Greta Thunberg arrested at Pro-Palestinian demo in Denmark

Climate activist Greta Thunberg and several others were arrested Wednesday after occupying a University of Copenhagen building to call for an academic boycott of Israeli universities, Danish media reported.

Images on the daily Ekstra Bladet website showed the 21-year-old activist, wearing a black-and-white keffiyeh shawl draped over her shoulders, being escorted out of a campus building by police.

Thunberg herself shared images on Instagram of riot police entering a building where the group “Students against the Occupation” were staging a protest.

“I can’t confirm the names of those arrested, but six people have been arrested in connection with the demonstration,” a Copenhagen police spokesman told AFP.

Three of them “are suspected of forcing their way into the building and blocking the entrance”, he said.

The six were released several hours later, the spokesman told AFP, and video footage published by Ekstra Bladet showed Thunberg walking out of the police station.

Students against the Occupation said in an Instagram statement that “while the situation in Palestine only gets worse, the University of Copenhagen continues cooperation with academic institutions in Israel”.

“We are occupying” the university’s “central administration with one demand: academic boycott now.”

Pro-Palestinian protesters have set up encampments at universities around the United States and Europe since last spring to protest against Israel’s bombardment of Gaza and occupation of Palestinian territories.

Greta Thunberg shows up at protest to denounce Israel’s participation in Eurovision

Continuing with her support for the Palestinian cause, climate activist Greta Thunberg joined thousands of demonstrators marching through the streets of Malmo in Sweden, on Thursday, spamming Israel’s participation in Eurovision.

This year’s Eurovision song contest began on Tuesday, in the southern Swedish city of Malmo. The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, but the war in Gaza is ‘looming’ over the festivities.

“I am a Eurovision fan and it breaks my heart but I’m boycotting. I can’t have fun knowing that Israel is there participating when all those kids are dying. I think it’s just wrong” 30-year-old protester Hilda (who did not want to provide her surname), told members of the press. Israel’s military offensive has killed at least 34,904 people in Gaza, mostly women and children.

In 2022, Russia’s state broadcaster was excluded from the European Broadcasting Union (which oversees Eurovision), in the wake of the war in Ukraine. “I feel like if they can remove Russia why can they not do it to Israel?” 29-year-old, Margo Mustafa said in an exchange with reporters’.
“The people are here for Eurovision trying to celebrate. There’s nothing to celebrate. It’s an ongoing war” she added.

An excess of 5,000 people gathered on Thursday afternoon, in Malmo’s main square, according to an estimate. Signs in the crowd read: “Liberate Palestine”, “EUR legitimises genocide” and “colonialism cannot be washed in pink.”

Israel’s entrant, “Hurricane” by singer Eden Golan, is set to compete in Thursday’s semi-final. It has already been partially re-written and given a new title, after Eurovision organisers deemed the original version to be ‘too political’.

Protester Cecilia Brudell, told the press “At six and nine, my children are now at an age where they want to watch Eurovision but this year we are completely boycotting it”.

Since the new year, numerous petitions have demanded Israel’s exclusion from the 68th edition of the annual music competition. At the end of March, contestants from nine countries, including Swiss favourite Nemo, called for a ‘lasting ceasefire’.

  • Youths having to grow up ‘too quickly’ amid climate fears, says Greta Thunberg

Youths having to grow up ‘too quickly’ amid climate fears, says Greta Thunberg

Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg said Monday that young people like her have had to grow up “too quickly” to resolve a climate crisis caused by previous generations.

Denouncing inaction by politicians on climate change, Thunberg made her remarks just days ahead of the fifth anniversary of a global youth climate protest that drew over a million participants.

On Monday, she sat on the steps of Sweden’s parliament, blocking the main entrance in a protest with around 10 other youth activists, holding a banner reading “Climate Justice Now”.

“We are way too many young people who have had to grow up in the climate movement and who have had to grow up way too quickly, to take the responsibility to try to clean up after the older generations,” Thunberg told AFP.

“The Swedish government as well as all other governments in the world are not treating the climate crisis like a crisis at all.”

