According to outage tracker Downdetector, tens of thousands of users reported being unable to access several Google services on Monday night.

Google Maps has been having issues since 9:36 PM EDT (0136 GMT), according to a tweet from Downdetector.

More than 40,000 users reported problems using Google’s services, primarily the maps and search engine, including in New York City and Denver, Colorado.

A small number of customers continued to report issues using Google’s cloud and calendar services after the outage had been reported for about two hours, according to Downdetector.

“We’re aware of a software update issue that occurred late this afternoon Pacific Time and briefly affected availability of Google Search and Maps, and we apologize for the inconvenience,” a Google spokesperson said.

“We worked to quickly address the issue and our services are now back online.”

Some individuals who attempted to use Google tweeted screenshots of the ‘500 error’ notice on Twitter, which said the server had “encountered an error and could not complete your request.”

Man almost marries wrong woman after Google Maps misguides him

A man almost married the wrong woman after Google Maps mislead him to the wrong venue in Indonesia.

According to details, two ceremonies, a wedding and an engagement were held in the same village on Sunday.

Ulfa, 27, who was getting engaged was oblivious to the fact that the wrong man had entered her house when she was being attended to by the make-up artist. Chaos ensued when both parties realised that there was a mix-up.

Speaking about the incident, Ulfa said: “I was shocked when I saw the man’s group as I did not know any of them.” She said that her fiancé and his relatives got late as they stopped on the way to find a toilet.

She added that her fiancé is from Kendal and the man who arrived at her engagement ceremony was from Pemalang.

“But my family welcomed them and they proceeded to exchange gifts,” Ulfa told Indonesian news portal Tribunnews.

When a member from the man’s side realised that they had arrived at the wrong location, they apologised for their mistake before leaving the venue.

Ulfa’s family helped the man and his family reach the right venue.

Google Maps get an Indian arrested in Pakistan

Two Indian nationals were arrested by the Pakistani police for illegally entering the country last week.

Prashant Maidam, a software engineer from Hyderabad, and Durmi Lal, a farmer from Madhya Pradesh, were arrested in the Cholistan desert area in Bahawalpur on November 14th as per an FIR.

The Bahawalpur police registered an FIR against them under the Pakistan (Control of Entry) Act.

They had crossed the border without any identification papers and proper documents, such as a valid visa and passport, police sources told The Hindu.

Police sources said Prashant told them that he was in love with a woman in Turkey and was going there through Pakistan and Afghanistan. Prashant was reportedly on foot and following Google Maps route.

Bahawalpur Judicial Magistrate Yazman asked the local police to travel to Multan and hand over the two Indians to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Bahawalpur police sources said that the two Indian nationals were thoroughly investigated and were sent back from Multan as the FIA doesn’t think this case falls under its jurisdiction.

The two are now back in the custody of the Bahawalpur police.

“Prashant is lucky he was arrested here. We don’t know what would have happened if he had gone to Afghanistan via Pakistan,” said one police officer.

Police sources said the two will most likely be repatriated after due process is followed. The Indian High Commission will have to get in touch with the police and initiate the process of repatriation.
