    Man arrested for harassing female varsity students in Karachi

    A clip of an incident of harassment went viral on September 28, highlighting the issue of rising rate of crimes against women in Karachi.

    In the video, filmed by a student in a van, a man can be seen exposing himself in front of the female students while chasing the van for five minutes near the UBL Sports Complex opposite Lucky One Mall.

    IG Sindh Police Rafat Mukhtar Raja took notice and the case was registered in Joharabad Police Station. It was pledged that the harasser would be made an example of. With the help of CCTV, the police made a raid near Federal B Area’s Block 15 and arrested the man who was identified as Adeel Zafar.

    Police have also recovered a small amount of heroin from him and it is confirmed that another case will be filed against the suspect.

    The total number of charges according to the Pakistan Penal Code are under Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 509 (insulting modesty or causing sexual harassment).

    A 17-year-old male student studying in Grade 12 in Bihar, India, fainted after seeing an examination hall full of 500 girls.

    According to Indian news outlets, the student, Shankar, entered the exam center and started writing. However, Shankar got nervous and fainted. He also suffered a fracture in his arm after falling from his chair.

    Shankar has said that he was nervous because he was the only boy in the examination room while the remaining 500 were female students.

    He said that he felt nervous and fainted at the thought of finishing the exam as the lone male among hundreds of female students.

    Almost 100 female students were asked to remove their undergarments before taking a medical entrance exam in India. The incident took place at an exam centre in Kollam city. Their parents have filed a complaint.

    Their undergarments were found piled up by students after the exams. The students claimed that they had to go through severe psychological trauma before the exam.

    The father of a 17-year-old girl who was taking her first-ever medical exam claims that his daughter is still recovering from the painful experience of having to take the three-hour exam while not wearing a brassiere.

    The Kerala Police on Tuesday, 19 July, arrested five women who were on duty when girl students appearing for the entrance test were asked to remove their undergarments.

    The institute, where the incident took place, has denied involvement, claiming that the frisking and biometric checks were performed by third-party agencies

    Wearing lipstick could cost female students at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Rs 100. 

    According to a notification issued by the university management, “Female students are not allowed to put on lipstick. If seen, they will be fined Rs100 on the spot”.

    After the ban, students took to social media to protest against it.

    As per reports, the notification was limited to the Institute of Education Department and was issued as a part of the department’s “dress code policy”.

    However, the decision was taken back on Monday. A notification regarding this has already been issued and copies of it have been dispersed on-campus.  

    Last year in November, the university had instructed female students to wear abayas on campus.
