    A video of a Pakistani air hostess being detained by police while trying to smuggle cash hidden in her socks has emerged online.

    The incident has raised concerns about security and professionalism among airline staff. There have been numerous issues and blunders involving PIA staff in the recent past, including cases of misconduct and operation failures. But smuggling and such illegal activities are few and far between and instead involve individuals rather than any systemic flaws.

    The uniform the person in the video is wearing resembles that of state carrier PIA.

    22 flights cancelled as passengers decrease in Ramzan

    Due to operational issues of various airlines, 22 flights across the country including eight domestic flights of Quetta have been cancelled today.

    According to PIA spokesperson, as reported by Geo news, the flights had to be cancelled due to not meeting the minimum load of the required number of passengers.

    Aviation reported that today alone, PIA cancelled six flights from Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore to Quetta. PK 310, 311 from Karachi, PK 322, 323 from Lahore and PK from Islamabad to Quetta. K 325, 326 will not be operated today.

    PIA’s Karachi-Gwadar PK-503, 504 flights have also been cancelled.

    Five flights from Karachi to Islamabad, three flights between Karachi to Lahore, two flights of PIA from Islamabad to Sukkur have been cancelled.

    At least 36 people were injured, and 20 were hospitalized Sunday after a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Phoenix to Honolulu hit severe turbulence about 30 minutes before landing.

    Jon Snook, the airline’s chief operating officer, said the airline hasn’t experienced “an incident of this nature in recent history.” The flight was full, carrying 278 passengers and 10 crew members, he said during an afternoon news conference.
    “Medical care was provided to several guests & crewmembers at the airport for minor injuries while some were swiftly transported to local hospitals for further care,” Hawaiian Airlines tweeted.

    The turbulence occurred 15 to 30 minutes before the plane landed in Honolulu, carrying 278 passengers and 10 crew members.

    PIA resumes direct flights from Islamabad to Beijing after 2.5 years

    The direct flights from Beijing to Islamabad were restarted by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Sunday.

    According to ARY News, the first flight, PK-854, departed from the Islamabad airport at 6:45 am and touched down in Beijing at 2:55 pm. In the evening, this flight will make its way back to Islamabad.

    Following a lapse of more than 2.5 years, operations between the two capitals were restarted. In February 2020, this route saw the final PIA flight.

    China banned practically all incoming foreign flights in March 2020 due to concerns that passengers from other countries could be responsible for an outbreak of coronavirus illnesses.

    Since Pakistan is Beijing’s sole all-weather strategic partner of China and the two nations have mutual interests and collaboration in a number of areas, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has finally granted PIA permission to resume operations.

    Additionally, the flight will make it easier for Chinese workers on several CPEC-related projects in Pakistan.

    Two Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flying on the same route and altitude avoided mid-air collision over Iranian airspace near the United Arab Emirates (UAE) border.

    It has been reported that the two carriers came close to mid-air collision due to the alleged negligence of the Iranian Air Traffic Control (ATC). However, the Iranian ATC then cleared the altitude for both airplanes. One was directed to dive while the other was asked to go higher in altitude as per standard practice.

    One airplane was PIA Boeing 777, which was en route from Islamabad to Dubai while the other airplane was Airbus A320, en route from Doha to Peshawar.

    A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) spokesman said that flight (PK-211), a Boeing 777 was maintaining a 35,000-feet altitude when it came close to a Peshawar-bound PIA flight (PK-268) of Airbus A320 from Doha. He said the PK-268 flight was flying at an altitude of 36,000 feet at the time and was cleared to descend to 20,000 feet.

    According to the PIA spokesman, the descent would have come in the flight path of PIA flight of Boeing 777 PK-211.

    Over the negligence matter, the spokesman said that the Pakistan Airlines is writing to the ATC to investigate the matter.

    Saudi Arabia announced that it would open its airspace to all air carriers, allowing for more overflights to and from Israel.

    US President Joe Biden, who is scheduled to visit the kingdom today, applauded the decision.

    According to the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), all airlines that fulfill the country’s overflight requirements are now allowed to use the country’s airspace, in accordance with international agreements that forbid discrimination between civil aircraft.

    As per a statement from GACA, the choice will complement the efforts aimed at consolidating the kingdom’s position as a global hub connecting three continents and to enhance international air connectivity. Some flights to and from Israel had longer flight times and used more fuel as a result of flying over Saudi Arabia.

