’s father could arrest Imran Khan and now claims the same thing about Khan’s possible military trial.

    Senator Faisal Vawda has accused former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, on Monday of knowing “something big” was about to happen ahead of the October 2022 assassination of journalist Arshad Sharif.

    Vawda laid down the substantial claims in multiple TV shows last night and also released a 42-second audio clip which allegedly recorded Imran Khan talking about something big that was about to happen before Arshad Sharif’s murder.

    Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif was killed in Kenya on October 23, 2022 after he left the country followimg Khan’s government being thrown out through a no-confidence motion in the parliament.

    Vawda also claimed that former ISI Chief Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed might have been involved in the incident.

    “According to my analysis, [Imran] was not aware that Arshad Sharif was going to be murdered. But he was well aware that something big would happen,” said Vawda.

    “But Faiz Hameed was directly involved, and he was well aware of that [plan]. And Murad Saeed was also aware. He was aware of it in August 2022. He even knew that someone outside the country had been hired for the job. His presser on this subject is on the record,” stated the Senator known for making sensational claims.

    In the audio clip, the alleged voice of the PTI founder can be heard saying: “Look, we should not confuse what we’re going to do in the long march and what we’re doing in the protests that we are staging today. Both protests have different dynamics and we have planned very meticulously what we’re going to do [in the long march] and I am not going to announce it in a knee-jerk reaction. I am going to announce it very soon, by the end of the month or maybe on 30th or by next Sunday. But I am not giving any date.”

    Vawda said that anyone can perform a forensic analysis of the audio recording to check its authenticity.

    Supreme Court to hear Suo Moto against Faisal Vawda today

    The Supreme Court, on 17 May, will hear the suo moto case against independent Senator Faisal Vawda for his verbal attack against judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

    The case will be heard by a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Irfan Saadat Khan.

    Earlier, Vawda held a press conference in which he strongly criticised the IHC judges who penned the explosive letter a few weeks back to the Supreme Judicial Council alleging interference of intelligence agencies in judicial affairs.

    Faisal Vawda said that institutions are being attacked.

    “Stop targeting the institutions, enough is enough. If there is any interference by institutions, then provide evidence and we will stand together [against it],” said Vawda.

    IHC also responded to the Senator’s remarks saying that the rules do not dictate that a High Court judge needs to renounce foreign residency or citizenship.

    Independent Senator Faisal Vawda has criticised judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for their letter accusing spy agencies of interfering in judicial matters, saying we should stop targeting institutions.

    “Stop targeting the institutions, enough is enough. If there is any interference by institutions, then provide evidence, and we will stand together [against it],” said the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader during a press conference. 

    Vawda’s remarks came after he filed an application to ask the IHC registrar about revealing the exchange of a letter between former IHC chief justice Athar Minallah and IHC’s Justice Babar Sattar regarding Justice Sattar’s green card.

    The senator wrote a letter, mentioning the social media campaigns against Justice Babar Sattar, accusing him of holding dual nationality and business interests in a private school in the country.

    “A press release was issued that said Justice Sattar is Pakistani, but I didn’t get a reply. CJP Qazi Faez Isa, under Article 19, ordered that every Pakistani can get an answer,” he said.

    The former PTI leader stated that judges should be transparent and away from accusations.

    Vawda stressed that the accusations made by the IHC judges kept mentioning the names of agencies repeatedly. “Give evidence, and we will stand beside you,” he added.

    Zulfiqar Ali Badr, spokesperson for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has said that the Dubai properties of the former Foreign Minister and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari are declared before the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

    The spokesperson said, “The entire world knows that Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Aseefa Bibi grew up in exile.”

    His remarks came as a global team of investigative journalists revealed details of properties owned by the world’s elite in Dubai.

    Defence Minister Khawaja Asif criticised the leaked property records, stating that there was “nothing new in them.”

    He also claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the names of prominent figures like Pervez Musharraf, Shaukat Aziz, Faisal Vawda, and others were also in the Panama leaks, which they didn’t ever deny.

    Similarly, independent senator Faisal Vawda stated on Tuesday that the “Dubai leaks” are part of propaganda, and the timing of the publication of the report is “questionable” as Pakistan is nearing attracting foreign investment.

    Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Faisal Vawda decide to remain single in Senate

    Former caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda announced on Tuesday that they will not join either the government nor opposition sides in the Senate. 

    The Senate Secretariat released a notification about the six independent senators in the senate and their decision to join a party.
    According to the issued notification, two out of the six senators, Kakar and Vawda, decided to not join any side in the Senate.

    Similarly, Senator Mohsin Naqvi, who is also a federal interior minister, was not sure about joining a side in the upper house.

    However, Naqvi’s name was mentioned as a senator on the treasury bench with an additional note of “(Federal Minister, however, not yet opted)”.

    Senator Abdul Qadir joined the government benches after winning the senate polls. The senator was initially part of PTI and then left the party after May 9.

    The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has expressed willingness to let former federal minister Faisal Vawda join the party before the Senate elections take place on April 2.

    “We had invited Vawda to join [MQM-P] in the past […] I pray that he joins the party’s ranks,” MQM-P leader Rauf Siddiqui said while speaking with journalists in Karachi.

    MQM-P head Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who is also a candidate for senate polls, said that the party has fielded a total of eight candidates for the upper house.

    However, Faisal Vawda has confirmed that he is still an “independent” political leader.

    “I’m still independent,” Vawda said during a press conference in Karachi, adding that he would consider joining a political party when it’s in “season,”  as independent candidates are currently trending.

    Vawda expressed doubt about the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) securing power in Islamabad.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif announced plans to take part in the upcoming general elections from Karachi’s NA-242 constituencies, Geo News reported on Friday.

    In the last general elections, Shehbaz Sharif contested from NA-249 constituency of Karachi, but former Pakistan Thereek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda defeated him by a slim margin.

    However, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) announced on December 23 that no agreement had been reached for seat adjustments with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding the NA-242 constituency in the Kemari district.

    The party’s representative dismissed all claims about a seat arrangement with the Shehbaz Sharif-led party.

    The spokesperson added that MQM-P Senior Deputy Convenor Mustafa Kamal is the party’s candidate for the seat.

    Shehbaz Sharif said while addressing a press conference in Karachi that PML-N will resolve the issue of transport in Karachi after winning the election on February 8 next year.