“They are still letting short-term economic profits be prioritised over human lives and the planet,” she said, adding that she and her fellow activists “feel a bit like broken records, we have been repeating the same message over and over again”.

News agency TT reported that politicians were still able to enter parliament through side entrances.

When Thunberg started sitting outside the Swedish parliament in August 2018 with her “School Strike for the Climate” sign, she was an anonymous teenager in a world she saw as dying in silence.

Five years later, Thunberg’s “Fridays for Future” movement and its subsequent global marches had had a global impact, political science researcher Joost de Moor told AFP in October.

“It has raised awareness for the issue,” he said.

It has also “contributed to the increased legitimacy of pro-climate policy-making, which has in turn made it easier for willing politicians to act on the issue”, he said, citing as an example Frans Timmermans, the former EU climate commissioner responsible for the Green Deal currently being debated in the bloc.

Despite this, and “as Greta Thunberg has said herself many times… climate policy-making continues to fall far behind what climate scientists say is necessary”, de Moor said.

A report by the European Environment Agency (EEA) on Monday warned of “catastrophic” consequences if Europe failed to take urgent action to adapt to risks posed by climate change.

Renowned climate justice activist Greta Thunberg recently took to Instagram and posted a recaptcha privacy which needs the user to testify that they stand with Palestine to be recognised as human.

True to her no-holds-barred attitude, she captioned the image, “Verify that you’re a human”.

Greta is an advocate for human rights along with the climate justice campaign. Since Israel started genocide in the Gaza Strip, Thunberg has voiced her support for Palestine multiple times.

The cause is now regularly a part of her protests and strikes.

  • ‘Go Greta’; Bilawal talks about climate change, Imran’s arrest and IMF on Daily Show

‘Go Greta’; Bilawal talks about climate change, Imran’s arrest and IMF on Daily Show

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari talked about a host of issues including climate justice, former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s possible arrest and the economic crisis on The Daily Show with Kal Penn.

When asked about political unrest owing to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s possible arrest, Bilawal said that the former Premier doesn’t believe the country’s laws apply to him.

“I would never want any politician in my country or any country to go to jail for political reasons. In Khan’s case, he’s under the threat of arrest because of his ego,” the Foreign Minister said. He slammed Imran Khan for the “complete mockery of the judicial system in Pakistan, of rule of law, of the Constitution in Pakistan”.

Kal Penn asked about tax reform and negotiations with the IMF, to which Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari agreed that the poor were burdened beyond their capacity. “There’s an outsized burden on the bottom of the pyramid,” he said, adding that the IMF should take that into consideration.

Speaking at length about the climate crisis, Bilawal admitted that he initially thought that switching to solar and wind power would be enough. “I was not the most hyper of climate activist’s,” Bilawal said, stating that his worldview changed overnight after the catastrophic floods of 2022. ” And now, yeah, go Greta,” he said, eliciting applause and laughter from the audience with the remark about Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

  • Greta Thunberg detained in Germany over coal mine protest

Greta Thunberg detained in Germany over coal mine protest

Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg was detained by the German police on Tuesday for participating in a coal mine protest in a village in Lutzerath.
Thunberg was participating in the protest to stop authorities from demolishing the village for the coal mine’s expansion.
Police representative Christof Huls while speaking to CNN, said that Thunberg was part of a large group of protesters who had broken through the police barrier and had settled around a coal pit. Huls further elaborated that police were concerned that the mass of protesters could set the ground in motion after it had been softened by rainfall in the last few days, leading to the detention of the protestors.

‘We knew who she was, but she did not get VIP treatment,’ Huls said.

Police also said that the activists detained would be released later in the day.

Thunberg had joined thousands of climate activists in Germany against the demolishing of a village in order to make way for the Garzweiler lignite coal mine, which is owned by the European multi-national corporation RWE. Climate activists had argued that the expansion of the coal mine will increase planet-warming emissions and violate the Paris Climate Agreement’s promise to bring the global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
Thunberg had addressed the activists on Saturday, saying that their fight to save the planet was not over as long as people keep prioritizing short term economic growth and corporate greed.
“We need to stop the current destruction of our planet and sacrificing people to benefit the short-term economic growth and corporate greed,” she said.