    US President Joe Biden praised the choice, according to Jake Sullivan, the White House’s national security adviser. The security and prosperity of the United States and the American people, as well as the security and prosperity of Israel, are dependent on a more integrated, stable, and secure Middle East region, according to Sullivan.

    A source had earlier told Reuters that Saudi Arabia would soon allow Israeli airlines unrestricted overflight access and permit direct charter flights from Israel for Muslims taking part in the yearly hajj pilgrimage in Makkah.

    Saudi Arabia rejects Israel’s legitimacy and has made no mention of potential bilateral developments during Biden’s visit. Israel has likewise avoided making these connections.

    KSA had agreed in 2020 to permit flights between Israel and the United Arab Emirates to pass through its territory, despite the lack of official relations.

    For the first time in its history, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) would charge Hajj pilgrims flying on a private programme in US dollars.

    Airfares for pilgrims from the Southern and Northern regions are expected to stay in the $810 to $1,100 and $860 to $1,150 ranges, respectively.

    As tickets are also purchased abroad, the airline stated that fares in dollars would minimise the disparity. The PIA, on the other hand, would charge a fixed fee of Rs181,000 for return tickets for pilgrims travelling under the government scheme.

    During the Hajj season, the airline expects to transport roughly 14,000 government-sponsored pilgrims and around 16,000 private pilgrims. Pakistan has an 81,000 pilgrim quota, with the government typically taking 60 per cent of the quota and allocating the rest to private operators.

    According to sources, the government has received few applications this year and would only accept 37,000 pilgrims through the official plan, with the remainder of the quota going to private operators.

    Flights from Pakistan to Madinah and Jeddah for the Hajj were originally scheduled to run from May 31 to July 3. The Hajj has been postponed for a week because the government has yet to announce its Hajj strategy. From July 14 to August 13, the post-Hajj surgery would take place.

    The strength of people who go through government programmes or commercial operators is determined by the government’s Hajj strategy. It also establishes pilgrim quotas for airlines and private Hajj operators from each city.

    Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will begin Hajj operations, with 297 flights to Jeddah and Madinah departing from eight cities from May 31.

    A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafique, he was briefed by the national flag-carrier’s administration on important matters.

    According to the federal minister, the state airline will start Hajj operations on May 31 as planned, with flights to Jeddah and Madinah departing from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, Peshawar, and Quetta.

    The national flag-carrier’s administration said that 297 flights will operate from May 31 to August 31.

    The leadership of the state airline announced the addition of four Airbus 320 aircraft to its fleet. One plane arrived in Pakistan last week and is currently being processed by Pakistan Customs and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), while a second plane is expected to arrive by the end of the month.

    Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has prohibited its pilots and cabin staff members from fasting during the holy month of Ramzan.

    As per a recent safety notice released by the national flag carrier, fasting is one of the key factors behind diminished human performance.

    The decision is part of the PIA’s in-flight safety measures, which were recently announced by Aamir Bashir, the PIA’s General Manager (GM) of Flight Services.

    In order to meet the physical and psychological demands of flying, a healthy diet is crucial for pilots. Human errors that result in plane crashes can be minimized by focusing on nutrition due to its strong connection with flying performance.

    On-duty pilots and flying crew members should consider several aspects such as tiredness, performance degradation, and refrain from fasting throughout Ramadan, keeping in view the safety of the innocent lives (passengers and other staff).

    In addition to this, the administration has also allowed pilots and cabin crew members to apply for leave who do not wish to give up fasting during the month of Ramadan.

    Lastly, it also noted that non-compliance with the directive could result in the suspension or cancellation of the flying crew’s licenses.

    Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced special flights to bring back Pakistani students, “stranded in Ukraine.” PIA has scheduled two special flights that will leave tomorrow for Poland.

    “In coordination with FollowPakistan Embassy in Ukraine, PIA has planned repatriation FLTs for Pak Students stranded in Ukraine, the first 2 FLTs wud leave tomorrow for Poland from where they will be repatriated to safety & united with their families. PIA always steps forward when the nation demands,” PIA wrote in a tweet.

    The Pakistan Embassy in Ukraine has managed to evacuate at least 70 students from Kharkiv city. Kharkiv city is one of the main battle grounds between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
