    Senior journalist Absar Alam, while talking on Samaa news, warned of increasing political instability and the possibility of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after the KP Assembly issued a resolution on September 10, demanding court marital of army officers allegedly involved in politics.

    The resolution demanded that state institutions must remain within their constitutional domain while calling their actions against elected leaders ‘high treason.’

    Absar Alam noted that the political situation is quite concerning. He also stated that a parliamentary party meeting occurred at CM KP’s house in which Ali Amin Gandapur assured provincial ministers that he stands by every word he spoke at the recent PTI’s rally on September 8.

    Absar stated that the ministers assure the CM of their support and vowed that much harsher language would used in future political rallies.

    “This kind of resolution is unprecedented and historically, we have not seen such harsh resolutions. If the situation does not improve then I think that the federal government might consider imposing Governor’s rule in KP,” warned Absar Alam.

    Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) and its coalition government ally, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), have agreed to change the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Khan Tesori.

    According to a Geo News source, the incumbent Sindh governor could be replaced by PML-N Sindh president and former head of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Bashir Memon.

    While responding to the report, MQM denied that the Governor will be changed.

    A spokesperson of MQM said, ‘’The Centre has not contacted us yet in this regard’.”

    PPP Sindh General Secretary Waqar Mehdi said, ‘’Kamran Tessori better go on leave until the PMLN chooses the new Governor of Sindh’’.

    In April this year, sources made similar claims that former Sindh caretaker chief minister Justice (retired) Maqbool Baqar could be appointed governor of Sindh.

    Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori was recently seen in a video talking about, of all the things, his new haircut. The background music and his facial expressions might seem a bit serious but he flaunts his hair cut and style with panache while recommending Shoaib Salon.

    It made us wonder, who Is SHOAIB?

    His Facebook page states that he is a “renowned Stylist & Hair Dresser” who is based in Karachi and has “experience of 12 years.” I rather enjoyed his Instagram profile bio more which says, “Playing with fire and scissors.”

    Shoaib’s timeline is filled with pictures of Pakistani celebrities, his salon and him at work for Express News’s program transmission but what we found fascinating was this BTS video of Kamran Tessori getting ready.

    SBP to start issuing new banknotes with Governor Jameel Ahmad’s signature from today

    The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will start issuing new banknotes on December 29, 2022.

    The new SBP Banking Services Corporation banknotes will include the signature of the new governor, Jameel Ahmad.

    Banknotes containing the signatures of his predecessors will also remain legal tender.

    Earlier, the SBP stated that banknotes of the old design, large-sized banknotes with denominations of Rs10, Rs50, Rs100, and Rs1,000 could be exchanged from the SBP till December 31, 2022.

    The federal government extended the deadline for exchanging old designed large-size banknotes in Notification F.No.2(1)IF-III/2010 until December 23, 2021.

    In a statement, State Bank stated that December 31, 2022, was the “last and final deadline for exchange of such banknotes, upon expiry of which, these banknotes shall no longer be exchangeable from the counters of the SBP Banking Services Corporation (BSC) and thus will lose their value.”

    Govt appoints Jameel Ahmad as Governor SBP for 5 years

    According to a Finance Division announcement on Friday, the government has appointed Jameel Ahmad as Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for a tenure of five years, effective immediately.

    “In exercise of powers conferred under Section 11A (1) read with Section 14(1) of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Act 1956 (Amended 2022), Jameel Ahmad is appointed as Governor State Bank of Pakistan for a term of five (5) years with the approval of the President of Pakistan, upon the recommendation of Federal Government, with immediate effect,” read the notification.

    Jameel Ahmad was the deputy governor of the central bank and was reappointed by the government on October 25, 2018, for a three-year term. From April 11, 2017, to October 15, 2018, he also held the position of Deputy Governor (Banking & FMRM).

    “Jameel Ahmad has an illustrious career as an accomplished central banker span over 30 years at various senior positions at the State Bank of Pakistan and the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA),” read information available on the SBP website.

    Mr Jameel Ahmad did his MBA from University of Punjab at Lahore and is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost & Management Accountants of Pakistan (FCMA), an Associate Member of the Institute of Bankers Pakistan and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Corporate Secretaries of Pakistan (FCIS).