Greta Thunberg wins the internet with befitting clap back to incel king Andrew Tate

When will grown men on the internet stop coming after young girls and attempting to silence them? Climate change activist Greta Thunberg is one of the most vocal voices against climate change. The young girl has been a prime target for insecure men who send her trolling messages.

This time though, Thumberg has clapped back and done so with a thunderous bang.

Dirt bag Andrew Tate tried to harass Greta by tagging her in a post where he boasted about the number of cars he had and the emissions they would release.
Greta had a befitting reply to him. The tweet has already gained 2.2 million likes.

After this amazing exchange, the top trends on Pakistani Twitter included #smalldickenergy, Andrew Tate and Take An L.

Sometime later, Andrew Tate responded with a video clip where he accused Greta of being involved in the matrix, and told his followers that she is trying to get people to convince their government to tax them into poverty.

Still a weak crybaby, but that’s what you get for harassing powerful girls like Greta.

  • Environmental activist Greta Thunberg mocks world leaders for being ‘blah, blah, blah’ on climate action

Environmental activist Greta Thunberg mocks world leaders for being ‘blah, blah, blah’ on climate action

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg mocked and criticised world leaders — including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister (PM) Boris Johnson — over their promises to address the climate emergency, dismissing them as “blah, blah, blah”.

While addressing the Youth4Climate summit in Milan, she said, “When I say climate change, what do you think of? I think jobs. Green jobs. Green jobs,” referring to Biden’s speeches on the climate crisis.

Referring to a speech by French President Emmanuel Macron, she said, “We must find a smooth transition towards a low carbon economy. There is no Planet B. There is no Planet Blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.”

She quoted statements by Boris Johnson: “This is not some expensive, politically correct, green act of bunny hugging”, and PM Narendra Modi’s: “Fighting climate change calls for innovation, cooperation and willpower” but said that science did not lie.

“Build back better. Blah, blah, blah. Green economy. Blah blah blah. Net zero by 2050. Blah, blah, blah. This is all we hear from our so-called leaders. Words that sound great but so far have not led to action. Our hopes and ambitions drown in their empty promises,” she added.

Climate justice activist Vanessa Nakate from Uganda, Thunberg and hundreds of other young people from across the world attended the summit. The event was held two days before dozens of ministers gather in Milan for a meeting before the COP26 climate talks in Glasgow at the end of October, reports CNN.

Greta is an 18-year-old young environmental activist who became famous in 2018 when she skipped school for a strike against climate change.

  • ‘Indian media is run by jokers’: Fawad reacts to absurd claims

‘Indian media is run by jokers’: Fawad reacts to absurd claims

In the wake of months-long protests by the farmers, the Indian media has accused Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry of running an international disinformation campaign against India along with Khalistani leader Bhajan Singh Bhinder (also know as Iqbal Chaudhry) and journalist Pieter Friedrich.

Friedrich became part of the investigation after his name was mentioned in the toolkit that Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg tweeted on February 4.

The ‘toolkit’, which had the detailed plan of action for amplifying farmers’ protests and listed a number of social media handles to be followed, is now being probed by Delhi Police in connection with the tractor rally violence on Republic Day. The police had also announced to book Thunberg for conspiring against India.

But now, the Indian police think that Fawad is the mastermind of this campaign while Friedrich, a critic of the Indian government, is the face of the campaign.

According to News18, Bhajan Singh Bhinder is the “uncle of Fawad” and the mastermind of the slander campaign against India. It alleged that Fawad is helping the Sikh activists to run a campaign against India.

The PTI minister, however, tweeted the news clip on his social media account, calling the claims “absurd”.

Fawad said India doesn’t need foreign actors to sabotage its image, as its prime minister Narendra Modi and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are enough to destroy India’s global standing.

On Sunday, Delhi police arrested a young climate activist arrested over a farmers’ protest “toolkit” also shared by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. Delhi police confirmed the arrest of Disha Ravi, who is in her early 20s, in a tweet on Sunday that accused her of being a “key conspirator in (the) document’s formulation & dissemination.”