    The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led government has decided to appoint their party ally Muttahida Qaumi Move­ment-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) senior leader Nasreen Jalil as the governor of Sindh.

    If Jalil becomes the next governor, she would be the second female governor in the province’s history after the first Prime Minister (PM) Liaquat Ali Khan’s wife Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan who served in the 1970s.

    The office of the Sindh governor fell vacant on April 12 when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leader Imran Ismail resigned, hours before PM Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the premier of Pakistan.

    Nasreen Jalil was born in Lahore but she spent most of her time in Karachi. In her childhood, she lived in London. She went to Paris for her education. She joined MQM and started her political career in Karachi. She served as a senator two times. Nasreen Jalil had been elected as chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights in 1994 and 2012.

    Following the news, the former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry took to Twitter, saying the “crime minister” has proposed the name of Nasreen Jalil as Sindh governor. He claimed that Jalil had written a letter to the Indian high commissioner on June 18, 2015, and sought ‘help’ against Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies.

    Similarly, PTI’s Imran Ismail and former Sindh governor said that it appears that in order to become part of the present government it has become ‘imperative’ that one should be on bail or an “expert of vicious attacks” on security institutions.

    Responding to Ismail’s tweet, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Senator Faisal Subzwari cleared that the letter was written to all diplomats.

    He admitted that it was the party office’s mistake that the name of the Indian diplomat was not excluded from the list of diplomats. However, this letter surfaced in 2015 and its contents were before everyone.

    Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) delegation had a meeting with Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Hamza Shehbaz. Power-sharing issues were discussed between CM Hamza and the PPP delegation, reports Geo News.

    As per reports, it is being said that the PPP will give up the constitutional posts of Punjab and has decided not to take up the post of Governor. The PPP has also sought three ministries, more than two special assistants, and a chairmanship of a standing committee in Punjab. Besides, the PPP has also sought the posts of two parliamentary secretaries in Punjab.

    Omer Sarfraz Cheema, the governor of Punjab, has decided not to swear in the newly-formed provincial cabinet. According to him, the resignation of Usman Buzdar is illegal.
    

    “Yesterday, a crime was committed at Governor House. My official residence was held under siege to hold the illegal oath-taking ceremony of a ‘fake’ chief minister,” said Cheema, while addressing a press conference.
    

    In his statement he repeated that Buzdar’s resignation was addressed to the Prime Minister, not the governor, adding that the former governor Sarwar could not accept a resignation which was not addressed to him, he added.
    

    “The oath-taking of Hamza Shahbaz was illegal after I rejected the resignation of Usman Buzdar on legal grounds.”

    In a recent interview, the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Dr. Reza Baqir expressed concern over the continuous deterioration in foreign exchange reserves but remained optimistic that a renewal of loans will be witnessed in the near future, which, coupled with SBP’s initiatives, will enhance market confidence.
    

    He claimed that the decline in reserves is “clearly alarming, but we are convinced that the central bank’s initiatives will prevent further deterioration”.
    

    According to data issued by the central bank on April 7, the reserves massively declined by $728 million to $11.32 billion as of April 1.
    

    The decline, according to SBP, is primarily attributable to debt repayment and government payments linked to the settling of an arbitration judgment.
    

    In addition to this, the currency even hit new lows in the week, forcing the SBP to intervene by boosting the policy rate, declaring a 100 per cent cash margin on 177 commodities with instant effect, and hiking the markup percentage by 2.5 per cent for borrowing under the Export Finance Scheme (EFS).
    

    In response to the Monetary Policy Committee’s (MPC) recent rate hike, Baqir stated that the move was made to tackle growing inflation and lessen external pressures. “The foreign exchange market has been under a lot of pressure for more than a month. A number of factors contributed to it: first, there was political uncertainty; second, our reserves were drained due to debt payments”.
    

    Consequently, the Pakistani rupee ended its devaluation run on April 8, and the KSE-100 Index witnessed positive sentiment, ending the day with an impressive gain of 658 points.
    

    The SBP Governor also discussed the skyrocketing petrol prices, which remain elevated because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, adding more pressure on the local currency.
    

    The central bank made a determined decision after analyzing the statistics to lower inflation, improve foreign exchange reserves, and boost business confidence.
